The calendar doesn’t slow down as we turn the page to August. Another full week of car and motorcycle events is on tap to kick off the first full week of the month, with Saturday once again featuring an outstanding lineup of shows.

One of the weekend’s marquee events is Vettes, Rods, & Classics, long considered one of Central Ohio’s premier charity car shows. This year the show moves to a new date and a new venue, the Gahanna Tech Center, replacing its longtime home at Creekside in Gahanna.

Saturday’s schedule is loaded with other can’t-miss events as well, including Hot Summer Nights in Bellefontaine, Volksfest 35The Classic Car Show in Commercial Point, and the rescheduled Ye Olde Mill Rod Run & Picnic in Utica. Those are just a few of the many opportunities to get out, enjoy the weather, and spend the day surrounded by great cars, motorcycles, and fellow enthusiasts.

UPDATE: After Mother Nature did a complete 180 from the beautiful weather we enjoyed the previous weekend, several car shows were forced to reschedule. A number of those events have been moved to this coming Saturday and Sunday, making an already packed weekend schedule even busier.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It was another big Thursday evening at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City. Thanks in part to the participation of several Corvette clubs, 538 vehicles filled the grounds.

While that was down slightly from the record-setting 561 vehicles the previous week, another milestone was reached with 41 first-time participants attending the cruise-in.

This video montage, created from the combined photos of Jeff Shankle, Bryan Mauger, Tom Lawrence, and yours truly, captures the energy, excitement, and outstanding rides that made Thursday’s cruise-in another memorable evening.

Urbana Knights of Columbus Car Show:

The Urbana Knights of Columbus hosted its 23rd Annual Car Show on Friday evening at St. Mary Catholic Church in Urbana. This year’s show attracted 88 registered vehicles. Tom Lawrence attended the show and shared photos of most of the vehicles on display.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

To say the Der Dutchman Cruise-In was a little on the hot side Thursday evening would be an understatement. The best way to enjoy the evening was to find a shady tree to park under and pretty much stay put—which is exactly what I did.

Like the previous week, attendance started out slow but picked up around 6:00 p.m. as temperatures gradually became a little more tolerable. Attendance peaked at 162 cars with 19 of those being first timers.

Even with the summer heat, plenty of enthusiasts still came out to enjoy an evening of great cars and good company at Der Dutchman.

Our good friend, Jeff Shankle, made an appearance after his recent ordeal involving a creek and a zero-turn mower. Fortunately, he’s doing well enough to be back at a cruise-in. Here are some combined photos from Jeff and me. Jeff’s phone suffered some water damage during the accident, so he’ll be getting a new one soon.

American Legion Post #144 Independence Day Car Show:

What started out as your typical C-Town Cruisers Fourth of July car show at the American Legion Canteen Post #144 on South High Street in Columbus turned into quite an event around 1:00 p.m.

Many in attendance heard what sounded like a single firework around 12:45 p.m. At the time, most of us thought little of it. A short time later, Columbus police cruisers began pouring into the area one after another in response to reports of a shooting on South High Street and Cotton Mill Street.

According to Columbus police, officers had responded to a report of a woman being attacked by a man. When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and opened fire on officers. Police returned fire before the suspect fled into a nearby wooded area, prompting Columbus police and SWAT officers to establish a secure perimeter around the neighborhood, including the American Legion grounds, while they searched for the armed suspect.

Police later identified the suspect as 41-year-old Michael Magyar, also known as “Machete Mike,” and warned the public that he was considered armed and dangerous. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to investigate the officer-involved shooting.

As a precaution, the car show ended shortly after 2:30 p.m. so law enforcement could secure the area and continue their search. Needless to say, it made for a Fourth of July car show that most of us in attendance won’t soon forget.

As for the show itself, there were 44 vehicles in attendance. Awards were presented for the Top 50, along with special awards for Best Bike, Most Patriotic, Most Potential/Rat Rod, Best Truck, and Best of Show.

American Legion members once again offered a buffet lunch consisting of hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, pasta salad, and dessert in exchange for a donation to help cover the cost of the meal.

The Best Bike Award went to Silly Willy and his 2005 Honda Shadow 600 Deluxe.

Steve Anderson’s 1995 Chevy G-20 received the Best Truck Award.

Mike Woods’ 1966 Ford F-100 earned the Most Potential/Rat Rod Award.

