NEWS AND NOTES

We have a celebrity Corvette among us. Craig Grunkemeyer's 1969 Corvette is featured in the December issue of Corvette Magazine.

Craig said this all came about when a photographer at the Goodguys after-hours party at the Crown Plaza noticed his Corvette and asked to do a photoshoot of his car. He and the photographer drove to a location off of Busch Boulevard to take the photos. The editors of the magazine liked the photos and Craig's car so much they chose to include an article about it in the December edition. Congrats Craig!

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Rain showers on Thursday, which at times came down very hard, spoiled the final cruise-in of the season at Der Dutchman.

About 40 dedicated cruisers or depending on your perspective crazy cruisers turned out for the last cruise-in. Because of the weather conditions, there was no food. However, those who did stop by were treated to one of the restaurant's cream-filled Long John donuts.

The banquet is this coming Thursday and will finish the season for the cruise-in.

Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride at Massey's Pizza:

On Saturday, Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride team hosted its second to last show of the season at Massey's Pizza in Grove City, Ohio.

With picture-perfect weather, the show registered 107 vehicles.

I didn't count the number of trophies Boots awarded at the end of the show, but as you can see from the photo it was not a small number.

It would take way too long to list all the award winners therefore I'm going to keep it to the "Special" category winners.

Keeler & Nadler Cars & Coffee:

Keeler & Nadler Family Weath in Dublin, Ohio hosted cars & coffee Saturday morning.

About 30 cars rolled through the cruise-in. I received word that a lot of newer Corvettes showed up.

Here are some of the cars that attended the Keeler & Nadler cars and coffee:

JSB Home Solutions Car Show:

JSB Home Solutions out of Canal Winchester, Ohio hosted its second annual Car Show on Saturday.

Attendance for this year's show was around 50 cars.

Dale Pearce's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received the Owner's Pick. A rumor is floating around that Dale needed assistance getting up from that kneeling position. 😎

Westerville Special Olympics Car Show:

Roush Honda Used Car Company in Westerville, Ohio sponsored a car show on Sunday supporting Westerville Special Olympics.

The show registered more than 70 cars which is very respectable for a first-time event.

In addition to the car registration, there were 50/50 and door prize raffles. A fair number of the door prizes were $50 gift certificates to local restaurants. Two food trucks were parked behind the Roush building offering food and refreshments.

Three trophies were presented at the end of the show. The trophies included a People's Choice, Athlete's Choice, and Roush Employees' Choice.

The organizers promise to have more awards next year.

Billy Bush's 2015 Dodge Challenger RT received the Athlete's Choice Award.

The Roush Employees' Choice went to Patric Shaw and his rat rod.

Rod Scott and his 1958 Desoto Firedome Sportsman went home with the People's Choice Award.

Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride at Moose Lodge 1427:

The Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride Tour finished out the season at Moose Lodge 1427 in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday.

There were 51 cars in attendance so everyone went home a winner.

Other Area Shows:

  • The Kidspalooza Car Show in Circleville, Ohio on Saturday registered 141 cars. Ted Tickle and his 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 received a Top 10 award. Nice award by the way.
  • Dale Pearce helped organize a small car show at the StoryPoint Senior Living Center in Pickerington, Ohio this past Thursday. Schon Crouse received Best of Show with his 1967 Pontiac and Lynn Raduege took 2nd Place with her 427 Roush Mustang.
  • While it's not a Central Ohio car event, the Pumpkin Run Nationals took place this past weekend at the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville, Ohio. Jeff Shankle attended the event and posted tons of photos to his Facebook page. If you're interested in seeing vehicles from the Pumpkin Run, here are the links to Jeff's photos. Please Note: a Facebook account is required.

Here are the events scheduled for this last weekend of September. Once again it's a big one! If past history is any indication, the two biggest shows of the weekend will be the Sunbury Lions Club Country Cruise-in and the North Hills Car and Bike Show. Both are on Sunday.

NEWS AND NOTES:

Der Dutchman:

The Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio held two cruise-ins this week. Their weekly cruise-in on Thursday evening attracted 347 cars. It turned out to be a wonderful evening to hang out with friends.

