The Central Ohio car show season shifts into high gear this weekend as we roll into May. The threat of snow and freeze warnings is finally in the rearview mirror, and for the next six months, it’s all about sunshine, pavement, and polished sheet metal. If your car is still sitting under a cover, now’s the time—get it out and get it on the road.

This week also marks my return to the Buckeye State after spending four months escaping Ohio’s winter. I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and catching up with everyone in the weeks ahead.

NEWS AND NOTES

Before getting into this week’s News and Notes, I want to touch on something that comes up often—the next generation of car enthusiasts.

It’s easy for our generation to take shots at the younger generation and say they’re just not into cars the way we were. I’ll admit, the percentage might be a little smaller, but the idea that the car culture is dying off just doesn’t hold up—at least not from what I’ve seen.

A perfect example is the Import Face-Off. People sometimes look at me a bit sideways when I say it’s the second-largest car event in Central Ohio behind Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals—and it makes two stops in the area every year. That kind of turnout doesn’t happen if the next generation isn’t showing up.

The cars may look different than what many of us grew up with—Chevys, Fords, Dodges, and Plymouths—now joined by Hondas, Subarus, Lexus, and Nissans. But the passion is still there. It just wears a different badge.

The bottom line: the next generation of car enthusiasts is alive and well. And if there’s any doubt, just take a look at the crowd from last weekend’s Import Face-Off. Even on a cold, blustery April Sunday, they showed up in force.

Car show organizers might want to take note.

Calvin Rowland Memorial Car Show:

Friday evening, the 2nd Annual Calvin Rowland Memorial Car Show was held at Precision Fleet Repair in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

For those who may not know, Calvin Rowland was a longtime member of the Central Ohio car community who regularly brought his two trucks to car shows until his passing in 2023.

Friday’s show drew 43 cars. Our good friend Jeff Shankle and his “Green Goblin” took home one of the Top awards.

NEWS AND NOTES

Several events on Saturday saw strong participation thanks to temperatures being a bit milder than typical for this time of year.

Horsepower Farms in Powell drew more than 250 cars for its first Cars N’ Condo meetup of the season. Along with the cars the event gave out over 150 donuts and plenty of coffee to keep everyone fueled.

The first Take Back The Strip Cruise of the year in Circleville also had a solid turnout Saturday evening.

On the motorcycle side, the Columbus Vintage Motorcycle Group shifted its meetup from Sunday to Saturday due to Easter and the weather. The move paid off with another strong turnout of bikes.

Update: Mershon's World of Cars:

Just a follow-up to last week’s discussion regarding Mershon’s. Unfortunately, Mershon’s World of Cars has ceased operations.

Springfield Cars & Coffee has received permission to continue utilizing the parking lot for its monthly meet-ups for the foreseeable future, ensuring continuity for the local enthusiast community despite the closure.

1934 Ford Roadster For Sale:

I don’t normally allow For Sale ads on carshowtalk.com. The site once had a Classifieds section, but it was removed after being underutilized.

I’m making an exception in this case to honor Fred Harris, who was a very active participant in the Central Ohio car community until his passing last year.

His wife is selling his 1934 Ford Roadster, a car that earned numerous awards over the years. If you’re interested, please contact Pamela Harris at 614-403-8489.

Participation is clearly trending in the right direction, with both car and motorcycle events seeing strong turnouts when the weather cooperates. With more consistent spring temperatures hopefully on the way, the calendar—and the crowds—should continue to build in the coming weeks.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In

The third time's a charm. Finally a Thursday with no rain or rain-soaked fields. As a result, attendance reached 312 cars.

My buddy Russ Annis is a die-hard Notre Dame fan, while I proudly bleed scarlet and gray for Ohio State. Before the National Championship game, we made a friendly wager: the loser had to wear the winning team’s ball cap to the first three car shows we attended together this year.

Let’s just say Russ has never looked better than he did rocking that Ohio State hat—although I’m not sure he’d agree. I told him it brings out the color in his eyes… he told me to stop talking.