Kevin Kelly’s 1975 International Harvester loadstar took home the Most Patriotic Award.

Finally, Doug Mullen’s 1934 Ford Model 40 received the Best of Show honors.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio, continues to impress, and this week was no exception. A total of 425 vehicles rolled into the lot, filling the summer evening with horsepower, chrome, and camaraderie.

There was even a touch of royalty to the evening’s festivities.

Each week brings something different, and this time, the spotlight was on a Mustang race car with an LS3 small block motor — a bold and unexpected powertrain swap that had enthusiasts gathering for a closer look.

The lot was filled with a stunning variety of hot rods, muscle cars, classics, and custom builds. Here are just a few more of the vehicles that made the scene:

American Legion Canteen Post #144 Independence Day Car Show:

Shaun “Big Dawg” Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers hosted their annual Independence Day Car Show on Friday at the American Legion Canteen Post #144 in Columbus, Ohio.

Despite the summer heat, 59 vehicles were registered for the show, with participants spreading out across the grounds in search of shade. The event featured door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and a festive Independence Day buffet. The buffet, held inside the American Legion Post, was donation-based and well-received by attendees.

As the show wrapped up, awards were handed out to the Top 40 vehicles, along with special honors for Most Patriotic and Best of Show.

Most Patriotic Award: Kevin Johna took home the honors with his beautifully airbrushed 2015 Chevy Camaro.

Best of Show: The coveted award went to Judy and Jack for their stunning 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Finishing up, here are the rest of the cars that showed up, even with the heat cranked up.

Firecracker Car, Truck, and Bike Show:

The Champaign Cruisers hosted their 27th Annual 4th of July Firecracker Car, Truck, and Bike Show at Skelley Lumber Company in Urbana, Ohio.

This long-running show keeps bringing in cars from all over the region—southwestern and western Ohio, eastern Indiana, and, of course, Central Ohio. It’s always fun to see vehicles you don’t normally catch at local shows, including rare builds and unique restorations from outside the immediate area.

Participants and spectators enjoyed a wide variety of activities throughout the day, including door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, a driver’s pot, and a great selection of food trucks.

This year’s show saw an impressive turnout, with over 600 registered vehicles and a total of 733 in attendance—making it one of the largest, if not the largest, in the event’s history.

Jeff Shankle and Jim Sradega were kind enough to share their photos from the show—Jeff alone snapped over 800 photos! Here’s a video slideshow highlighting many of the awesome cars that turned out for the event.

The judges selected Steve Bechtel’s beautifully restored, all-steel 1941 Lincoln Zephyr as this year’s Best of Show. Notably, the all-steel body was a rare feature for cars built during that era, making this Lincoln Zephyr an exceptional and historically significant vehicle.

NEWS AND NOTES

Verena at Hilliard Car Show:

The Verena at Hilliard Independent Senior Living Center held its annual car show on Thursday, and the residents had a great time checking out the classic rides.

Trophies were handed out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, based on votes from the residents.

Dr. Ron Rogers took home 2nd place with his 1950 Ford Pickup.

Jim McGruder’s Chevy Corvette Grand Sport came in 3rd place.

The big winner of the day was Jeff Shankle, whose 1954 Ford Crestline Victoria got the most votes and took 1st place.

After the show, everyone who participated enjoyed dinner in the dining room—and topped it all off with milkshakes from Swensons Drive-In.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The threat of rain kept attendance down to 93 cars this week at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio.

Richwood Bank Coffee & Cars Cruise-In:

More than 20 cars rolled in for Saturday morning’s Coffee & Cars Cruise-In at Richwood Bank in Delaware, Ohio — and not a single one left without a little caffeine buzz.

Greg Nobis brought his Plymouth Belvedere, dressed up to look just like Christine from the movie — thankfully, this one didn’t try to run anyone over in the parking lot.

The coffee bar served up flavored elixirs to keep everyone awake and satisfy their morning sweet tooth.

This month’s raffle prizes included car care products, a battery charger, and — for those who like their refreshment a little stronger — a fifth of Henry McKenna bourbon whiskey.

Ed Oswald walked away with the car care goodies, while Gary Wise scored the bourbon and probably a few new best friends.

Richwood Bank will be taking a pit stop in July, but the Coffee & Cars Cruise-In will be back on August 2, 2025.

Here are some of the cars that attended the open house.

