Another month of car shows and cruise-ins will be in the books after this weekend. Five months down only four more to go in the 2021 season.

This week the schedule for Saturday isn't as heavy as it has been the past few weeks, and there's a little more variety to choose from on Sunday.

NEWS AND NOTES:

A Thursday evening + nice weather = lots of cars at Der Dutchman. This past week saw attendance at the cruise-in in Plain City, Ohio reach 374 cars.

The highlights from the evening were a gorgeous resto-moded 1967 Camaro with an LS3 engine dropped in it and a white and chrome Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Another cool thing at Der Dutchman was the license plate collection of Kerry Rich. Kerry has a license plate for every year one has been issued by the state of Ohio. His father started the collection and Kerry has continued it.

The Blackwing Shooting Center in Ostrander, Ohio held its 7th Annual Summer Blast Car Show on Saturday. The show registered 91 cars with a few more showing up but not registering. The awards were an engraved Yeti Mug. I didn't realize that's what they were presenting for awards or I would have taken some photos of them. It's not often the music at a car show has to compete with the sound of gunshots.

To see the vehicles that received an award and other cars from the Blackwing Summer Blast, click here.

I received a report that the Battle of the Brands hosted by the GTO Association of Central Ohio at the Big Walnut Grill in Sunbury, Ohio set a new attendance record Saturday. The show registered somewhere in the neighborhood of 240 cars and could have had more but had to turn cars away because there were no more parking spaces. If you have any information on this show, please feel free to post in the comment section.

Jax Wax Street Madness is exactly what it turned out to be Saturday evening. There was a line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot when I arrived at 7:00 PM and a line of cars still waiting to get in when I left at 8:30 PM. There were too many cars to count, but I bet close to a thousand showed up for the event.

It was generally a younger crowd in attendance. There were Lots of Mustangs, Challengers, older Corvettes, and Japanese manufacturers. Not many classic cars. Some car owners had more money invested in speakers and amplifiers than they did in their cars. Air bagged suspensions seemed to be the norm Saturday evening.

.

Click Jax Wax Street Madness for more photos from the event.

Dave Bratton was kind enough to send photos from the Dick Marsh Memorial Car Show that to took place in Newark, Ohio on Sunday. The event registered around 100 cars. Best of Show went to Jimi Marshall and his 1960 Cadillac Eldorado.

And finally, congratulations to Brian Thompson for receiving the Larry Bickers Memorial Award at the C-Town Cruisers Saturday Night Cruise at Nik Fixx Automotive Show.

I'm still adding events for August, September, October, and November. For the most up-to-date list of car events in Central Ohio from now until November, check out the Save the Dates for 2021 page.

Another HUGE week of car events in Central Ohio. No less than 20 events on the schedule for Saturday.

The marquee events this week will be Jegs Speed Week at National Trail Raceway, The Performance Charity Car Show in downtown Delaware, and Ohio Car Shows & Cruise-Ins Facebook Group Show in Mount Vernon.

UPDATE: The Performance Charity Car Show scheduled for Saturday in downtown Delaware, Ohio has been canceled because of weather. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

NEWS AND NOTES:

After a two-year absence, Chesrown Chevrolet, Buick, GMC in Delaware, Ohio was back with a cruise-in Thursday evening. The event drew more than 100 cars and dozens of spectators.

Food trucks provided refreshments, and the crowd of cruisers and spectators enjoyed music from The Conspiracy Band. Best of all the rain stayed away during the cruise-in.

For more from the Chesrown Cruise-In, click here.

The July Creative Automotive/Advanced Auto Parts Show in Marysville, Ohio registered 27 cars on Friday. The show raised $115 for the Trinity Chapel Food Pantry in Milford Center, Ohio. The four award winners this month were:

Our friend, Dale Pearce, and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup had another good weekend. Dale's truck took the Best Truck award at the second annual Average Dude's Nationals hosted by the C-Town Cruisers on Saturday. On Sunday, his truck received the Peoples Choice Award at the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club Show. The Yacht Club registered 45 cars. Not bad considering the weather on Sunday.

The Average Dude's Nationals Best of Show winner was Charlie Seymour of Chillicothe with a 1967 Nova SS.

Those of you that spend time on Facebook have probably seen lots of photos from the Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals held at the Ohio Expo Center this weekend. Rumor has it Jeff Shankle has been diagnosed with a severe case of camera phone finger after taking 450 photos at the event. Jeff was last seen icing his hand.

I won't bombard you with more photos from Goodguys, but I would like to point out something awesome that happened there this weekend. If you've ever attended an Empty Pockets Cruisers show, you may have seen Valeria Dresbach running around. She's an active member of the club and plays an important role in making their shows run smoothly. A big shout-out goes to Valeria's mom, Julie Hendrix, and her husband Dave Miller. Their 1971 Oldsmobile 442 won the Goodguys Restored Award. Congrats!

