The Central Ohio car scene continues to be red hot for a second straight week. With events taking place every day, mowing the lawn may have to take a back seat to car or bike shows this week. Sunday is Father’s Day, and there’s no shortage of car and bike events for Dad to enjoy.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The heat got turned up for Thursday evening’s Der Dutchman Cruise-In, and apparently a bunch of Corvette owners got the memo. A total of 257 vehicles filled the lot, including 28 Corvettes ranging from classics to late-model performance machines. Among the highlights was the Top Dog of the C8 lineup and a 1,250-horsepower ZR1X that drew plenty of attention throughout the evening.

Here are more of the cars and trucks that turned out for Thursday’s Der Dutchman Cruise-In despite the oven-like temperatures.

Harry and Mary Wise Memorial Car Show:

The parking lot of the Big Walnut Grill in Sunbury was the site of the 5th Annual Harry and Mary Wise Memorial Car Show. Registration was free, although donations were accepted to support the event. This year’s show attracted 165 registered vehicles.

Among the top award recipients was Annette Lieb, whose Hemi-powered 1962 Dodge Dart station wagon, affectionately known as “Big Booty Judy,” earned one of the show’s Top 20 Awards.

Capturing the coveted Best of Show award was a beautifully restored 1959 Chevrolet Corvette.

Bryan Mauger was on hand to photograph the event and shared these images of some of the cars that participated in the show.

The Heath Taste of Summer Car Show:

If you were in Heath on Saturday, you would have found the Heath Taste of Summer Car Show tucked behind the Walmart. Presented by the City of Heath and the Heath Community Arts Council of the Davis-Shai House, the show attracted 98 registered vehicles.

Dave O’Brien took home some hardware with his 1982 Chevrolet pickup, better known as “Orange Crush.”

The Hi-Way Starz Car Club was well represented at the show, with Bubba Hettinger and a number of other members in attendance. Bubba shared these photos from the event.

Creative Auto Group/Advance Auto Parts Car Show:

The Creative Auto Group and Advance Auto Parts in Marysville held their October car show on Friday, raising $65 for the Trinity Chapel Church food pantry.

This month’s trophy winners were:

  • Rex Dillon – 1936 Dodge Sedan
  • Mel D – 1967 Ford Mustang
  • Rick Jones – 1952 Ford F2 Truck

The final show of the season will be held on Friday, November 7, which is the first Friday of November (instead of the usual second Friday).

BGMC Car Show:

The New Beginnings Assembly of God Church on Williams Road in Columbus, Ohio, hosted its 8th Annual BGMC Car Show on Saturday.

BGMC, which stands for Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge, supports missionaries around the world by providing essential resources. All proceeds from the event went toward BGMC. In addition to vehicle registration, the show also featured a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

This year’s event drew 59 registered vehicles. Trophies were awarded to the Top 40, along with special honors for Best Truck, Pastor’s Choice, Best Motorcycle, BGMC Choice, 3rd Place, 2nd Place, and Best of Show.

No motorcycles were registered this year, so the Special Award Winners were:

  • Best Truck: 1965 Chevy C-10 Stepside Pickup — Mike & Sandy Willis
  • Pastor’s Choice: 1957 Chevy Bel Air — David Elliott
  • BGMC Choice: 1973 Plymouth Duster — Dave & Jackie Hiles
  • 3rd Place: 1959 Morris Minor — Pete Fleming
  • 2nd Place: 1966 Pontiac GTO — Steve Schaeffer
  • Best of Show: 1931 Pontiac — Chip Jackson

Congratulations to all the winners and participants on another successful show supporting a great cause.

Verena at Hilliard Car Show:

The Verena at Hilliard Independent Senior Living Center held its annual car show on Thursday, and the residents had a great time checking out the classic rides.

Trophies were handed out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, based on votes from the residents.

Dr. Ron Rogers took home 2nd place with his 1950 Ford Pickup.

Jim McGruder’s Chevy Corvette Grand Sport came in 3rd place.

The big winner of the day was Jeff Shankle, whose 1954 Ford Crestline Victoria got the most votes and took 1st place.

After the show, everyone who participated enjoyed dinner in the dining room—and topped it all off with milkshakes from Swensons Drive-In.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:


The threat of rain kept attendance down to 93 cars this week at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio.

Richwood Bank Coffee & Cars Cruise-In:

More than 20 cars rolled in for Saturday morning’s Coffee & Cars Cruise-In at Richwood Bank in Delaware, Ohio — and not a single one left without a little caffeine buzz.

Greg Nobis brought his Plymouth Belvedere, dressed up to look just like Christine from the movie — thankfully, this one didn’t try to run anyone over in the parking lot.