Empty Pocket Cruisers Trunk or Treat:

The Empty Pocket Cruisers Car Club hosted its 11th annual Trunk or Treat Show at the Hilliard Presbyterian Church on Saturday.

It's always a favorite show of mine and maybe one of the best trunk-or-treat shows in Central Ohio. From people decorating their cars to wearing costumes to giving out candy, the show always seems to get everyone who attends into the Halloween spirit.

Saturday's attendance reached 120 cars.

As it does every year, the Empty Pockets Cruisers had awards for best costumes, the "Favorite" 40 cars, Best Decorated Car, DJ's Pick, Sponsors's Choice, and Club Pick.

The Empty Pocket's Club Pick this year went to Bob Kirst and his 1995 Camaro. Bob's Camaro was a custom build for the 1995 SEMA Show.

The Sponsor's Choice went to Jim and Kathy Loftus and their 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Here are more cars from the show:

The Point on Main (All About The Trophy) Car Show:

Shaun "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers hosted its annual "All About The Trophy" Car Show on Saturday at the Point on Main Sports Bar & Grill.

This is the only show The C-Town Cruisers host during the season that there is no judging. Anyone who registers can pick out their trophy. If you have some trophies you no longer want, the C-Town Cruisers will gladly take them off your hands.

This is also an appreciation show with Cruiser and Co-Cruiser of the Year awards and Just Because.

About 75 cars stopped by on Saturday. 30 or so stuck around to the very end.

Just wanted to make everyone aware that there is major construction and I mean MAJOR CONSTRUCTION going on at the Ohio Expo Center. A YouTuber by the name of Automotive Adventures With Austin posted a video yesterday of the construction going on at the Expo Center. If you're bringing a car to the Goodguys be prepared for a lot of concrete blocks, fencing, and dust. It could be a big mess if it rains this weekend!

NEWS AND NOTES

Champaign Cruisers Firecracker Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

Originally, there were two events in the area scheduled on July 4th. The show at the American Legion on South High Street was postponed because of the weather forecast. This left the 26th Annual Champaign Cruisers Firecracker Car, Truck, and Bike Show in Urbana, Ohio as the only event.

In 2023, 676 entries were recorded, but this year only 295 vehicles were registered due to the threat of afternoon rain. The awards ceremony was moved to 1 PM in an attempt to get the show over before the rain started.

Central Ohio cruisers Jeff Shankle, Chad Herrick, and Kenny G received Sponsor's Pick Awards.

Chad, a member of the Old Goats Car Club, said a real live goat showed up at his car. Now that's a little freaky.

Thanks to Jeff Shankle for sharing his photos from the show. Here are some of the 295 cars:

Roundtown Cruisers Summer Cruise Night:

The Roundtown Cruisers Car Club hosted its July Summer Cruise Night show in downtown Circleville, Ohio on Friday.

This month the show had a little over 70 cars in attendance. The trophy winners were Mike Ramey and his 1932 Ford Coupe, Jim Moore with a 1962 Plymouth Wagon, Dallas Behrens' 1952 Chevy Suburban, and Rhonda and Steven Taylor with their 1956 Ford Pickup.

Horsepower Farms Cars, Coffee, and Donuts:

Horsepower Farms collector car and recreational vehicle condominiums on Home Rd in Powell, Ohio, hosted a cars, coffee, and donuts meet-up on Saturday morning. There were somewhere between 75 and 100 cars in attendance.

Here are examples of a single-storage condominium, a single-storage with a loft, and a double-storage condominium with a loft.

Jim Gill, owner of Chesrown Chevrolet GMC, has quite the collection of cars in his storage condominium.

There seems to be enough demand for storage condominiums that plans are in the works to build more units. If you'd like more information on Horsepower Farms, check out its website.

Stockhands Horses for Healing Car Show:

Sponsored by the Delaware Knights Auto Club and Artomotive, the third annual Stockhands Horses for Healing car show took place on Saturday off Rt 315 in Delaware, County.

Founded in 2014, the Stockhands Horses for Healing is a non-profit organization that provides equine-assisted therapeutic services to children and adults living with mental, physical, and emotional challenges.

This year the show set an attendance record with 145 registered vehicles. There was no set registration fee. It was whatever you wanted to donate.

There were door prizes, a gift card raffle, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle all to help raise money. The winning half of the 50/50 hit $433. All of which was donated back by the winner. All told, the show raised over $6000 for the organization. The most ever.

