The calendar doesn’t slow down as we turn the page to August. Another full week of car and motorcycle events is on tap to kick off the first full week of the month, with Saturday once again featuring an outstanding lineup of shows.

One of the weekend’s marquee events is Vettes, Rods, & Classics, long considered one of Central Ohio’s premier charity car shows. This year the show moves to a new date and a new venue, the Gahanna Tech Center, replacing its longtime home at Creekside in Gahanna.

Saturday’s schedule is loaded with other can’t-miss events as well, including Hot Summer Nights in Bellefontaine, Volksfest 35, The Classic Car Show in Commercial Point, and the rescheduled Ye Olde Mill Rod Run & Picnic in Utica. Those are just a few of the many opportunities to get out, enjoy the weather, and spend the day surrounded by great cars, motorcycles, and fellow enthusiasts.

UPDATE: After Mother Nature did a complete 180 from the beautiful weather we enjoyed the previous weekend, several car shows were forced to reschedule. A number of those events have been moved to this coming Saturday and Sunday, making an already packed weekend schedule even busier.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It was another big Thursday evening at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City. Thanks in part to the participation of several Corvette clubs, 538 vehicles filled the grounds.

While that was down slightly from the record-setting 561 vehicles the previous week, another milestone was reached with 41 first-time participants attending the cruise-in.

This video montage, created from the combined photos of Jeff Shankle, Bryan Mauger, Tom Lawrence, and yours truly, captures the energy, excitement, and outstanding rides that made Thursday’s cruise-in another memorable evening.

Urbana Knights of Columbus Car Show:

The Urbana Knights of Columbus hosted its 23rd Annual Car Show on Friday evening at St. Mary Catholic Church in Urbana. This year’s show attracted 88 registered vehicles. Tom Lawrence attended the show and shared photos of most of the vehicles on display.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Attendance was down just a touch from last week, but the 263 cars that rolled into Thursday evening’s cruise-in still brought plenty of variety and energy. Among them were 7 first-timers.

One of my favorite moments was having a 1959 Porsche park right next to my 2024 Porsche — a striking side-by-side of classic curves and modern lines.

Pete Lieb pulled in with his beautifully kept 1962 Dodge Dart station wagon, a time capsule on wheels.

And while there were plenty of head-turners, my pick for “most unique” of the night went to a 1995 Toyota Supra — a rare sight and a true crowd-stopper.

From vintage gems to modern marvels, it was another Thursday evening well spent with fellow car enthusiasts.

Uptown Classics Auto Show:

The Friday Night Uptown Founders Car Show returned to Marysville, Ohio on Friday evening under a new name — the Uptown Classics Auto Show. Registrations were open to vehicles 2001 and older.

Main Street was packed with people, making it difficult to move from one end to the other.

The awards ceremony wrapped up earlier than scheduled, with Best of Show going to Jeff Irwin for his 1963 Corvette Grand Sport.

No official car count was announced, but the turnout appeared to be around 100 cars.

The Charlie Baker Mound City Under the Lights Car Show:

The Mound City Little League field in Newark, Ohio, was the site of the Charlie Baker Mound City Under the Lights Car Show on Friday evening. The event drew about 70 cars.

Hi-Way Starz members Mike Marcum, Joe Estes, Justin Seymour, Dave O’Brien, and Bobby Pig all drove home with awards, while Jeff Tolley’s 1959 Chevy Biscayne earned the coveted Ed’s Sleds Pick.

What a difference a week makes. Last weekend's beautiful weather saw many shows set attendance records. Thanks to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast this weekend most events had lower than expected turnouts. At least Sunday stayed dry for most of the afternoon.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Thanks to the threat of rain, only 163 cars turned out for this week's cruise-in. There were only a few very light sprinkles during the evening. Not enough rain fell to require any wipedown of the cars.

This 2000 Lincoln Stretch Limo Town Car - Pzazza Series receives this week's Der Dutchman Unique Vehicle Award.

At the end of the cruise-in, Wayne Nisly announced the First Annual Outdoor Sing-Along scheduled for September 21 at the Der Dutchman Oak Grove. Wayne encourages cruise-in attendees to bring their cars and walk over to the event.

Cruisin' For Our Vets (Mike Mallow Memorial) Car & Motorcycle Show:

The Gordon Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Dealership in Washington Court House, Ohio was the site of the 3rd Annual Cruisin' For Our Vets (Mike Mallow Memorial) Car & Motorcycle Show on Saturday.

The Southern Ohio Buckeye Bikers hosted the show. All proceeds benefit Central Ohio Veterans. The show is also a memorial to Mike Mallow, a local veteran and avid motorcyclist who passed away from cancer in 2022.

This year the show registered 54 cars and twenty-plus motorcycles. The cars and motorcycles were divided into classes. There were 10 classes for the cars and seven classes for the motorcycles.

CAR CLASSES
MOTORCYCLE CLASSES

Each class had awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Along with the class awards, there were specialty awards for Veterans Choice Car, Veterans Choice Bike, Peoples Choice Car and Bike, Rat Class Choice, In Memory of Mike Mallow, Best of Show Car, and Best of Show Bike.

Steve Elam's entire rig received the In Memory of Mike Mallow Award. Steve also received awards for Custom Bike, Vintage Bike, and 2nd place in the truck class.

Peoples Choice Car/Truck/Jeep went to Larry and Libby Williams with a 1969 Chevy Chevelle.

Peoples Choice Motorcycle went to the 2003 Harley Davidson Sportster Custom Chopper belonging to Zack Sedlmeyer. Zack's bike also received the Veterans Choice Award for Motorcycles and 2nd Place in the Custom Motorcycle Class.

The Veterans Choice Car/Truck/Jeep Award went to Quinten Waits with a 1953 Chevy 3100 Pickup.

Karen Young's 1937 Chevy Sedan received the Best of Show Award for the cars/Trucks/Jeeps. The car also picked up 1st Place in the 20s - 30s Class.

Best of Show for the Motorcycles went to the 1952 Harley Davidson 45 Flathead Chopper owned by Jerry Mullins.

Son of Amvets Post 1776 Red, White, and Cruise:

On Saturday, the Son of Amvets Post 1776 in Logan, Ohio hosted its Red, White, and Cruise.

There were 26 registered cars.

Dr. Ron Rogers received the Top Mopar Award for his 1968 Dodge Charger.

Best of Show went to the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback owned by Ken and Thelma Farmer. Yep, it's the same Ken and Thelma Farmer whose 1957 Ford Fairlane was the featured car on last week's post.

St. Elizabeth Festival Car Show:

Unfortunately, late afternoon and evening showers in the area hurt attendance at the St. Elizabeth Festival Car Show on Saturday evening. Only 20 cars attended the show.