As usual, some interesting vehicles turned up at the cruise-in. Tom Corbin brought his 1951 Chevy Bel Air, and an Austin Mini Traveller and a Vanderhall Venice were also on display.

However, the most unusual vehicle of the evening was an International Metro van equipped with air suspension.

Creative Auto Group/Advance Auto Parts Car Show:

Car enthusiasts gathered Friday evening in Marysville, Ohio, as The Creative Auto Group hosted its second car show of the season at the Advance Auto Parts store. 

Attendance was 16 cars—much better than last month, thanks to the nicer weather. The show raised $55 for the Marysville Food Pantry.

The three cars that received awards this month were:

  • Jim Shaw with a 1939 Chevy Master 85
  • Nor Miscovich with a 1965 Chevy Corvair
  • Marcus Hagans with a 1972 Olds Cutlass

Empty Pockets Armed Forces Day Car Show:

The Empty Pockets Cruisers Car Club hosted its annual Armed Forces Day car show at VFW Post 4931 on Walcutt Road in Columbus, Ohio.

The show registered 60 cars. Award plaques were given to the Top 40, along with four “Specialty” awards: VFW Post 4931 Choice, DJ’s Choice, Sponsor’s Choice, and Empty Pockets Cruisers Choice. There would have been a fifth “Specialty” award for Best Motorcycle, but no one registered one.

The award presentation began with a special award presented to Renee Robinson of the Howard Hanna/Robinson Group for her contributions and dedication as the primary sponsor of the Empty Pockets events over the years.

Fostering Further Car Show:

The Fostering Further Organization hosted its third annual car show at the Newark Eagles in Newark, Ohio, on Saturday. The organization was created to support healthy, supportive relationships between community members and those involved in foster care in Central Ohio.

Saturday’s show registered 108 cars.

Keith Ruhl and Dave O’Brien both received Top 35 awards, while Jeff Tolley took home Best Paint for his 1959 Chevy Biscayne.

Best of Show honors went to Tim Davidheiser and his 1948 International KB-1 pickup. Congratulations, Tim!

Pickerington High School Bands Benefit Car Show:

Pickerington Central High School in Pickerington, Ohio, was the site of a benefit car show on Saturday to help raise money to send both Pickerington High School bands to London.

The show registered 125 cars. There were three-foot trophies awarded to the Top 40, along with 10 specialty awards.

The list of special award winners included:

  • Best Truck: 1950 Chevy 3100 - Owner: Dale Pearce
  • People's Choice: 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat - Owner: Kenny G
  • Best GM: 1970 Chevy Chevelle - Owner: Doug Mullin
  • Best Mopar: 1974 Plymouth Satellite - Owner: Dwain Green
  • Best Ford: 1940 Ford Panel Truck - Owner: Harry Ours
  • Best Paint: 1937 Wild Rod Ford - Owner: Dave Bratton
  • Director's Choice: 2005 Chevy SSR - Owner: Hunter Crawford

Dale Pearce took home three awards. He received Top 40 Awards for his 1967 Corvette Stingray and 1950 Chevy 3600 pickup, as well as the Best Truck Award for his 1950 3100 pickup.

Fred Williams’s 1969 Ford Mustang 5.0 Coyote received the Best of Show Award.

Cruisin' with the King Car Show:

On Saturday evening, the Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club hosted its May car show at the Burger King in Marysville, Ohio.

There were door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and dash plaques. The club presented award plaques to its 15 favorite registered cars.

This month, 46 cars were registered, with another 16 cars in attendance that did not register.

NAPA Trunk or Treat Cruise-In:

Friday was a wonderful evening for a Trunk-or-Treat Cruise-in at the NAPA Auto Parts Store in Hilliard, Ohio.

There were more than 20 cars in attendance. Plenty of kids, costumes, and candy provided an enjoyable autumn evening.