There were trophies for the "Top 25" along with a motorcycle award, Kids Choice, and Best of Show.

The Motorcycle Award went to Melinda Hines with a Hondamatic 400A.

The Kids Choice was a 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. Ironically, the winner received a diecast Chevy Impala.

Here are 24 of the Top 25 winners:

The Best of Show Award went to the 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 belonging to Chris and Stacy Selvaggio. A beautiful car!

Heart of Grove City Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

Sean "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were back in Grove City, Ohio on Saturday for their second Heart of Grove City Car, Truck, and Bike Show of the season.

There were 70-plus cars in attendance for this second Heart of Grove City Show.

Here are a few of the "Top 35" winners:

Gary and Gregg Allwine took home the Best of Show honors with their 1960 Studebaker Lark VIII.

There will be one more Heart of Grove City Show this season on September 7, 2024.

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Show at Chubby Hawaiian and West Church Social:

Just like last weekend, the Crossroads team hosted shows on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday the team was back at the Chubby Hawaiian Grill for the July show at the restaurant.

Lisa Gardner and her 2005 Mini Cooper received the Veteran Owned Vehicle Award.

Best of Show went to Dave O'Brien's 1970 Dodge Coronet convertible. Dave has owned the car for 54 years!

On Sunday the team hosted a show at West Church Social in Newark, Ohio.

At the end of the show, 31 trophies were awarded.

The Veteran Owned Vehicle Award went to Sherrill Luce for his 1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible.

The West Social staff picked the 1985 Chevy K5 Blazer owned by Matt Francis as Best of Show.

The next show for Crossroads Events will be at the Wings & Rings in Lewis Center this coming Sunday (7/14). They'll be back at West Church Social for another show on August 4, 2024.

The Point On Main Car Show:

The C-Town Cruisers were back at the Point On Main Sports Bar & Grill on Sunday for the July car show at the restaurant.

81 cars "officially" registered with another 20 - 30 cars taking up parking spaces but did not register.

There were awards for the "Top 30" plus Ladies Choice, Most Potential/Best Rat Rod, and Best of Show.

The Ladies Choice Award went to Ralph Carle's 1959 Chevy El Camino.

The 1934 Ford Coupe of Christian Antel received the Most Potential (MOPO)/Rat Rod Award.

Anthony and Carol Moye took home the Best of Show honors with their 1964 Chrysler 300.

The C-Town Cruisers will host the next show at the Point on Main August 11, 2024.

Junction City Independence Day Celebration Car Show:

The Independence Day Celebration Car Show in Junction City, Ohio registered 125 vehicles on Sunday.

Three members of the Old Goats Car Club, Douglas Mullen, Chad Herrick, and Chuck McKeever received awards.

Other News:

  • Dale Pearce traveled two hours on Saturday to attend a car show in Hillsboro, Ohio hosted by Max Sprague and the Ohio Car Shows and Cruise-Ins Facebook Group. There were 134 cars in attendance. Dale's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received a "Top 20" award.

Best of Show went to Terry Bach with a 1969 Ford Mustang GT 500 signed by Carol Shelby.

NEWS AND NOTES

This week's report covers a wide area of shows from Coshocton to Urbana, Ohio.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The restaurant's weekly cruise-in had the largest attendance so far this season with 413 cars.

This week's cruise-in was a memorial to loved ones who are no longer here. A table was set up by the food/registration shack so that people could display memories of their friends, family members, or whoever they wanted to remember.

Wayne Nisly who manages the cruise-in announced that milkshakes have been added to the menu.

This week's unique/unusual vehicle award goes to Charlie O'Neill and Tom Thompson for their Burgundy Bandit. The entire place paused for a moment when they fired it up to take it off the trailer.

Empty Pockets Cruisers Dave & Busters Car & Bike Show:

The last time the Empty Pockets Cruisers Car Club hosted a car show at Dave & Buster's Restaurant in Hilliard, Ohio was June 13, 2021. After a two-year hiatus and a completely remodeled Dave & Buster's, the club returned on Saturday to host another car show at the restaurant.

This year the club registered 109 cars. Jim McGruder was again the DJ and MC for the show.

The club presented a total of 50 award plaques. There were 45 "Favorite" awards plus five "Specialty" awards. The "Specialty" awards included Favorite Motorcycle, DJ's Choice, Dave & Buster's Choice, Sponsors Choice, and Empty Pockets Cruisers Choice, a.k.a Best of Show.

