As we move into the middle of August, the calendar remains packed with events, especially on Saturday and Sunday, in addition to the many weekly cruise-ins and bike nights throughout Central Ohio. Some of this week’s highlights include the Vance Outdoors Car Show in Obetz benefiting Honor Flight Columbus, the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival Car Show, the Igniters Rod Run & Car Show in Chillicothe, and the Larry Coolidge Memorial Cruise-In, formerly known as the Powell Cruize-In & Pig Out.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It’s amazing how just a few degrees can affect attendance. Last week, with temperatures in the low 80s, more than 500 vehicles filled the Der Dutchman Cruise-In. This week, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 80s, attendance dropped to 279 vehicles. Even so, that’s still a turnout most events would be thrilled to have.

The variety and quality of vehicles on hand were once again outstanding. Here are some of the evening’s highlights, captured through the combined photos of Jeff Shankle and yours truly.

Hosanna Church Car Show:

Thanks to pop-up rain showers that moved through the area Friday afternoon, the 13th Annual Hosanna Church Car Show in Pataskala was a shell of its former self compared to last year. In 2025, the parking lot was bulging with 135 vehicles. This year, thanks to the rain, attendance barely made into the 20s. But as they say in the entertainment business, “The show must go on,” and that it did.

Jeff Tolley’s 1965 Chevy C-10 pickup received the People’s Choice Award, while Dave O’Brien’s 1982 Chevy C-10 pickup was selected Best of Show.

Among the other award winners were Mark and Mary Lester, whose 1967 Chevy Camaro took home the Best of the ’60s award.

Central Ohio’s summer car season continues at full throttle this week. Headlining the schedule is the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Columbus Auction at the Ohio Expo Center, bringing one of the nation’s premier collector-car auctions to Columbus for the first time.  

The week also features the always-popular London Cobra Show, the London Strawberry Festival and its related bike, car, and Jeep shows, plus the welcome return of the Westgate Park Bean Dinner Car Show. With something happening nearly every day, enthusiasts will have no shortage of places to spend time with friends and admire some outstanding vehicles.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The evening was a little breezy, but otherwise provided great weather for the cruise-in. Attendance reflected those favorable conditions, with 371 vehicles on hand compared to 257 the previous week — an increase of 114 cars. There were also 13 first-time participants this week.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District EMS added a little extra excitement during the evening. Fortunately, the individual who required medical attention was feeling better and did not have to leave the cruise-in.

Two vehicles stood out during the evening. The first was this beautifully restored brass-era Hudson touring car, which garnered a great deal of attention and offered spectators a glimpse into the early days of the automobile.

The second was this heavily modified Chevrolet S-10 street machine, featuring a massive roots-style supercharger, race-inspired interior, and enough attitude to get everyone’s attention as it rolled into the cruise-in.

Next week is the annual London Cobra Show. If the weather is good, the cruise-in could showcase 50 to 60 Cobras during the evening. It’s always one of the most anticipated nights of the season and a rare opportunity to see so many Cobras gathered in one place.

Finally, some sad news to report. Longtime Der Dutchman Cruise-In participant Kenny Davis passed away on Saturday, June 13.

Many of you will recognize Kenny by his white Pontiac, which was a regular fixture near the pavilion each week. He will be missed by his friends and fellow enthusiasts in the Central Ohio car community.

Danbury Car Show:

The Danbury Senior Living Center on Snouffer Road in Columbus hosted its 3rd Annual Car Show on Friday. With near-perfect weather, the event enjoyed its best attendance yet, attracting more than 30 vehicles.

Show participants and residents were treated to live music featuring hits from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

Danbury also provided a terrific lunch that included barbecue ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, chips, and a choice of water or soda.

As a thank you for sharing their vehicles with the residents, every participant received a complimentary goody bag.

The combination of classic cars, good food, great music, and beautiful weather made for an enjoyable afternoon for both participants and residents alike.

Saturday’s weather forecast forced the postponement of at least four events, including the Darana (National Trail Raceway) Test ‘n Tune. Fortunately, the rain held off just long enough for several Cars and Coffee meet ups to go on as planned.

Here are some of the cars that risked getting wet at Springfield Cars & Coffee, hosted at Mershon’s.

Thirty-seven miles to the east, Marysville Cars & Coffee kicked off its season at C&N Motor Cars.

Cruisin' with the King:

On Saturday evening, the Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club kicked off its 45th year of monthly car shows at Burger King in Marysville, Ohio.

On the positive side, most of the rain showers had moved through the area by show time. Unfortunately, temperatures took a sharp nose dive, dropping into the upper 40s by 8 PM. Between the earlier rain and the unseasonably cold conditions, turnout was light, with just 21 cars in attendance, including 18 that officially registered.

