NEWS AND NOTES
Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
The heat got turned up for Thursday evening’s Der Dutchman Cruise-In, and apparently a bunch of Corvette owners got the memo. A total of 257 vehicles filled the lot, including 28 Corvettes ranging from classics to late-model performance machines. Among the highlights was the Top Dog of the C8 lineup and a 1,250-horsepower ZR1X that drew plenty of attention throughout the evening.

Here are more of the cars and trucks that turned out for Thursday’s Der Dutchman Cruise-In despite the oven-like temperatures.
Harry and Mary Wise Memorial Car Show:
The parking lot of the Big Walnut Grill in Sunbury was the site of the 5th Annual Harry and Mary Wise Memorial Car Show. Registration was free, although donations were accepted to support the event. This year’s show attracted 165 registered vehicles.
Among the top award recipients was Annette Lieb, whose Hemi-powered 1962 Dodge Dart station wagon, affectionately known as “Big Booty Judy,” earned one of the show’s Top 20 Awards.

Capturing the coveted Best of Show award was a beautifully restored 1959 Chevrolet Corvette.

Bryan Mauger was on hand to photograph the event and shared these images of some of the cars that participated in the show.
The Heath Taste of Summer Car Show:
If you were in Heath on Saturday, you would have found the Heath Taste of Summer Car Show tucked behind the Walmart. Presented by the City of Heath and the Heath Community Arts Council of the Davis-Shai House, the show attracted 98 registered vehicles.
Dave O’Brien took home some hardware with his 1982 Chevrolet pickup, better known as “Orange Crush.”

The Hi-Way Starz Car Club was well represented at the show, with Bubba Hettinger and a number of other members in attendance. Bubba shared these photos from the event.
Cruise-A-Palooza:
Amanda Masonic Lodge #509 and Clear Creek Valley Grange #1843 welcomed nearly 130 participants to their 8th Annual Cruise-A-Palooza in Amanda.
Thirty trophies were awarded during the event. Among the winners were Steve and Angella Boyer, whose Camaro earned a spot in the Top 20, and Jim Holland with his immaculate 1934 Ford Coupe. Dr. Ron Rogers captured the Best Chevy award with his Chevelle, while Rod Scott took home Best of Show honors with his beautifully restored 1958 Dodge Sweptside pickup.

Auto Show @ Walmart:
After the April show was canceled, Saturday marked the start of the season for the Auto Show @ Walmart in London. This first show attracted 28 registered vehicles.
Doug Glassburn took home the Best Truck award with his 1972 Chevrolet C10 pickup.

It also happened to be Melissa Siferd’s birthday, and she received an extra reason to celebrate when her 1971 Chevrolet Nova SS was selected as Best of Show.

Here are some of the other cars from the show thanks to Tom Lawrence and Doug Glassburn.
Commercial Point Homecoming & Fish Fry Car, Truck, & Bike Show:
The Annual Commercial Point Homecoming & Fish Fry Car, Truck & Bike Show was held Saturday afternoon at Scioto Elementary School. The event attracted 168 registered cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

Awards included three-foot trophies for the Top 25, Men’s Club Choice, Top 3 Motorcycles, Top 3 Trucks, five “Super Special” Awards, and 6-foot Best of Show.

Due to ongoing construction, a portion of the large grass field normally used for parking was occupied by construction equipment and torn-up ground. As a result, most participants were directed to park on the blacktop. Once those spaces filled, some vehicles were parked on the remaining grass areas.

Registration continued to be one of the show’s challenges. When I participated in the event back in 2023, I spent nearly an hour waiting in line to register. This year the process was somewhat improved, but it still took approximately 30 minutes to get through the registration line—longer than it should for an event of this size.

The awards presentation also started more than 30 minutes later than the time listed on the event flyer. With only three judges responsible for evaluating 168 cars, trucks, and motorcycles, it took longer than expected to complete the judging and tabulate the results before the awards could be presented.
Despite the hiccups with registration and the delay in presenting the awards, the show featured the highest-quality collection of vehicles I’ve seen at any car show so far this season. There wasn’t much filler in the field—just a lot of well-built, well-maintained, and beautifully presented vehicles.
Here are the top award winners from the show, beginning with the TOP THREE MOTORCYCLES:
TOP THREE TRUCKS:
The MEN'S CLUB CHOICE went to Richard Smith with a 2021 Ford Mustang GT500.

SUPER SPECIAL AWARD WINNERS:
The top honor of the show went to Bob Kirst and his 1995 Chevy Camaro.