The Favorite Motorcycle went to William Russell with a 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide.

The 25th Anniversary 1992 Chevy Camaro RS belonging to Mark Schlueb received Dave & Buster's Choice Award.

Jim McGruder's DJ's Choice went to Christopher Gibbs with a 2016 Dodge Challenger Shaker 392.

Rod Scott and his 1958 Dodge D-100 Sweptside pickup received the Sponsors Choice.

The Empty Pockets Cruisers Choice (a.k.a Best of Show) was Robert Rutowkski's 1971 Pontiac GTO.

Immaculate Conception Parish Car Show:

The Immaculate Conception Parish in Columbus, Ohio held its 6th annual Car Show on Saturday.

The show registered 38 cars. There was a total of nine awards, Five trophies for People's Choice and four "Show Favorite". The People's Choice awards included Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Overall and "Cutest".

Best Interior went to John Hughes with a 1966 Volkswagon.

Jack Leffel's 1940 Ford pickup received the Best Engine Award. You may remember Jack's pickup from the May 28 to June 2, 2024 News and Notes where it was picked as the Unique/Unusual vehicle at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In.

The 1966 Corvette belonging to Fred Davis was voted Best Paint.

Dave Bratton's 1937 Wild Rod Ford was voted "Best Overall", a.k.a Best of Show.

Here are more cars from the show:

Cruise-In • Brews 2024:

The Pickerington Lions Clubs and Combustion Brewery & Taproom with the help of Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted the 2024 Cruise-In • Brews Car Show on Saturday in Pickerington, Ohio.

There were 100 cars in attendance. Best of Show went to Doug Porter and his 1966 Chevy Nova.

Corvettes at Roscoe Village:

I don't normally list or cover shows east of Newark, Ohio. But I make an exception for the All-Corvette Show at Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio. As you'll see, there's plenty of interest in this event from Central Ohio cruisers to include it on the list each year.

The show is put on by the Classic Glass Corvette Club. The historical Roscoe Village makes a very unique venue for a car show.

This year the club registered 187 Corvettes. Awards were presented for first, second, and third place for each generation of Corvette except for the 8th generation. That generation had a 4th place award. There were also "Specialty" Awards and a Best of Show.

Here are the Central Ohio cruisers that won awards:

Quentin Sayers received the 2nd Place Award in the C3 Category for his 1969 Corvette.

2nd Place in the C5 Category also went to Quentin Sayer for his 2000 Corvette driven by Miss M.

Jim McGruder's 2020 Corvette Stingray received 4th Place in the C8 Category.

3rd Place in the C8 Category went to Jeff Irwin's 2024 Corvette Z06.

Steve Kidwell and Nancy received the Classic Glass Corvette Club Choice for their 1954 Corvette.

The Street Elite Corvette Club received the Club Participation Award.

David Hahn and his 1954 Corvette took home The Best of Show honors.

Overall, it was a well-organized show at a unique venue. My only complaint which is common to most downtown shows is not being able to hear the PA announcements if you happen to be parked at the far ends of the street. I missed the first part of the award ceremony for that very reason.

Here are more Corvettes from the show:

Columbus Cars and Coffee Final Meet of the Season:

The corporate version of Columbus Cars and Coffee held its final meet of the season Saturday morning at the Midwestern Auto Group (MAG) dealership in Dublin, Ohio.

There were a lot of wet cars for this final meet.

Monster Mash Trunk or Treat Cruise-In:

The rain stopped and the roads dried Saturday afternoon in time for the Monster Mash Trunk or Treat Cruise-In at the Vineyard Church in London, Ohio.

The cruise-in had lots of cars decorated for Halloween and plenty of trick-or-treaters.

There was no charge to register your car. The Vineyard Church had 40 award plaques and three "Special" trophies. The "Special" trophies included Kid's Choice, People's Choice, and Pastor's Choice.

There was also a "Favorite" Costume contest for the kids.

The People's Choice went to Jimmy Hollar with a 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo SS.

Darrin Long's 1968 Chevy Camaro was the Kid's Choice.

The Pastor chose Dave Muller's 1960 Rambler 4 Dr Classic.

I'm glad the rain stopped and the roads dried as it turned out to be a fun couple of hours in London. London, Ohio that is.