Here are some of the rides the braved the rain and cold to attend the first Cruisin' with the King show of the season:

Bikes, Hot Dogs and Slot Car Racing:

RedFrog Classics Auto Repair in Westerville, Ohio played host to the Columbus Area Vintage Motorcycle Club (CAVMC) on Saturday afternoon for a laid-back gathering that featured hot dogs, slot car racing, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the shop. Events like this continue to highlight the strong sense of community within the local vintage motorcycle scene. Thanks to Tim McGeehan for sharing a great set of photos from the afternoon.

Kickstands & Octane:

Despite chilly temperatures, the first Kickstands & Octane meet-up of the season saw a solid turnout on Sunday. The new weekly gathering will rotate between Grumpy’s Coffee Garage and Main Ground Coffee, both located in Groveport, Ohio, giving local motorcycle enthusiasts a regular spot to connect throughout the season. Thanks to Kelly Cossin for sharing her photos from the event.

Import Face-Off:

At the Import Face-Off, Bling Amobi Breezy and the StreetKingz crew made a strong statement with an impressive showing across multiple classes. Bling Amobi’s “VetteZilla” stood out among a field of high-level builds, taking home both Best Domestic and Best Install honors.

StreetKingz also secured the Largest Club award, reinforcing their growing presence at regional events. Several other club members added to the trophy count, with awards going to Best Euro, Best Truck, Best Stance, and a Second Place finish in Best Import.

By all accounts, it was another successful outing for the group.

Cars for Cancer Car Show:

The Cars for Cancer Car Show held on April 12 and hosted by Steak ’n Shake in Lancaster, Ohio, turned out to be a huge success.

Organized as a senior project by Caleb White and Finnley Quickert, the grassroots event drew an impressive 113 vehicles, helped in large part by beautiful spring weather and the fact that it was the only judged, trophy-awarding show in the area on Sunday. Proceeds from the event will benefit The James Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The 1967 Mercury Cougar owned by Mark Weldy was selected as Best of Show.

The People’s Choice Award went to Dale Pearce and his 1967 Corvette Stingray convertible.

Here are some of the other great rides that came out for the show. Thanks to Jeff Tolley and Bryan Mauger for sharing their photos.

Licking County Cars and Coffee:

The first Licking County Cars and Coffee of the season, held around the Courthouse in downtown Newark, Ohio, also benefited from the beautiful Sunday weather, drawing an estimated 150+ cars to the event.

Heart of Ohio Antique Center Cruise-In:

The Heart of Ohio Antique Center cruise-in season got underway this week, with the first event of the year postponed a week due to Easter falling on the previous Sunday. The cruise-in drew a solid turnout, with an estimated 80–100 vehicles on display.

Thanks to Jeff Shankle, here are some highlights from Sunday afternoon, showcasing a strong mix of vehicles that helped kick off the season in style.

Overall, this week’s events made it clear that the car show and cruise-in season is heading into full swing. After a long winter hibernation, the pent-up desire to get out and attend shows and cruise-ins was clearly on display this week, especially on Sunday.

Looking ahead, next Saturday’s busy schedule should keep the momentum going, and I expect next week’s News and Notes to be packed with cars and activity.

If anyone attends the Import Face-Off next Sunday, I would love to hear your feedback and of course post some photos from the event.

Spring is officially here, and that means the start of car show season in Central Ohio. The first week of April also kicks off the weekly car and bike listings on carshowtalk.com, running all the way through October. Things typically ease in at first, but by mid-May count on the schedule being packed.

This week’s lineup features a few Cars & Coffee meetups, a swap meet, a park-and-chill, and the first cruise of the season. Time to get those vehicles dialed in—it’s finally time to get out and enjoy the spring weather and reunite with your car buddies.

Miller Spring Swap Meet & Car Show:

A windstorm on Friday that knocked out power and even flipped over porta-potties—combined with chilly temperatures that only reached the low 40s on Saturday—didn’t stop the Spring Miller's Swap Meet and Car Show from taking place at the Ross County Fairgrounds in Chillicothe on Saturday, March 14th. The event drew more than 120 vehicles, setting a new spring attendance record.

Here are a few more beautiful rides that braved the chilly temperatures to make it out to the Miller's swap meet and car show.

Delaware Area Vintage Motorcycle Group:

Several Sunday's in March brought just enough good weather for the Delaware Area Vintage Motorcycle Group to gather at Coastline Coffee in Delaware, Ohio.

On one of those Sundays, the lineup expanded beyond two wheels, as several Morgan sports cars joined the group, adding an extra layer of vintage charm to the meet-up.