Events for July, August, September, and October are still being announced. For the most comprehensive list of future car events in Central Ohio, check out the Save the Dates for 2021 page.

We close out another month of the season this week. Lots of events are on tap for the Fourth of July weekend. The big event will be the Firecracker July 4th Show in Urbana, Ohio. It will draw between 400 and 700 cars depending on the weather.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The First Friday event in downtown Delaware, Ohio is reserving the same block again this weekend for classic cars. Cars are asked to arrive between 5 PM and 6 PM. No cars will be allowed in after 6 PM, and no cars will be allowed to leave prior to 9 PM. This is first come first serve so if you're interested in participating, get there early.

The cruise-in at the Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio had another big Thursday evening. Close to 60 Cobras from the Cobra Show in London, Ohio showed up at the cruise-in. Overall attendance for the evening topped 390 cars.

To see more photos from Thursday's Der Dutchman Cruise-In, click Here.

Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smart Radio crew hosted the first-ever car show at The Point at Otterbein in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday. The show registered 57 cars.

One of the unique things offered by The Point was a canvas print of your vehicle from a favorite photo for $20. Our good friend, Dale Pearce, took advantage of the offer and had a print made of his truck. The end result turned out fantastic.

The Best of Show Award went to Jeff Fortner and his 1971 Buick GSX. Jeff's Buick has been on a "Hot Steak" lately. This is the third week in a row his car has received a well deserved top award.

If you've ever been to an Auto Smarts Radio show, you know Boots gives out a lot of "Category" awards. Click here to see some of the "Category" winners from the show.

Here are attendance numbers for some of the other area shows from this past weekend.

  • Surgergrove (Friday) - registered 80 cars
  • Marengo Methodist Church (Saturday) - registered 43 cars
  • Whitehall Church of the Nazarene (Sunday) - registered 60 cars.

Events are still filling in for July, August, September, and October. For the most comprehensive list of future car events in Central Ohio, check out the Save the Dates for 2021 page.

We start the fourth month of the season this week. Two car shows in Marion, Ohio and two Columbus Cars and Coffee meets highlight this weeks list of events.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The weather during the first part of the Memorial day weekend played havoc with a number of events. Several were canceled or postponed. Those events that did brave the rain and cold temperatures obviously had less turn out than expected.

One of those shows that braved the weather on Saturday was Pepsi’s Auto Smarts Cruise and Ride at Ten Pin Alley in Hilliard, Ohio. Our friend Dale Pearce and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup truck took the Best of Show award.

With improving weather on Sunday, the Moonshine Festival Car, Truck and Bike Show in New Straitsville, Ohio registered 83 vehicles. The car show associated with the swap meet in Springfield, Ohio had 45-50 cars in attendance.

With almost Ideal weather by Monday, Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers registered 120 cars at the American Legion Southway Post 144 Memorial Day Meet in Columbus. A lot of cars showed up at the event but didn’t register. By all guestimates there may have been close to 200 cars at the Southway Post Monday afternoon.

The Best of Show award went to Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC 40.

Just when you thought June couldn’t get any busier, four more events were announced last week. This makes the total number of June events in Central Ohio at 47 right now not counting the on going shows and cruise-ins.

It's another good week of Central Ohio Car events.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The weather couldn't have been any better this past weekend and it showed in attendance. As someone said, Central Ohio finally had a spring this year instead of going directly from winter into summer.

Der Dutchman had another strong showing. More than 270 cars turned out for the Thursday cruise-in at the restaurant in Plain City, Ohio.

Friday evening in Marysville, Ohio, The Creative Automotive/Advanced Auto Parts monthly show registered 29 vehicles.

The show raised $173 for the Milford Center Trinity Chapel Food Pantry.

Here are the cars that received awards this month:

Overflow parking was needed for the Empty Pocket Cruisers Armed Forces Day Show on Saturday afternoon. The club registered 178 cars at the VFW Post 4931 in Columbus, Ohio.

The Most Patriotic Award went to Frank Deering and his 2000 Corvette. The 1953 Chevy 3100 pickup truck belonging to Dean Maisenbacher received the Best of Show award.

For more photos from the Armed Forces Day Show, Click Here.

Larry Waters was kind enough to send some photos from the Harvey West Memorial Cruise-In at Alumcreek State Park beach on Saturday. Approximately 50 cars turned out for the event.

The 1948 Chevy Pickup owned by Sam and Barbara Parks in the bottom photo was built by Harvey West.

The Mid Ohio Cruisers hosted their second show of the season at its new Burger King location off State Route 31.