Toy Barn Trunk or Treat:

About 40 cars turned out for the Toy Barn's Trunk or Treat event on Saturday evening.

Nothing says Halloween more than an orange Lamborghini Huracan with pumpkins.

Here are some more cars from the Toy Barn Trunk or Treat.

Pap's Rod Shop Trunk or Treat:

Pap's Rods n Kustoms hosted its 4th Annual Trunk or Treat Show at Evans Family Ranch in New Carlisle, Ohio on Saturday.

Last year the event had over 200 cars but this year with the rain attendance was a bit over 80.

Pap's gave out awards to the Top 40 cars along with Best Costume and Spookiest Car.

The top 40 award was a laser-cut steel Frankenstein face. Very clever.

This hearse received the Spookiest Car Award.

Pap's Rod n Kustoms has raised $2500 from its shows this year to help flood and hurricane victims.

Trunk or Treat Spooktacular!:

The Urbana, Ohio Cruisers hosted a rainy Trunk or Treat Spooktacular car show on Sunday.

The Urbana Cruisers with their auction raised $1650 for Donald Sparks. For those who may not know who Donald Sparks is, you'll find him on YouTube under the channel name Go4Rider. Every weekend Donald takes videos of as many car shows and cruise-ins as he can travel to in the Springfield-Dayton-Xenia-Urbana areas and posts them to most of the Ohio car show-related Facebook Groups. The money raised at Sunday's show will help cover some of the travel costs so Donald can continue making videos of Ohio car events.

That's it for this wet weekend of events. A big thanks to Jeff Shankle and Chad Herrick for their help with this week's News and Notes.

NOTE: Since the entire month of November is posted here, there will be no more weekly lists for the remainder of the year. Don't panic if you don't see a posting next week. I will be back in TWO weeks with reports from the shows that are scheduled during the first two weekends of November. I hope everyone has a good couple of weeks! Stay safe and I'll see you back here on November 13.

  • Champaign Cruiser's Firecracker Car, Truck, & Bike Show - The Champaign Cruiser's Car Club hosted its 25th annual Firecracker Car Show at Skelley Lumber Company in Urbana, Ohio. The show registered 677 cars this year. The Best of Show award went to Scott Trogolo and his 1948 Buick Road Master.
  • Union County Fairgrounds Annual Fourth of July Show - The annual Fourth of July car show at the Union County Fairgrounds in Marysville, Ohio registered 50 cars. The event advertised 25 awards but only presented 15. Thanks to some very wet spots from heavy rains on Sunday, one participant spent a good part of the show cleaning mud off his car. Kevin Foust and his 1940 Dodge WC40 Military Pickup received Best of Show.
  • VFW Post 8794 After the Parade Car Show - Our friend, Kenny G, received the Most Patriotic Award at the Whitehall, Ohio VFW Post 8794 After the Parade Car Show hosted by the C-Town Cruisers.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The Der Dutchman Cruise-In was canceled this past Thursday because the field was extremely wet from heavy rains earlier in the week. Hopefully, things will dry out and the cruise-in will be back this week.

Chesrown Class Car Cruise-In:

The rain cleared out Thursday evening just in time for the 9th Annual Classic Car Cruise-In at Chesrown Chevrolet Buick GMC in Delaware, Ohio.

Miss Ohio was there admiring all the cars.

Anyone hungry or thirsty could purchase food and refreshment from Graeter's Ice Cream, Dos Hermanos, and Slap Yo Self food trucks.

Just as in past years, the band Conspiracy provided live entertainment.

As for the cars, there didn't seem to be as many this year. I think the weather forecast might have had something to do with it and the fact that the cruise-in was announced later than usual. Still, there were well over 100 cars in attendance and of course lots of spectators.

Toy Barn American Car and Bike Event:

This past Friday, the Toy Barn in Dublin, Ohio started a weekly series of meets-ups at the dealership. The series will run through September 2nd. Each week will be a different category of cars. This week was American Cars and Bikes. Next week will be BMW Night. You can register for any of the series here.

Approximately 20-25 cars turned out for the American Car and Bike event. As you might expect, most were late-model Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes. A few older classic American cars did stop by. Somehow a couple of McLarens turned up in the mix.

The coolest vehicle at the meet-up was a 2022 RAM TRX pickup with a supercharged, Hemi engine and the entire body covered in Rhino lining. How much fun would that be to pick up a load of mulch or a few 2x4s in a 707 HP pickup?