American Legion Southway Post #144 Trunk-N-Treat:

Shaun "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were back at the American Legion Southway Post #144 on Sunday hosting the annual Trunk-N-Treat Car, Bike & Truck Show.

The show featured a costume contest for the adults, kids, and pets, a hayride, plenty of candy, and lots of beautiful rides and good friends.

With crisp temperatures and lots of sunshine, the C-Town Cruisers registered 66 vehicles.

The Vienna Door Company sponsored this year's awards. There were trophies for the "Favorite 50" along with trophies for Best Kid, Adult and Pet Costume, Best Dressed Vehicle, Kids Favorite, Vienna Door Company's Favorite, DJ's Favorite, and Best of Show.

For some unexplained reason, a Jeff Tolley-1 and a Jeff Tolley-2 appear this time of year. It kind of reminds me of a Big Foot sighting.

Here are the Best Costume winners:

The Best Dressed Vehicle Award went to Kenny G and Sue and their "Goolish" 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

The Kids' Favorite was the 1971 Chevy Nova belonging to the Head Mechanic (Sandy).

The Vienna Door Company selected Vic & Vickie Cunningham's 1965 Plymouth Barracuda as its "Favorite". The color might have influenced the pick.

The DJ's Favorite, Shaun's pick, was the 2017 Harley Davidson Street Glide of Randy Armentrout.

The Best of Show Award went to Mark Enyart and his 1962 Chevy Impala SS.

The C-Town Cruisers have two more shows this year. This Saturday (November 2nd) they will be at The Point on Main. This is a change of date. The show was originally scheduled for November 3rd but moved to November 2nd. The final show will be their annual Veterans Day Car Show on November 11th at the American Legion Southway Post #144.

It's Goodguys Week!

The Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals comes to town this weekend. It is the largest car event in Central Ohio, attracting car enthusiasts from all over the region. There will be impressive displays of classic, muscle cars, hot rods, and custom builds. Whether you participate with your car or as a spectator, it's worth the price of admission.

The excitement doesn't end when the day’s events wrap up at the Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals. Join fellow enthusiasts and keep the festivities going at the after-parties at the Crown Plaza North and Hilton Polaris Hotels, and Quaker Steak & Lube:

YouTuber, Automotive Adventures with Austin, has posted a new ride-along video he did today with a Goodguys official showing the changes to this year's show.

UPDATE:

Just wanted to make everyone aware that there is major construction and I mean MAJOR CONSTRUCTION going on at the Ohio Expo Center. A YouTuber by the name of Automotive Adventures With Austin posted a video yesterday of the construction going on at the Expo Center. If you're bringing a car to the Goodguys be prepared for a lot of concrete blocks, fencing, and dust. It could be a big mess if it rains this weekend!

Champaign Cruisers Firecracker Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

Originally, there were two events in the area scheduled on July 4th. The show at the American Legion on South High Street was postponed because of the weather forecast. This left the 26th Annual Champaign Cruisers Firecracker Car, Truck, and Bike Show in Urbana, Ohio as the only event.

In 2023, 676 entries were recorded, but this year only 295 vehicles were registered due to the threat of afternoon rain. The awards ceremony was moved to 1 PM in an attempt to get the show over before the rain started.

Central Ohio cruisers Jeff Shankle, Chad Herrick, and Kenny G received Sponsor's Pick Awards.

Chad, a member of the Old Goats Car Club, said a real live goat showed up at his car. Now that's a little freaky.

Roundtown Cruisers Summer Cruise Night:

The Roundtown Cruisers Car Club hosted its July Summer Cruise Night show in downtown Circleville, Ohio on Friday.

This month the show had a little over 70 cars in attendance. The trophy winners were Mike Ramey and his 1932 Ford Coupe, Jim Moore with a 1962 Plymouth Wagon, Dallas Behrens' 1952 Chevy Suburban, and Rhonda and Steven Taylor with their 1956 Ford Pickup.