The club registered 72 cars, however, closer to 90 cars showed up during the evening. The Burger King doesn't have an abundance of parking so there was some concern as to where all the cars were going to park. The club did a good job of spreading the cars to part of the lot at Turkey Hill next to Burger King, and the street and daycare facility behind the restaurant.

The Hilliard Historic Village at Weaver Park in Hilliard, Ohio was the venue for the inaugural Conkey Classic Car Show on Saturday. The show registered 65 cars. The show presented eight awards from Shiniest Wheels, Kids Choice, to Best Exterior. All voting was done using a QR code through a smartphone (interesting). All proceeds from the show went to the Conkey Charity for Covid Victims. Congratulation to Tim Foremen and his 2016 Camaro SS convertible for winning the Best Exterior award.

Cruis'in the O'Reilly Auto Parts on Harrisburg Pike in Columbus is the final show in this week's News and Notes report. Approximately 60 cars participated in the show on Sunday. Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC 40 took home the Best of Show award.

Car show and cruise-in announcements slowed a little last week. Despite the slow down, the Save the Dates for 2021 page still has the most comprehensive list of Central Ohio car events for the 2021 season.

There's a little more local activity this week. For those of you who can't wait until the weekend to get your car show fix, good news, you're going to start seeing events on weekdays from now until October.

NEWS AND NOTES:

I didn't attend the pre-cruise-in dinner at Der Dutchman in Plain City on Thursday, but I heard attendance was very good.

Shannon Rusell's car was parked under the canopy in front of the restaurant to honor him. Shannon recently passed away. He was a regular attendee of the cruise-in from the very beginning. I'm sure many of you will recognize his car. He will be missed.

The Car and Bike Show at Tony's Bar and Grille Friday evening in London, Ohio was the only judged show in the area this past weekend. The show registered more than 50 cars. This 1959 Corvette took Best of Show honors.

A bunch of events were announced last week and added to the Save the Dates for 2021 page. Check out the page for the most comprehensive list of upcoming car events in Central Ohio.

Not much on the schedule for this second weekend of April. Next weekend will be a different story. Columbus Cars and Coffee, Auto Smarts Cruise and Ride, Mid Ohio Cruisers and the C-Town Cruisers just to name a few all have their first events of season scheduled for next weekend.

I couldn’t find anything for Sunday. If you know of event in Central Ohio on Sunday, please pass it my way.

UPDATE: The Franklin County Food Fair and cruise-in is both Saturday and Sunday. I’ve updated the listings.

News and Notes:

The Rod Knockers Car Club of Marion, Ohio held their first show of the season Saturday evening at Rural King. Because of Covid-19, the last show hosted by the club prior to Saturday was October of 2019. More the 80 cars turned out for this first show following the 17 month hiatus.

Each month this season, the club will feature a car from a past television show. April’s featured car was the 1982 Firebird Trans Am known as K.I.T.T. from the television show Knight Rider. Unfortunately, David Hasselhoff was unable to make an appearance at Saturday’s show due to a prior commitment. 😁

On a more serious note, this 1937 Ford pickup received the Club’s Choice Award for April.

For a comprehensive list of Central Ohio shows and cruise-ins through the end of the year, check out the Save the Dates for 2021 page. A good number of events were announced last week and added to the list.

UPDATE: I did get confirmation that the Knox Cars & Coffee Season Opener has been canceled. The Marysville Car Meet has been postponed until May 9th.

I promised to start the weekly Upcoming Events posts in April and I am a man of my word.

As you can see, a number of events scheduled for this weekend have been canceled or postponed as a result of the Coronavirus lockdown. I have reached out to the Knox Cars & Coffee and the Marysville Car Meet folks to confirm the status of their events. As of this writing, I have not heard back from either group. If you have any information about these meets, please post the info in the comments section.

If you do decide to venture out to either event (assuming they're still on), please use common sense and keep the recommended distance from other people.

Check out the Save the Dates for 2020 page for a list of future events that will hopefully take place once the spread of the virus slows and social distancing guidelines are relaxed.

With the start of May, I predicted that cars shows taking place in 40-degree weather would be over for a while. Boy, did this weekend make a liar out of me!

Rain and cold temperatures both Friday and especially Saturday kept a lot of cars at home. The Vintage Auto Club of Delaware, Ohio First Friday cruise-in had only 20 cars show up this month.

The good news from the evening is that our good friend, Frank Sanborn, won the 50/50 raffle and donated his half back to the club. As a result, $110 will be going to Hospice of Delaware.

I was one of only nine cars that turned out for Coffee and Cars at the Richwood Bank in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday morning. Temperatures fluctuated between 49 and 50 degrees all morning with a pretty stiff wind out of the north.