The coffee bar served up flavored elixirs to keep everyone awake and satisfy their morning sweet tooth.

This month’s raffle prizes included car care products, a battery charger, and — for those who like their refreshment a little stronger — a fifth of Henry McKenna bourbon whiskey.

Ed Oswald walked away with the car care goodies, while Gary Wise scored the bourbon and probably a few new best friends.

Richwood Bank will be taking a pit stop in July, but the Coffee & Cars Cruise-In will be back on August 2, 2025.

Flavor 91 Bistro Car Show Saturdays:

On Saturday, Shaun “Big Dawg” Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers kicked off their car show season at Flavor 91 Bistro in Whitehall, Ohio.

Although attendance was a bit lower than expected due to the weather, spirits remained high. A light rain shower passed through midway, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the participants and spectators.

Awards were presented to the Top 30 vehicles, along with Best of Show honors.

The Best of Show Award went to Shawn Freels and his 1942 Chevy Special Deluxe.

The C-Town Cruisers will host three more shows at the Flavor 91 Bistro this season. Check out the Save the Dates for 2025 page for the dates of those shows.

Auto Show at Walmart:

Doreen Baker and her crew kicked off the season with their first show Saturday at the Walmart in London, Ohio.

They had a solid turnout with 35 cars showing up.

Tom and Betty Lawrence won the People’s Choice Award with their 2008 Volkswagen convertible.

The Best GM Award went to Dale Pearce's 1967 Corvette Stingray.

The Best of Show award went to the 1951 Chevy Bel Air belonging to Tom Corbin.

Gears for Growth Car Show:

NCS Digital, part of the Newark City School System, hosted a fundraising car show on Saturday in Newark, Ohio. The school offers digital education, providing live teaching through the Zoom application.

The event registered between 40 and 50 cars.

Scott Shepherd’s 1957 Chevy Bel Air wagon was awarded Best of Show.

Dick Ater Memorial Jaguar Jubilee Car Show 

Springfield, Ohio — The Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center hosted the Dick Ater Memorial Jaguar Jubilee Car Show on Saturday, welcoming a strong turnout of automotive enthusiasts. The event featured over 90 registered vehicles, representing a wide range of makes, models, and styles.

Students from the CTC’s automotive programs played a major role in the event’s success. They not only judged the competition, gaining valuable real-world experience, but also handcrafted the awards given to the winners. Award categories included Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Ford, Best Chevy, Best Truck, Best Mopar, Best Imports, Student’s Choice, and Best of Show.

The car show honored the memory of Dick Ater, a long-time supporter of the CTC and the local automotive community.

Larry Bray's 1969 Super Bee received the Best Mopar Award.

The Best Chevy Award went to the 1957 Chevy Bel Air belonging to Jeff Hass.

Kevin Foust's 1941 Dodge WC40 Weapons Carrier received the Best Truck Award.

The Best of Show selection went to the 1936 Ford of Keith and Karen Young.

Creative Auto Group/Advanced Auto Parts Car Show:

Twenty-one cars on Friday attended this month's Creative Auto Group/Advanced Auto Parts Car Show in Marysville, Ohio.

The show raised $150 for the local food pantry.

This month's winners were Dave Young with a 1965 Ford Mustang (1st photo), Dave Lamb's 1970 Plymouth Super Bird (2nd photo), Tim Hooten and his 1973 Chevy Nova SS (3rd photo), and Ray Leopard with a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass (4th photo).

The season's final Creative Auto Group/Advanced Auto Parts show for this year is tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 1st. Jeff Shankle is planning to head to Florida in the next week or so to help with cleanup from Hurricane Milton. Whether or not that show takes place will depend on Jeff's return from Florida. I will keep you posted.

BGMC Car Show:

Originally scheduled for September 28th, the 7th Annual BGMC Car Show at the New Beginnings Chuch in Columbus, Ohio was postponed to Saturday because of weather. It was a good decision. The show had its best attendance with 75 registered vehicles.

Along with the $15 registration, there was a silent auction and 50/50 raffle to raise money for the cause. The Church offered food and drinks to purchase.

There were a total of 54 awards presented at the end of the show. The awards included:

  • Top 40
  • 4 - Kids Favorite
  • Cleanest Engine Bay
  • Best Interior
  • Best Truck
  • Pastor's Choice
  • Best Import
  • Best Bike
  • BGMC Award
  • 2nd, and 3rd Place
  • Best of Show

The Best Interior Award went to Shawn Freels and his 1942 Chevy Special Deluxe.

This 1969 Chevy Chevelle belonging to Gunz received the Best Engine Bay award.