Horsepower Farms Cars, Coffee, and Donuts:

Horsepower Farms collector car and recreational vehicle condominiums on Home Rd in Powell, Ohio, hosted a cars, coffee, and donuts meet-up on Saturday morning. There were somewhere between 75 and 100 cars in attendance.

Here are examples of a single-storage condominium, a single-storage with a loft, and a double-storage condominium with a loft.

Jim Gill, owner of Chesrown Chevrolet GMC, has quite the collection of cars in his storage condominium.

There seems to be enough demand for storage condominiums that plans are in the works to build more units. If you'd like more information on Horsepower Farms, check out its website.

Stockhands Horses for Healing Car Show:

Sponsored by the Delaware Knights Auto Club and Artomotive, the third annual Stockhands Horses for Healing car show took place on Saturday off Rt 315 in Delaware, County.

Founded in 2014, the Stockhands Horses for Healing is a non-profit organization that provides equine-assisted therapeutic services to children and adults living with mental, physical, and emotional challenges.

This year the show set an attendance record with 145 registered vehicles. There was no set registration fee. It was whatever you wanted to donate.

There were door prizes, a gift card raffle, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle all to help raise money. The winning half of the 50/50 hit $433. All of which was donated back by the winner. All told, the show raised over $6000 for the organization. The most ever.

There were trophies for the "Top 25" along with a motorcycle award, Kids Choice, and Best of Show.

The Motorcycle Award went to Melinda Hines with a Hondamatic 400A.

The Kids Choice was a 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. Ironically, the winner received a diecast Chevy Impala.

The Best of Show Award went to the 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 belonging to Chris and Stacy Selvaggio. A beautiful car!

Heart of Grove City Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

Sean "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were back in Grove City, Ohio on Saturday for their second Heart of Grove City Car, Truck, and Bike Show of the season.

There were 70-plus cars in attendance for this second Heart of Grove City Show.

Here are a few of the "Top 35" winners:

Gary and Gregg Allwine took home the Best of Show honors with their 1960 Studebaker Lark VIII.

There will be one more Heart of Grove City Show this season on September 7, 2024.

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Show at Chubby Hawaiian and West Church Social:

Just like last weekend, the Crossroads team hosted shows on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday the team was back at the Chubby Hawaiian Grill for the July show at the restaurant.

Lisa Gardner and her 2005 Mini Cooper received the Veteran Owned Vehicle Award.

Best of Show went to Dave O'Brien's 1970 Dodge Coronet convertible. Dave has owned the car for 54 years!

On Sunday the team hosted a show at West Church Social in Newark, Ohio.

At the end of the show, 31 trophies were awarded.

The Veteran Owned Vehicle Award went to Sherrill Luce for his 1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible.

The West Social staff picked the 1985 Chevy K5 Blazer owned by Matt Francis as Best of Show.

The next show for Crossroads Events will be at the Wings & Rings in Lewis Center this coming Sunday (7/14). They'll be back at West Church Social for another show on August 4, 2024.

The Point On Main Car Show:

The C-Town Cruisers were back at the Point On Main Sports Bar & Grill on Sunday for the July car show at the restaurant.

81 cars "officially" registered with another 20 - 30 cars taking up parking spaces but did not register.

There were awards for the "Top 30" plus Ladies Choice, Most Potential/Best Rat Rod, and Best of Show.

The Ladies Choice Award went to Ralph Carle's 1959 Chevy El Camino.

The 1934 Ford Coupe of Christian Antel received the Most Potential (MOPO)/Rat Rod Award.

Anthony and Carol Moye took home the Best of Show honors with their 1964 Chrysler 300.

The C-Town Cruisers will host the next show at the Point on Main August 11, 2024.

Junction City Independence Day Celebration Car Show:

The Independence Day Celebration Car Show in Junction City, Ohio registered 125 vehicles on Sunday.

Three members of the Old Goats Car Club, Douglas Mullen, Chad Herrick, and Chuck McKeever received awards.

