As we move into the middle of August, the calendar remains packed with events, especially on Saturday and Sunday, in addition to the many weekly cruise-ins and bike nights throughout Central Ohio. Some of this week’s highlights include the Vance Outdoors Car Show in Obetz benefiting Honor Flight Columbus, the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival Car Show, the Igniters Rod Run & Car Show in Chillicothe, and the Larry Coolidge Memorial Cruise-In, formerly known as the Powell Cruize-In & Pig Out.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It’s amazing how just a few degrees can affect attendance. Last week, with temperatures in the low 80s, more than 500 vehicles filled the Der Dutchman Cruise-In. This week, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 80s, attendance dropped to 279 vehicles. Even so, that’s still a turnout most events would be thrilled to have.

The variety and quality of vehicles on hand were once again outstanding. Here are some of the evening’s highlights, captured through the combined photos of Jeff Shankle and yours truly.

Hosanna Church Car Show:

Thanks to pop-up rain showers that moved through the area Friday afternoon, the 13th Annual Hosanna Church Car Show in Pataskala was a shell of its former self compared to last year. In 2025, the parking lot was bulging with 135 vehicles. This year, thanks to the rain, attendance barely made into the 20s. But as they say in the entertainment business, “The show must go on,” and that it did.

Jeff Tolley’s 1965 Chevy C-10 pickup received the People’s Choice Award, while Dave O’Brien’s 1982 Chevy C-10 pickup was selected Best of Show.

Among the other award winners were Mark and Mary Lester, whose 1967 Chevy Camaro took home the Best of the ’60s award.

Dutchman Cruise-In Banquet:

Der Dutchman wrapped up another successful cruise-in season on Thursday evening with the annual end-of-season banquet. A total of 177 people signed up to attend this year’s celebration.

After dinner, Cruise-In Manager Wayne Nisly shared some fun facts comparing the 2024 and 2025 seasons:

Total Number of Cruise-Ins:

2025 - 22

Total Cars Counted for the Season:
2024 - 5,809
2025 - 4,748

Number of Rain Days:
2024 - 2 days
2025 - 4 days

Lowest Attendance:
2024 - 8 Cars
2025 - 10 cars

Highest Single-Day Attendance:
2024 - 414
2025 - 507

First Time Attenders:
2024 - 353
2025 - 259

Wayne also noted that his database now holds 2,140 names, with records purged for anyone who hasn’t attended in four years.

To close out the evening, every household received a plaque in appreciation for their participation in the 2025 cruise-in season.

The banquet was the perfect way to wrap up the 2025 season and look forward to even more great cruise-ins in 2026.

Columbus Cars and Coffee at Alum Creek Marina:

The corporate-sponsored version of Columbus Cars and Coffee switched things up this past Saturday, hosting its meet at Alum Creek Marina for the very first time. The lakeside venue was a unique choice, giving the event a fresh atmosphere that stood out from the usual spots.

With more than 200 cars in attendance, the lot was overflowing—literally—with rows of vehicles stretching into the grass.

And while the mix of cars was diverse, the morning definitely had a Porsche vibe. From Boxsters and Caymans to an impressive lineup of 911s, the brand dominated the waterfront scene.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

This week, it wasn’t the hot and humid temperatures that kept people home — it was the chance of rain showers. Still, attendance reached 110 cars, including six first-timers. Wayne decided not to have food, anticipating a lower turnout due to the forecast.


A quiet field under moody skies — the forecast kept the chrome at home this week.

Hosanna Church Car Show:

The Hosanna Church in Pataskala, Ohio held its 12th Annual Car Show on Friday evening, drawing a strong crowd and 135 registered vehicles.

Thanks to near-perfect weather, many participants arrived early, and the parking lot was nearly full by the official 4 PM registration start. (In fact, due to the early turnout, the church began registration around 3 PM to accommodate the influx.)

Cruisers and spectators enjoyed food and refreshments from Poppy’s Roadside Diner and Whit’s Frozen Custard. Registered participants received a door prize ticket, and many took part in the 50/50 raffle. Awards included Favorite Awards, Top Choice, Best of the Decade, People’s Choice, and Best of Show.

All proceeds benefited Hosanna’s Do Something Team, which supports individuals and families in need throughout Pataskala and West Licking County.

Here are the best of the Decade winners:

The People’s Choice Award went to a beautifully restored 1967 Pontiac Tempest owned by Schon Crouse.

And finally, John Pickens took home Best of Show honors with his stunning 1931 Ford Roadster.

With great weather and strong participation, the 12th Annual Hosanna Car Show was a memorable success.

Richwood Bank Coffee & Cars Cruise-In:

More than 25 vehicles turned out for Saturday morning’s Coffee and Cars Cruise-In at Richwood Bank in Delaware, Ohio.