Saturday morning the restaurant hosted its annual Coffee and Donuts cruise-in. More than 80 cars stopped in for a cup of coffee and a famous Der Dutchman donut. By 11 AM everyone was experiencing a pretty good sugar and caffeine buzz.

Farrow Hot Rods and Handlebars:

Saturday evening the Farrow Harley Davidson Dealership in Sunbury, Ohio hosted their second Hot Rods and Handlebars Car and Bike Show of the season. The event was sponsored by Rabid Customs, Ricart Automotive, and of course, Farrow Harley-Davidson.

The Parking lot was divided into two sections, one for the motorcycles and the other for the cars. Two food trucks and a beer garden provided refreshments. A live band (sorry, don't know the name) entertained the crowd.

Entry to the show was free for spectators and motorcycles. If you wanted your car included in the judging for a trophy, a $10 donation to charity was requested. With the $10 donation also came a 16 oz bottle of Jax Wax Hawaiian Shine, microfiber towel, and air freshener. Not a bad deal.

On the car side, there were trophies for the top 25, third and second place, and Best of Show. I believe there were three awards for the motorcycles.

The car registration forms were not numbered so I don't have an accurate count of registered cars. I'm guessing somewhere around 100 cars with another 50 that showed up but didn't register. All I can say about the bikes is there were a lot of them! I didn't spend much time in the bikes section. There was a lot to keep up with the cars. I did, however, discover (as did many others) a "Legends of Rock" themed bike that was absolutely amazing. You'll have to check it out on the show's PHOTO PAGE. Let me know how many rock legends you can name.

Here are the top three award winners from the show:

Coughlin Chevrolet of Pataskala Car Show:

Coughlin Chevrolet of Pataskala, Ohio held its 12th annual car show on Saturday. Advertised as "Ohio's Best Free Car Show", the event registered close to 200 cars.

The show attracted mostly Corvettes with maybe 40-50 cars being other makes and models. Trophies were presented to the Top 100 cars. There was no Best of Show award.

To see more from the Coughlin show, check out the show's PHOTO PAGE.

All Oldsmobile Car Show and Swap Meet:

On Sunday, the Mid-Ohio Chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America held their 34th Annual All Oldsmobile Car Show and Swap Meet at Quaker Steak and Lube in Columbus, Ohio.

The club registered 75 Oldsmobiles. Trophies were presented to the Top 20 cars as voted on by those participating in the show.

Even though I don't own an Oldsmobile, the first car my wife and I bought as a married couple was a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme so I have a little soft spot in my heart for the brand. Unfortunately, I only saw one 1977 Cutlass. It was a 442 not a supreme.

Other Area Shows:

Reports are the Jax Wax Car Show on Saturday registered close to 400 cars. Steve Andrix and his 1954 Chevy Bel Air received the Best of Show award.

The turn out for Pepsi's Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride at Columbus Auto Resale on Saturday was between 50 and 60 cars.

The Cupola Classic Car Show in Johnstown, Ohio on Sunday had 160 cars in attendance.

If you have any information on other shows in the area from this past weekend, please feel free to post it in the comments section.

A much lighter schedule this week as the 2020 season starts to wind down.

Looking forward, next Saturday (October 17) has 10 events so far on the schedule. After that, things start to taper off dramatically as the season comes to a close.

News and Notes:

I received an email this week from a reader that there will be a Powell Cruise-In and Pig Out this year. It won't be a downtown show as in past years. It will be held in the empty field just west of Auto Assets. The show is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, and is limited to 100 vehicles so you must register ahead of time. This link will take you to the registration form.

Colo's Classic Car Show on Saturday at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was 100 short of my prediction of 1000 registered cars. Despite missing the thousand mark, it still ends up being the largest car event in central Ohio this year.

Saturday's show also marked the 600th event for the Pepsi Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride series. Congratulations to Boots and his team for achieving this big milestone!

The Hot Rods and Handlebars show Saturday evening at AD Farrows in Sunbury, Ohio got some glowing reviews. Someone posted on Facebook that it was one of the best shows they had been to all year.