Springfield Cars & Coffee:

Springfield Cars & Coffee held its first meet of the season Saturday at Mershon’s World of Cars in Springfield. Despite the chilly early morning temperatures, there was a good turnout to kick off the season.

On a side note, I came across a photo this week showing an empty showroom at Mershon’s. From what I’ve been able to find, the original owner sold the dealership in 2025 after more than 40 years in business. It’s now transitioning to new ownership who has a background in the exotic and luxury car market, so what it ultimately becomes is still up in the air.

That uncertainty also raises questions about the future location of Springfield Cars & Coffee and whether the group will continue to be able to use the dealership as its regular monthly meeting spot.

It’s a short News and Notes this time around, but not unexpected given the unpredictability of March weather in Ohio. Things will be heating up—literally—before we know it.

Final Der Dutchman Cruise-In of the Season:

The Der Dutchman Cruise-in kicked off the season in the rain and, fittingly, wrapped it up the same way. The skies opened up around 3 PM Thursday and didn’t let up until after 6. Even so, about 139 cars showed up—quite the improvement over the 15 that braved the soggy first cruise-in of the year. The weather may have been a headache this season, but it was still a fun and successful five-month run. No doubt I—and probably a few other regulars—will go through a little Thursday night withdrawal until cruise-ins fire back up again next May.

Honda Marysville Motorsports Bike & Car Night Meetup:

The final Honda Marysville Motorsports Bike & Car Night Meetup of the season drew more cars than motorcycles this past Friday.

As always, attendees enjoyed complimentary food courtesy of the Triple P Barbecue food truck. This month’s raffle featured standout prizes, including two electric bicycles and a $100 gift card. One of the lucky winners was Tim Inscho, who walked away with both an electric bike and the gift card. All proceeds benefited Impact 60.

Friday Night NAPA Cruise-In:

A little over 20 cars rolled into Arch Mayer’s Friday Night NAPA Cruise-In in Hilliard, Ohio. The evening wrapped up around 8 PM as the daylight faded, but not before plenty of great conversations and chrome-shining moments. Classic cars always look their best under the sun, but they still brought plenty of smiles as dusk settled in.

Andon's Pub Cruise In Night:

More than twenty cars turned out this past Tuesday for the inaugural Andon’s Pub Cruise-In Night—a great start for what could become a popular gathering spot for local car enthusiasts.

Longtime members of the Central Ohio car show scene might remember the location as the former On The Rocks sports bar. Back then, Mike Mitchell organized two well-attended shows a year at the venue.

It’s nice to see car events returning to this familiar spot. Whether this becomes a recurring event or a once-in-a-while gathering, it’s clear there’s still plenty of enthusiasm in the community.

Bickford at Bexley Car Show:

The Bickford at Bexley Assisted Living and Memory Care facility held its annual 50s celebration on Thursday, bringing a fun and nostalgic atmosphere to residents and guests alike. The event featured classic 1950s music, décor reminiscent of the era, and even a few poodle skirts worn by enthusiastic staff members. 

This year’s event featured a small car show, adding a special touch to the festivities. Residents had the opportunity to vote for their favorite vehicle, and at the end of the show, trophies were awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.

Third place went to Dale Pearce’s beautifully restored 1967 Corvette Stingray Convertible.

Second place was awarded to Rodney Daniel’s striking 1940 Studebaker Commander.

Taking home First Place, with the most resident votes, was Dale Pearce’s classic 1950 Chevy 3100 Pickup — driven to the show by Anthony Musick on Dale’s behalf, earning Anthony a share of the recognition.

Participants in the show were treated to pizza and delicious root beer floats.

The event was a fun way to showcase classic cars and give residents a chance to connect and vote for their favorites. 

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Attendance at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio, jumped from 170 the previous week to 208 this week, despite afternoon temperatures soaring into the low 90s.

As usual, something unique or unusual shows up each week — and this week was no exception.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Scattered afternoon thundershowers put a damper on Thursday’s cruise-in, with attendance topping out at around 149 cars.

Creative Auto Group/Advance Auto Parts Car Show:

The Creative Auto Group held its monthly car show on Friday evening at the Advance Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio. Despite a modest turnout of 12 registered vehicles, the event delivered plenty of classic charm and community spirit.

The 50/50 raffle raised $50 for the local food pantry—thanks to the generosity of Rex Dillon, who donated his winning half of the pot back to the cause.

Award honors went to two standout entries:

Bruce Pawley with a 1967 Chevy Camaro RS

Gary McDowel with his 1967 Chevy Chevelle

Next month's show will on Friday, August 8th.