Among the standouts were two vintage Volkswagen buses—one of which was a nostalgic nod to the 1960s—and a custom-built PT Cruiser pickup originally created for the 2005 SEMA Show.

Door prizes were raffled off at the end of the cruise-in, with the top prize featuring a bottle of Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

The next—and final—Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars of the season will be held on Saturday, September 6th.

Thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday caused less than-normal attendance at many shows scheduled for those days. The Capital City Corvette Club made the wise move to reschedule its show from Saturday to Sunday.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Ninety-degree temperatures and the threat of storms kept attendance down at last Thursday's cruise-in. Only 128 cars were in attendance. However, there were two unique vehicles out of that 128.

The first was a Tesla Cybertruck with a gloss black wrap.

The other unique car was a 1999 Cobra-Crown Vic built by Roush Industries. The car was commissioned by Ford and built for the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.

Only 18 Cobra-Crown Vics were built in 1999 and are numbered 1 to 19 skipping 13. The Cobra-Crown Vic at Der Dutchman on Thursday was number 11.

It's amazing to see what shows up each week at the cruise-in even when the weather is less than ideal.

Hosanna Church Car Show:

The Hosanna Church in Pataskala, Ohio hosted its 11th annual car show on Friday evening.

Thanks to the weather attendance was down this year. Only 32 cars were registered.

Dale Pearce and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received the People's Choice Award.

Jim Bickel's 1968 Plymouth GTX was chosen Best of Show.

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Shows at Chubby Hawaiian Grill and West Church Social:

For the second weekend in a row, Frank Russell and the Crossroads Events team hosted car shows on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday the team was back at the Chubby Hawaiian Grill in Baltimore, Ohio.

Kenny G. and his 2016 Dodge Charger Hellcat received the Veteran Owned Vehicle Award.

The Best of Show Award went to John Huber with a 1968 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

On Sunday, the Crossroads team was back at West Church Social in Newark, Ohio. Thirty-one trophies were presented at the end of the show.

The Veteran Owned Award went to Don Marcum and his 1956 Ford Crown Victoria.

The 1966 Chevy Nova belonging to Danny Simms was chosen Best of Show.

The Crossroad Events' next shows will be on Sunday, August 11th at the Lewis Center Wings & Rings.

Vettes, Rods, & Classics Charity Car Show at Creekside:

The Capital City Corvette Club made the right decision on Friday to postpone its 22nd Annual Vettes, Rods & Classics Charity Car Show from Saturday to Sunday. With no rain in the forecast, the club registered 230 cars at the Creekside venue in Gahanna, Ohio.

Registration was $15 and included one door prize ticket. If you bought 50/50 tickets as you entered the show, you received 10 tickets for $5. If you bought them at the registration table, you only received six tickets for $5. All the proceeds from the show go to support Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Speaking of the 50/50. The winning half was $440. Our good friend, Dale Pearce, had the winning ticket and generously donated all of it back to Nationwide Children's Hospital. What a kind gesture on the part of Dale.

As in past years, the band Reelin' In the Years provided "Live" entertainment from 3 to 5 o'clock. They're a great-sounding band and one perfect for a car show.

The cool thing about Vettes, Rods, & Classics is the Corvettes are in their class and judged against each other, and the same for the rods and classics. At the end of the show, there are two Best of Shows, one for the Corvettes and one for the
Rods and Classics.

This is a points-judged show. If your car is clean and presents well, you have a great chance of receiving a high point total.

There were more than 80 awards presented at the end of the show. The Rods and Classics received Award of Excellence plaques plus a Best of Show chosen from the class. Each generation of Corvette had three Award of Excellence winners along with a Best in Class. Just like the Rods and Classics, there was an overall Best in Show selected from the Corvettes.

Besides the awards of excellence and Best of Show awards, there was also a selection of Specialty and Sponsor Awards that all cars competed for. These awards started with the Mayor's Choice.

The Club Participation Award went to the Street Elite Corvette Club which had 13 members participate in the Show.

BEST OF SHOW AWARDS:

RODS & CLASSICS:

The 1954 Chevy 3100 Pickup of Barb and Pat Jackson received Best of Show for the Rods and Classics. This is the second Vettes, Rods, & Classics Best of Show award for the Jacksons. Their truck received the award in 2022.

CORVETTES:

This year's Best of Show for the Corvettes went to Jeff Irwin's 1963 Corvette Grand Sport Race Car. Jeff's Corvette received a perfect score.

Final Thoughts: With the help of a great venue, a great band, and fantastic cars, the Capital City Corvette Club put on another fun and organized charity car show. Rumor has it the club was a little short on judges but still managed to get every car judged and awards presented on time. Congratulations to the Capital City Corvette Club.