Other News:

  • Dale Pearce traveled two hours on Saturday to attend a car show in Hillsboro, Ohio hosted by Max Sprague and the Ohio Car Shows and Cruise-Ins Facebook Group. There were 134 cars in attendance. Dale's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received a "Top 20" award.

Best of Show went to Terry Bach with a 1969 Ford Mustang GT 500 signed by Carol Shelby.

With better-than-expected weather this past weekend and lots of events on the schedule, this week's News and Notes is a big one!

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Perfect weather on Thursday evening brought out 283 cars to the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio.

When the weather is nice, you can count on something unique or unusual to show up at the cruise-in. This week it was a street-legal NASCAR race car once driven by Jeremy Mayfield. The car garnered a lot of attention when it showed up.

Columbus Cars and Coffee at Esoteric Fine Auto Finishing:

Postponing Cars and Coffee at Esoteric for two weeks because of the weather turned out to be a good decision. With little to no rain in the forecast, a packed house of cars and spectators turned out for the Saturday morning Cars and Coffee.

There was the usual array of gorgeous exotics but also a nice mix of Classic American Muscle cars.

Two cars caught my attention during the morning. The first was a black Porsche GT3 RS with gold wheels, yellow calipers, and yellow stitching on the interior. The car just looked like it would be wicked fast around a track.

The second car was a restored 1963 split-window Corvette. The chassis was custom-made by Coffman Corvette out of Mansfield, Ohio. The powertrain was GM's small block LS3 engine. The Corvette was certainly Best of Show quality.

Esoteric Fine Auto Finishing will host another Columbus Cars and Coffee on September 14. If the weather is good, it's worth the drive to New Albany.

Cruisin' with the King:

The Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club held its May show at the Burger King on Rt. 31 in Marysville, Ohio.

The show registered 64 cars but had a total of 80 cars in attendance Saturday evening.

Each month the Club picks its "Favorite" 15 cars to receive a unique award plaque from those who registered. And by the way, registration is always free.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio held its first cruise-in of the season on Thursday.

There were 273 cars in attendance. A pop-up shower around 6:15 PM dampened (no pun intended) what was otherwise a perfect evening for the season-opening cruise-in.

As always, lots of cool rides turned out for the cruise-in.

As luck would have it, Mother Nature decided to be very uncooperative this weekend. Scattered showers throughout the entire Central Ohio area for most of the weekend had a major effect on attendance.

Mag's Gospel Cruise-In:

The rain held off Friday evening, but the chance of rain kept attendance down at Mag's Gospel Cruise-In in Columbus.

Bruce Hoover's 2010 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Rat Fink motorcycle took home Best Bike and Best of Show awards.

Roundtown Cruisers Summer Cruise Nights:

The Roundtown Cruisers hosted its second Summer Cruise Night of the season in downtown Circleville, Ohio Friday evening.

There were 68 cars in attendance despite some early rain showers that eventually cleared out.

The Sponsor's Choice Award went to Neil Colter with a 1968 Dodge Dart GT.

Gathering Place Car Show:

With the help of Dragin' Angels, the Gathering Place Church in Washington Court House, Ohio held its second annual car show on Saturday. There were 38 cars in attendance.

Dale Pearce's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received the Best Truck Award.

Best of Show honors went to Tye Campbell and his 1972 Chevy Nova.

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Show at Chubby Hawaiian Grill:

The Crossroads team hosted its first car show of the season on Saturday at the Chubby Hawaiian Grill in Baltimore, Ohio.

Tim Hooten took home the Veteran Owned Award with his 1964 MG.

Jess Weldy's 2021 Ford Mustang received the Best of Show Award.

The Crossroads team will be back at the Chubby Hawaiian Grill on June 1.

The Paul Raduege Car Show:

The rain decided to take the afternoon off on Sunday just in time for the 2nd Annual Paul Raduege Car Show at the Outerbelt Brewing in Carroll, Ohio.

With the help of the Lancaster Car Scene (LCS), the show registered 54 cars.