Destination Outlets Cars & Coffee:

Despite the heat, Cars & Coffee at Destination Outlets drew Over 15 vehicles Saturday morning. There was everything from classic muscle to modern performance on display.

Attendees were treated to free coffee courtesy of The Bear Den storefront inside the mall, helping keep the energy up even as temperatures climbed. The event continues to grow in both size and variety, thanks to strong support from area enthusiasts.

This month’s gathering saw members of both the Greater Dayton Corvette Club and Lancaster Corvette Club in attendance, as well as a good turnout from local regulars. A special surprise came in the form of a Hoonigan-branded ride, adding a little extra edge to the mix.

Cars & Coffee at Destination Outlets is held every 2nd Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — the next one will be Saturday August 9th.

If you felt like braving the early April temperatures to hang out around cars and your car buddies, then Circleville, Ohio was the place to be this past weekend.

On Friday evening, the Roundtown Cruisers Car Club held its first Summer Cruise Night of the season in downtown Circleville. The cruise-in had 50 cars in attendance. There were door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and several sponsors' choice awards.

Saturday evening the season opener of Take Back the Strip Cruise took place. Some 500 cars cruised north and south on Court Street in Circleville. The event raised $1200 for the Circle Area Humane Society.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, used the cruise for the maiden voyage of his Ole Yeller pickup truck.

Donald Sparks posted a video on his Go4Rider YouTube channel from Saturday morning's Springfield Cars and Coffee.

Empty Pockets Cruisers Trunk or Treat Car Show:

The Empty Pockets Cruisers Car Club held their 8th Annual Trunk or Treat Show on Saturday at the Hilliard Presbyterian Church in Hilliard, Ohio.

The Empty Pockets Trunk or Treat event has always been one of my favorite shows to attend. And Saturday's show was no exception. Everyone seemed to be in the Halloween spirit. It felt like more cars came decorated this year than in past years. And more folks came dressed in costumes.

Despite the early morning rain, wet roads, and cool temperatures, the show managed to register more than 140 cars.

Plaques were awarded to the Favorite 40 cars and trucks and best costumes. The special awards included Best Decorations, Sponsors Choice, Church Choice, DJs Choice, and Kids Choice.

While the Trunk or Treat show is always fun, it can also be a little bittersweet because it signals the coming end to the car show season.

Delaware Christian Church Car Show:

The Delaware Christian Church in Delaware, Ohio hosted their first-ever car show on Saturday. The Church registered around 55 cars. Registration and food were by donation. Dave Bratton, who attended the show, said there were a lot of cars he hadn't seen before. Dave participates in a lot of shows in Central Ohio so he is familiar with a lot of cars from around the area.

The Church presented spark plug trophies to their "Favorite" 15 cars along with trophies for the Best Bike and Pastor's Choice.

The Pastor's Choice award went to Cameron Striblin and his 1987 Ford F-150 Lariat. A 2021 Honda Trike received the Best Bike award.

St. Elizabeth Church Community Festival Car Show:

The St. Elizabeth Church off Sharon Woods Blvd. in Columbus, Ohio held its combined festival and car show on Sunday afternoon.

The Festival offered food and drink, games, and live music. The car show gave out dash plaques to the first 30 cars and also included a 50/50 raffle. The car show registered 60 vehicles.

The Church presented 25 Parish Awards. The special awards included a Pastor's Choice, Peoples Choice, two Parishioners Choice, and a Best of Show. In lieu of a trophy or plaque, the special award winners received a printed certificate and a $25 Walmart gift card.

Other Area Events:

  • Around 50 cars turned out at the Car Show for the Salvation Army Toy Drive on Saturday in Heath, Ohio. The show presented awards to the Top 20 cars. There was no Best of Show.
  • Saturday Nite Cruise at Nik Fixx Automotive with the C-Town Cruisers had roughly 30 cars. The Best of Show pick was a 1965 Ford Falcon convertible. I don't know the owner's name and I only have photos of the car's rear-end.
  • More than 50 cars showed up in Marysville, Ohio on Saturday evening for the last Mid Ohio Cruisers Cruisin' with the King show of the year. Next show will be the Snow Ball Cruise in January.
  • The Fourth of July Car Show at the Union County Fairgrounds was rescheduled this year from July 4th to October 16 and relabeled The Autumn Car Show. The show only attracted 22 cars on Saturday. The organizers might want to consider going back to July 4th in 2022.
  • About 23 cars attended the Coffee, Tea, and Autism Trunk or Treat event in Canal Winchester, Ohio on Sunday. Of course the kids picked a Cookie Monster themed car to win. Duh?