Here are more cars from the Toy Barn American Car and Bike meet-up:

Chubby Hawaiian Grill Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

Frank Russell and the Crossroads Events team were in Baltimore, Ohio on Saturday for a car show hosted by Chubby Hawaiian Grill.

The show registered 58 cars. Thanks to a line of showers moving through the area, the 35 awards were presented early so everyone could get home before the rain.

The Larry Bickers Daily Driver award went to Bubba Hettinger and his 1978 Chevy K10 Stepside.

Derek Hayes and his 1983 Zimmer Gold Spirit took home the Best of Show honors.

Goodguys After-Hours Parties:

I spent a few hours Saturday evening hopping back and forth between the Goodguys after-hours parties at the Crown Plaza and Polaris Hilton hotels. This year I even managed to get a little closer to the burnouts at Quaker Steak and Lube. It looked like a third of the Columbus Police Force was at the restaurant monitoring the action.

I put together a small slideshow from the photos I took at the festivities.

Lewis Center Wings and Rings Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

On Sunday, the Crossroads Events team traveled 45 miles north from Baltimore to Lewis Center, Ohio for the monthly show at the Wings & Rings Sports Bar.

This month the show registered 45 vehicles.

The Larry Bickers Daily Driver award went to Pauline Robson with a 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus.

The manager of Wings & Rings selected David Elliott's 1957 Chevy Bel Air as Best of Show.

Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals:

Another Goodguys is in the books. The Central Ohio car community is very lucky to have an event like this in our backyard. There are only three Goodguys events east of the Mississippi River. These take place in Raleigh, NC, Lebanon, TN, and Columbus, OH.

Congratulations to Arch Mayer, Clayton Noggle, and Tony Oliver. All three of their cars received Goodguys All-American Sunday awards.

I was able to recognize the cars of a few more local Goodguys Award winners.

I want to thank everyone who sent me Goodguys photos or tagged me on Facebook. I went through more than 1000 photos and picked the ones that I thought best illustrated what Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals weekend is all about. Hope you enjoy it!

The big event this week will be the Performance Charity Car Show in Downtown Delaware, Ohio on Saturday. Originally scheduled for July, the show was postponed due to weather.

I contacted the Dairy Queen in South Bloomfield, the Sonic Drive-In in Heath and the Rusty Lug Nutz group out of Pickerington. All three told me they will continue their weekly cruise-ins as long as the weather is good and cars continue to show up. All predicted they would likely finish by the end of October.

Downtown Delaware First Friday:

Approximately 25-30 cars turned out for the final downtown Delaware, Ohio First Friday event of 2021. Ghostbusters appeared to be the unofficial theme of the evening.

Tolles Car and Craft Show:

The Tolles Career & Technical Center in Plain City, Ohio held their 4th Annual Car and Craft Show on Saturday.

The show registered 111 cars. Instead of dash plaques, the first 100 cars to register received a unique etched wooden plaque commemorating participation in the show.

The show presented a total of 23 awards. There were no "Favorites". Instead, each car was entered into one of 19 classes. Trophies were presented to each class winner. There was also a People's Choice award, a Best of Show award, and two special awards.

Clement Thun's 1947 Chevrolet Fleetline Aerosedan was selected Best of Show.

Toy Barn Fall Car Show:

I registered to participate in the Toy Barn Car Show on Sunday but decided to go as a spectator due to the weather. I counted close to 70 cars and a decent number of spectators when I was there around 10 AM. Although this was a far cry from the number of cars and the crowd at the spring show back in May.

Other Area Car Shows:

  • The 8th Annual Mario Knapp Memorial Car Show held at Quaker Steak and Lube on Lyra Drive in Columbus, Ohio registered over 150 cars on Saturday.
  • Sixty-Five cars turned out for the 4th Annual BGMC Car Show at the New Beginnings Church in Columbus, Ohio
  • More than 160 cars participated in the Steve Austin's Auto Group Car and Truck Show in Bellefontaine, Ohio on Saturday. I received a report that the music was loud enough to cause hearing damage.
  • Rick Levine's 1970 Oldsmobile 442 convertible took Best of Show honors at the Community Christian Church Fall Craft, Vendor and Car Show.

If you have information about any other area shows that took place this past weekend, please feel free to post in the Comment Section.