Everyone who registered a car received a door prize ticket for a chance to win a bucket of car care products or coffee from Shifted Coffee. There was also a 50/50 raffle. The winner took home $117.

There were awards for the Top 30 along with category awards for Best Jeep, Best Truck, Best Bike, Best Muscle, Best Import, Lynn Raduege's Choice, and Best of Show.

Since Paul Raduege was one of the founding members of the Old Goats Car Club, it's no surprise that the Club received the LCS Battle of the Clubs Top Club Award.

And finally, The Best of Show honors went to Paul Armstrong and his 1963 Chevy C10 pickup.

Other Shows:

Our good friend, Arch Mayer, was at Fortress Obetz on Thursday for the first Full Throttle Thursdays Cruise-In of the season.

Arch estimated there were at least 100 cars, trucks, and Jeeps in attendance along with well over 100 bikes. He thought this was the best turnout the event had ever had.

If you felt like braving the early April temperatures to hang out around cars and your car buddies, then Circleville, Ohio was the place to be this past weekend.

On Friday evening, the Roundtown Cruisers Car Club held its first Summer Cruise Night of the season in downtown Circleville. The cruise-in had 50 cars in attendance. There were door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and several sponsors' choice awards.

Saturday evening the season opener of Take Back the Strip Cruise took place. Some 500 cars cruised north and south on Court Street in Circleville. The event raised $1200 for the Circle Area Humane Society.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, used the cruise for the maiden voyage of his Ole Yeller pickup truck.

Donald Sparks posted a video on his Go4Rider YouTube channel from Saturday morning's Springfield Cars and Coffee.

We have a celebrity Corvette among us. Craig Grunkemeyer's 1969 Corvette is featured in the December issue of Corvette Magazine.

Craig said this all came about when a photographer at the Goodguys after-hours party at the Crown Plaza noticed his Corvette and asked to do a photoshoot of his car. He and the photographer drove to a location off of Busch Boulevard to take the photos. The editors of the magazine liked the photos and Craig's car so much they chose to include an article about it in the December edition. Congrats Craig!

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Rain showers on Thursday, which at times came down very hard, spoiled the final cruise-in of the season at Der Dutchman.

About 40 dedicated cruisers or depending on your perspective crazy cruisers turned out for the last cruise-in. Because of the weather conditions, there was no food. However, those who did stop by were treated to one of the restaurant's cream-filled Long John donuts.

The banquet is this coming Thursday and will finish the season for the cruise-in.

Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride at Massey's Pizza:

On Saturday, Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride team hosted its second to last show of the season at Massey's Pizza in Grove City, Ohio.

With picture-perfect weather, the show registered 107 vehicles.

I didn't count the number of trophies Boots awarded at the end of the show, but as you can see from the photo it was not a small number.

It would take way too long to list all the award winners therefore I'm going to keep it to the "Special" category winners.

Keeler & Nadler Cars & Coffee:

Keeler & Nadler Family Weath in Dublin, Ohio hosted cars & coffee Saturday morning.

About 30 cars rolled through the cruise-in. I received word that a lot of newer Corvettes showed up.

JSB Home Solutions Car Show:

JSB Home Solutions out of Canal Winchester, Ohio hosted its second annual Car Show on Saturday.

Attendance for this year's show was around 50 cars.

Dale Pearce's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received the Owner's Pick. A rumor is floating around that Dale needed assistance getting up from that kneeling position. 😎

Westerville Special Olympics Car Show:

Roush Honda Used Car Company in Westerville, Ohio sponsored a car show on Sunday supporting Westerville Special Olympics.

The show registered more than 70 cars which is very respectable for a first-time event.

In addition to the car registration, there were 50/50 and door prize raffles. A fair number of the door prizes were $50 gift certificates to local restaurants. Two food trucks were parked behind the Roush building offering food and refreshments.

Three trophies were presented at the end of the show. The trophies included a People's Choice, Athlete's Choice, and Roush Employees' Choice.