Russ Annis and his 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS received the Pastor's Choice Award. In all the years Russ has been participating in car shows this was his first Pastor's Choice.

Jeff Ward's 2002 Chevy S10 Lowrider was selected as the Best Truck.

The BGMC Trophy went to Cecil Kepp with a 1948 Ford Business Coupe.

The 3rd Place Award went to Mark and Patty Enyart and their 1962 Chevy Impala SS

Robert Dillard's 1933 Ford Vicky received the 2nd Place Award.

The 1934 Ford 3 Window Coupe owned by John Whittaker was selected Best of Show.

This was my first BGMC Car Show. It's up there as one of my favorite shows this year. It was well organized with a nice selection of awards. The nice weather and beautiful rides were a big plus also.

I have to start out this week's News and Notes by announcing the passing of several Central Ohio car community members.

Don Kirk passed away on October 7th at the age of 89. Many of you will recognize Don by his orange 1970 Chevy Nova. Don and his sons, Chuck and Dan, have been regulars on the Central Ohio car show scene for years. Don was still participating in car shows right up until his passing. Our condolences go out to the Kirk family.

Last year Max Spraque helped organize a car show at SVG Motors in Washington Court House to help raise money for Julie Posey. Julie was a veteran in need of a double lung transplant. Unfortunately, Julie passed away on October 10th. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Creative Auto Sales/Advanced Auto Parts Monthly Car Show:

Creative Auto Sales and the Advanced Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio hosted their October car show this past Friday.

With an evening of perfect weather, the show had 25 cars in attendance and raised $175 for the Milford Center Food Pantry.

This month the show awarded trophies to its six "Favorite" cars:

1965 Ford Cobra - Owner: Mark Larison
1965 Ford Falcon - Owner: Ron Griffith

The last Creative Auto Sales/Advanced Auto Parts show of the season with be on Friday, November 3rd. Please note this is the FIRST Friday in November instead of the usual second Friday. Jeff Shankle is leaving right after the show for warmer weather in Florida. How dare he!

Performance Charity Car Show:

It was a wet Saturday for the 29th Annual Performance Charity Car Show in downtown Delaware, Ohio.

By noon there were 150 to 160 cars in attendance. Total attendance reached 168 by the end of the show. The number of pre-registered cars was in the 260 range so a good number of people stayed home because of the rain.

Some folks got very creative trying to keep their cars dry.

Dan Varner's 1960 Cadillac DeVille received the Best Cadillac Award.

Rod Scott received the Best Mopar Award for his 1958 Dodge D100 pickup and a Top 100 Award for his 1958 Desoto Firedome Sportsman.

At the awards presentation, it was announced that the 2024 show will again be the second Saturday in October.

KSM Youth Sports Trunk or Treat:

KSM Youth Sports out of Powell, Ohio hosted its first-ever trunk or treat car show on Sunday. Proceeds from the event went to support the Cure Starts Now, a grassroots effort to cure ALL cancers.

Chad Herrick and I attended the show not sure what to expect. Turns out the show was more treat than the trunk. The organizers said they had registered around 700 kids and I believe it. I went through a 350-piece bag of candy in under an hour.

The cars that were there had decorated trunks with bowls full of candy to give out. Chad had his crew of skeletons set up. Liberty Township even brought one of its fire trucks to the event.

The show presented nine trophies, six for the cars and three for costumes. Chad went home with the Best Theme and Attendees Choice awards. All in all, it was a fun afternoon for both the adults and kids.

Car, Truck, and Bike Show @ Walmart:

Doreen Baker and company held its last show of the season on Sunday at the Walmart in London, Ohio. This last show was a trunk-or-treat Halloween theme.

There were just under 40 cars in attendance. Cadillac Mac's 2015 Ford Coyote received the Best of Show award.

Dale Pearce's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup took home the People's Choice award.

David Elliot's 1957 Chevy Bel Air and Russ Annis's 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS received Top 20 awards.

Wooden Nickel Cruise-In:

DJ Dick "Hot Dog" Ryman proceeded over the annual Wooden Nickel Cruise-In on Sunday at the Heart of Ohio Antique Center in Springfield, Ohio. An estimated 200 plus cars were in attendance.

For those not familiar with the wooden nickel, you can purchase one for a dollar at any show throughout the season when Dick "Hot Dog" Ryman is the DJ. The money collected from the sale of the nickels is then raffled off in increments at the Wooden Nickle Cruise-in at the end of the season.

This year there was a total cash giveout of $3850. There were 20 envelopes containing $100 and 37 envelopes with $50.

Other Area Shows:

Unfortunately, the rain and cold temperatures this past weekend kept attendance low at many shows.
