The calendar doesn’t slow down as we turn the page to August. Another full week of car and motorcycle events is on tap to kick off the first full week of the month, with Saturday once again featuring an outstanding lineup of shows.

One of the weekend’s marquee events is Vettes, Rods, & Classics, long considered one of Central Ohio’s premier charity car shows. This year the show moves to a new date and a new venue, the Gahanna Tech Center, replacing its longtime home at Creekside in Gahanna.

Saturday’s schedule is loaded with other can’t-miss events as well, including Hot Summer Nights in Bellefontaine, Volksfest 35The Classic Car Show in Commercial Point, and the rescheduled Ye Olde Mill Rod Run & Picnic in Utica. Those are just a few of the many opportunities to get out, enjoy the weather, and spend the day surrounded by great cars, motorcycles, and fellow enthusiasts.

UPDATE: After Mother Nature did a complete 180 from the beautiful weather we enjoyed the previous weekend, several car shows were forced to reschedule. A number of those events have been moved to this coming Saturday and Sunday, making an already packed weekend schedule even busier.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It was another big Thursday evening at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City. Thanks in part to the participation of several Corvette clubs, 538 vehicles filled the grounds.

While that was down slightly from the record-setting 561 vehicles the previous week, another milestone was reached with 41 first-time participants attending the cruise-in.

This video montage, created from the combined photos of Jeff Shankle, Bryan Mauger, Tom Lawrence, and yours truly, captures the energy, excitement, and outstanding rides that made Thursday’s cruise-in another memorable evening.

Urbana Knights of Columbus Car Show:

The Urbana Knights of Columbus hosted its 23rd Annual Car Show on Friday evening at St. Mary Catholic Church in Urbana. This year’s show attracted 88 registered vehicles. Tom Lawrence attended the show and shared photos of most of the vehicles on display.

Charlie Baker Car Show:

On the opposite side of the CarShowTalk coverage area from Urbana, the 2nd Annual Charlie Baker Car Show took place Friday evening at the Mound City Little League fields in Newark. The event raised money for the Mound City Little League Association and attracted 62 registered vehicles.

Awards included the Top 20, Best in Class, five specialty awards, and Best of Show.

The Hi-Way Starz earned the Club Participation Award. Members Dave Byers, Jason Kenneth Sanders, Jeff Tolley, Carrie Gleckler, and Mike Marcum all received Top 20 awards. Dave O’Brien’s 1970 Dodge Coronet 500 was selected Best Mopar, while Roy Frazier took home Brenda’s Pick.

Also bringing home some hardware were Mark and Mary Lester, whose 1967 Chevrolet Camaro received Announcer Ed’s Pick.

Bubba Hettinger attended the show and shared the following photos from the event.

Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars:

The rain held off just long enough to keep the Richwood Bank Coffee & Cars Cruise-In dry from start to finish. Despite the threat of rain, 24 vehicles rolled into the bank Saturday morning to enjoy coffee, treats, and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts.

At the conclusion of the cruise-in, Richwood Bank gave away more than $300 in raffle prizes, including gift cards, car care products, restaurant discounts, and a fifth of Boone County bourbon.

Tim Incho went home with the top prize, which included the bourbon.

Here are some of the vehicles that were there Saturday morning.

Tami Thompson Car and Bike Show:

Moose Lodge #11 on Demorest Road in Columbus was the site of the inaugural Tami Thompson Car and Bike Show. All proceeds from the event benefited Tami as she continues her second battle with breast cancer.

Despite the forecast of rain, the show attracted 70 registered vehicles and raised an impressive $10,000 to help with Tami’s fight. Unfortunately, the rain did arrive during the show, but it stopped in time for the roads to dry by the end of the event.

Dale Pearce’s 1967 Corvette Stingray earned both Best of Show and Best Paint honors. But in a classy gesture, Dale decided not to take home two awards and graciously passed the Best Paint award on to another participant. Nice going, Dale!

Motors & Rotors:

There were a fair number of shows that ignored the weather forecast and took place Saturday, rain or shine. One of those was Motors & Rotors at Bolton Field in Columbus. The show did get some rain, but that didn’t stop 67 vehicles from turning out. Tom and Betty Lawrence’s 2008 Volkswagen Beetle took home the Best Import award.

Here are some of the cars, trucks, motorcycles, and planes that ignored the weatherman.

Rams & Rhinos Car Show:

The 5th Annual Rams & Rhinos Car Show took place Sunday in Marysville. Hosted by Ramsey’s Pizza & Pub and the Marysville Rhinos Rugby Club, the event raised money for the Tunnel of Towers Foundation.

The show also featured door prizes and a 50/50 raffle to help support the cause.

This year’s event attracted 35 registered vehicles. Ten Awards were presented for Best Modern, Shit Box, Classic, Band Favorite, Crowd Favorite, Modern Muscle, Import Pick, Classic Muscle, 4x4, and Ramsey’s Favorite.

The Dudley Creek Band provided a blend of country and rock music throughout the event.

The show stayed dry for the first hour before the rain moved in for about an hour, beginning around 1:00 PM. Fortunately, it stopped in time for the awards presentation, and the roads dried enough for participants to make it home without their cars becoming a total mess.

Here are the award winning vehicles.

For motorcycle enthusiasts, Ramsey’s Pizza & Pub is hosting the Qfm96 Bike Night Tour 2026 every Thursday through August 27. Based on the photos posted to Facebook from this past Thursday, it looks to be a very popular bike night, attracting an impressive turnout of motorcycles, riders, and spectators. If you’re into motorcycles and looking for something to do on a Thursday evening, it might be worth checking out.

Other Area Shows:

  • 7 Forty Auto Sales hosted its inaugural car show on Saturday. The event started under dry skies, but the rain eventually arrived, forcing the food trucks to cancel. Despite the weather, Jeff Tolley took home the Second Place award with his “Dirty Dime” Chevrolet pickup.
  • There was a break in the rain Saturday evening, allowing a good crowd of cars and spectators to attend the Hinderer CDJR Mopar Nationals Party. Not sure how the Chevy and Pontiac got in—I guess nobody was checking Mopar credentials at the gate.

Mother Nature wasn’t very cooperative this weekend. If you attended a car show on Saturday or Sunday, there was a good chance you got wet. I’m pretty sure a record was set for the number of shows postponed because of the weather. The result will be a jam-packed schedule over the next few weeks as many of those events try again.

This week’s remote reporters include Bubba Hettinger, Jeff Shankle, Dale Pearce, Dave Bratton, Tom Lawrence, Jeff Tolley, Mark and Mary Lester, and Ramsey’s Pizza & Pub. Thank you all for your time, dedication, and willingness to share your weekends with our readers.

Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.

Does rescheduled mean the date posted is the rescheduled date or it is not?
    Thx

      Hi Curtiss,

Rescheduled means the date it's listed under is the rescheduled date of the event. A lot of events were postponed to a new date but the flyers were never updated and still have the original date. Hope that makes sense.