The organizers promise to have more awards next year.

Billy Bush's 2015 Dodge Challenger RT received the Athlete's Choice Award.

The Roush Employees' Choice went to Patric Shaw and his rat rod.

Rod Scott and his 1958 Desoto Firedome Sportsman went home with the People's Choice Award.

Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride at Moose Lodge 1427:

The Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride Tour finished out the season at Moose Lodge 1427 in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday.

There were 51 cars in attendance so everyone went home a winner.

Other Area Shows:

  • The Kidspalooza Car Show in Circleville, Ohio on Saturday registered 141 cars. Ted Tickle and his 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 received a Top 10 award. Nice award by the way.
  • Dale Pearce helped organize a small car show at the StoryPoint Senior Living Center in Pickerington, Ohio this past Thursday. Schon Crouse received Best of Show with his 1967 Pontiac and Lynn Raduege took 2nd Place with her 427 Roush Mustang.
  • While it's not a Central Ohio car event, the Pumpkin Run Nationals took place this past weekend at the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville, Ohio. Jeff Shankle attended the event and posted tons of photos to his Facebook page. If you're interested in seeing vehicles from the Pumpkin Run, here are the links to Jeff's photos. NEWS AND NOTES

This past weekend saw near-perfect car show weather on Friday and Saturday disappear into morning showers on Sunday which canceled three events.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Attendance at the first cruise-in of the season at the Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio reached 240 Thursday evening. Of course, there was the usual assortment of low-calorie goodies raffled off at the end.

Delaware First Friday:

The First Friday event in downtown Delaware, Ohio took place on Friday evening. Approximately 38 cars participated in the cruise-in part of the event.

It's my understanding that If you want to leave the cruise-in before 9 PM, you can request assistance from the police to move your vehicle from the designated parking area.

Tri-County's Annual Car Show:

The Tri-County Career Center in Nelsonville, Ohio hosted its annual car show on Saturday. The event drew more the 80 cars.

The awards were hand-made and all the award winners were picked by the students. Our good friend, Dale Pearce, received a Truck trophy. Karson Musick went home with the Best of Show Peddle Car.

NAMI Mid-Ohio Car Show:

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Mid-Ohio hosted its annual car show on Saturday at the Polaris Shopping Mall in Columbus, Ohio. The organization serves Delaware, Marrow, and Union counties.

The event registered more than 80 cars. There were 60-80 vendor booths selling all kinds of merchandise.

The show presented four awards, Best Muscle, Best Classic, Best Modern, and Best of Show. Lynn Wellman and her 1968 Pontiac Firebird received the Best Muscle Award. This was Lynn's first car show. The Best Classic award went to Rex Blevins with a 1955 Crown Victoria. The 2016 McLaren belonging to Joey Lowendick was picked Best Modern and our good friend, Dave Bratton, and his 1937 Ford convertible was the Best of Show winner.

Circleville First Church Auto Show:

The weather turned out to be a little better in Circleville on Sunday than in Columbus. As a result, the Circleville First Church Auto Show registered 85 cars. David Anderson and his 1963 Chevy Impala SS received the Best of Show award.

Other Area Shows:

  • The Elgin High School Music Boosters Classic Car & Bike Show in Marion, Ohio registered 91 cars on Saturday. Our good friend, Russ Annis, and his 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS picked up one of the 25 "Favorite" awards.
  • Speaking of Marion, The Rod Knockers Car Club of Marion hosted its second show of the season at the Rural King on Saturday evening. There were more than 150 cars in attendance.
  • On Sunday, Chad Herrick took home the Best of Show honors at the Eldorado's Car, Truck, & Bike Show with his 2018 Dodge Charger Daytona 392. Brian Z's Ford Falcon received Best Car and Mark Mitchell's SSR Best Truck.
  • After the rain moved out of the area, the Heart of Ohio Antique Center in Springfield, Ohio ended up with 50-60 cars in attendance for its monthly cruise-in Sunday afternoon.
