NEWS AND NOTES

With better-than-expected weather this past weekend and lots of events on the schedule, this week's News and Notes is a big one!

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Perfect weather on Thursday evening brought out 283 cars to the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio.

When the weather is nice, you can count on something unique or unusual to show up at the cruise-in. This week it was a street-legal NASCAR race car once driven by Jeremy Mayfield. The car garnered a lot of attention when it showed up.

Columbus Cars and Coffee at Esoteric Fine Auto Finishing:

Postponing Cars and Coffee at Esoteric for two weeks because of the weather turned out to be a good decision. With little to no rain in the forecast, a packed house of cars and spectators turned out for the Saturday morning Cars and Coffee.

There was the usual array of gorgeous exotics but also a nice mix of Classic American Muscle cars.

Two cars caught my attention during the morning. The first was a black Porsche GT3 RS with gold wheels, yellow calipers, and yellow stitching on the interior. The car just looked like it would be wicked fast around a track.

The second car was a restored 1963 split-window Corvette. The chassis was custom-made by Coffman Corvette out of Mansfield, Ohio. The powertrain was GM's small block LS3 engine. The Corvette was certainly Best of Show quality.

Esoteric Fine Auto Finishing will host another Columbus Cars and Coffee on September 14. If the weather is good, it's worth the drive to New Albany.

Cruisin' with the King:

The Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club held its May show at the Burger King on Rt. 31 in Marysville, Ohio.

The show registered 64 cars but had a total of 80 cars in attendance Saturday evening.

Each month the Club picks its "Favorite" 15 cars to receive a unique award plaque from those who registered. And by the way, registration is always free.

Here are this month's "Favorite" picks:

Empty Pockets Armed Forces Day Car & Bike Show:

The Empty Pockets Cruisers Car Club hosted its annual Armed Forces Day Car & Bike Show at the VFW 2436 in Hilliard, Ohio on Saturday.

The show registered 103 cars and gave out 50 awards.

This year had some very cool bikes in attendance.

The Best of Show award went to David Anderson with a 1949 Supercharged Ford Tudor Convertible.

Geer Gas Car Show & Food Drive:

Geer Gas on Mcklinley Ave. in Columbus, Ohio held its 6th Annual Car Show and Food Drive on Saturday.

The show presented four unique awards. The awards included Best Paint, Best Sounding Car Audio, Best Custom, and Best of Show.

The show didn't use window cards or announce the names of the winners. The only vehicle I recognize is Steve Andrix's 1948 Chevy pickup which received the Best Paint award. Best of Show went to a 1966 Ford Mustang

Coolest Cars in Columbus:

The Cards & Cars Student Organization at St. Charles Preparatory School in Bexley, Ohio hosted its inaugural car show/cruise-in on Sunday.

There was no judging or trophies just 40 plus cool vehicles on display. Black Kahawa Coffee and a flavored ice machine provided refreshments.

The Ricart Ford GTs were on display along with one of JEGS drag racers.

The most unusual vehicle in the show was the Pit-Bull VX SWAT truck built by Alpine Armoring.

Fields Auto Works had two cars on display built on its custom chassis. The company is based in the Columbus, Ohio area and manufactures purpose-built sports/track car chassis. The chief engineer/owner of the company is a St. Charles graduate.

Here is a sampling of some of the other cars that participated in the show:

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Shows at Steak 'n Shake and Millersport Lions Club:

Frank Russell and the Crossroads Events Team hosted two car shows this past weekend. On Saturday, the team was at Steak 'n Shake in Newark, Ohio.

Anyone who registered a car enjoyed a 40% discount on food from Steak 'n Shake.

Steak 'n Shake's pick for Best of Show went to Jeff Grindrod for his 1956 Ford Thunderbird.

The Best Veteran Owned Award went to the 1955 Chevy Bel Air belonging to Larry and Sue Altman.

The Crossroads team traveled Sunday to Millersport, Ohio to host a show at the Lions Club.

The Best in Show went to Andi for her late husband Rob's 1960 El Camino.

Tom and Paulina Ross received the Best Veteran Owned Vehicle for their 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Krieger All Ford Show:

If you're into Fords, Krieger Ford on Morse Rd in Columbus, Ohio was the place to be on Sunday.

The show was sold out several weeks in advance with 239 cars pre-registered but attendance on the day of the show was "officially" 203.

Our good friend, Arch Mayer, received Best of Show in his Class for his 2004 Ford Saleen.

Tony Oliver, Kenny Robinson, and Dustin Bowers took Awards of Excellence in their respective classes.

A happy group of Ford owners after a long hard day at the All Ford Show.

Circleville First Church Spring Auto Show:

The Circleville First Church in none other than Circleville, Ohio hosted its 18th Annual Spring Auto Show on Sunday.

There were over 80 cars in attendance. The church presented plaques to the Top 35 and trophies for the "Special Category" Awards.

Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC40 Military Weapons Carrier received the Best of Show honors.

Lancaster Community Days Festival Car Show:

The Lancaster Community Days Festival going on at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds in Lancaster, Ohio held a car show on Sunday as part of the Festival.

With the help of the Lancaster Car Scene (LCS), the show registered 89 Cars. There were awards for the Top 50 plus five "Special Category" awards and a Best of Show.

Here are a few cars I recognize that attended the show:

I don't know the Best of Show winner but seeing that Bob Kirst brought his 1995 Custom Chevy Camaro to the show I'm going to make a very educated guess it won BOS.

PBJ Healing with Horsepower Car Show:

The last show I want to mention this week is the PBJ Healing with Horsepower that took place Saturday at the Five14 Church in Columbus, Ohio.

I don't have an exact number in attendance but estimates are between 50 and 60 cars.

Here are a few of the cars that participated in the show:

I've got a big group of folks to thank for their contributions to this week's report. The list includes Jeff Shankle, Dave Bratton, Arch Mayer, Frank Russell, Dale Pearce, Chad Herrick, Kevin Foust, Jim Sradeja, and Russ Annis.

Please Note: Due to the holiday on Monday, next week's list of events will be posted on Tuesday.

We are already on your email list and appreciate all the work you do to put it together.

We have another show we would like to add to the list. It is the 37th Annual Earth Angel Foundation Fundraiser - Super Cruise-In.
It will be held at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds in Lancaster on Saturday, June 22nd.
    I have included their website.