Danville Car Show:
Dave Bratton made the 126-mile round trip to attend the Danville show on Saturday. Here’s what he had to say:
The drive to Danville was simply beautiful. There were about 90 cars in attendance, and it was obvious the Rod Masters have been organizing car shows for a long time. Everything was well run, and they handed out 51 trophies.
I didn’t see many of the usual Central Ohio cars, but I did see several vehicles I’d never seen before. One was a race-prepared Porsche 959, and another was an Avanti, one of only 125 built by Avanti Motors Corporation during the 1980s.
There were many other outstanding vehicles on display, as you’ll see in my photos. It was a long drive, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable day.
The show was hosted by Boot’s sidekick, Scott McClure.
Jerome Township Community Car Show Benefitting The Fallen 15:
The Jerome Township Community Car Show Benefiting the Fallen 15 took place Sunday along Estates Court in Plain City. The show registered just under 170 vehicles.
For those unfamiliar with the organization, the Fallen 15 is a central Ohio-based nonprofit dedicated to honoring U.S. military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. The organization also supports veterans, active-duty military personnel, and surviving family members. Their motto is “Honor | Celebrate | Inspire”.

Sunday’s event was much more than a car show. It was a family-friendly community gathering with plenty of activities for children and adults alike. Kids enjoyed a petting zoo, Jerome Township fire trucks that were open for exploration, and even a helicopter that visitors could climb aboard and experience firsthand. Food trucks and vendors lined the show grounds, providing plenty of options for attendees throughout the day.

Color Fast Automotive Paint and Dent Repair opened its shop to display photos of the Fallen 15 as well as many other service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The shop also showcased a number of vehicles from Tony Rucci’s personal collection.

Live music was provided throughout the afternoon by Driving Guitars, helping create a festive atmosphere.

Rather than focusing on competition, the show emphasized remembrance and appreciation. Fifteen awards were presented at the conclusion of the event, with the recipients selected by family members of the Fallen 15. There was no overall Best of Show or other specialty awards, making each of the 15 selections equally meaningful.
Here are the 15 vehicles chosen to receive awards:

PBE Pros & AFC Events Car & Bike Show:
The first annual PBE Pros & AFC Event took place Sunday at Coughlin Chevrolet in London. The inaugural show attracted 56 registered vehicles.
Among the award winners was Jeff Ward, whose 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Lowrider captured first place in the Best Custom Mini Truck category.

Steve Elam picked up 3rd and 1st Place Awards in the Sports Bike Category.

This 1959 Chevy Impala took home the Best of Show honors.

Tom Lawrence and Jeff Shankle were both on hand for the first-ever event and shared these photos from the show.
Other Area Shows:
- The Legion Riders Post 532 Car & Bike Show in Columbus attracted an estimated 60-plus cars and motorcycles on Saturday. One of the special awards presented during the event was the Canteen Pick, which was awarded to Mary and Mark Lester for their beautiful 1967 Chevrolet Camaro.

- The VFW Post 3320 Flag Day Car Show in Marysville welcomed 32 registered vehicles on Sunday. Among the award winners was Doug Glassburn, whose 1972 Chevrolet C-10 Stepside pickup captured the Third Place award. Taking home the show’s highest honor, Best of Show, was this stunning Pontiac GTO.

- The Snyder Park Nostalgia Cruise-In in Springfield was packed bumper to bumper on Saturday evening. The turnout was so large that, according to Jeff Shankle, it took more than 45 minutes to loop around the park looking for a parking spot.
It was another big weekend for the Central Ohio car scene, with numerous shows drawing attendance well into the triple digits. From classic muscle cars and hot rods to customs, trucks, and modern performance vehicles, there were plenty of beautiful rides on display across the region. Hopefully, everyone had the opportunity to get out and enjoy at least one of the many events taking place. Fortunately, the rain held off until Sunday afternoon, allowing most events to enjoy favorable weather and strong turnouts.
This week’s roaming reporters for CarShowTalk.com include Jeff Shankle, Tom Lawrence, Bryan Mauger, Bubba Hettinger, Mary and Mark Lester, Rod Scott, Dave Bratton, Doug Glassburn, Jeff Ward, and Kevin Foust. As always, thank you to everyone who submitted photos, results, and event information this week. Your contributions help tell the story of Central Ohio’s automotive community and make News & Notes possible.
Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.

Hi! Will you please correct the spelling of the September 12 Son Shine Car Show listing? The town is Marengo...not Marego.
Much appreciated! Thanks.
Spelling corrected.
I was wondering how the Lions Club show went on Sunday 6/14 or if it was canceled?
Hi Harry,
The show was not canceled. The Lions Club posted some photos to Facebook around 11:30 a.m., about an hour and a half after registration opened. Based on those photos, attendance appeared to be very light at that time, with only four cars visible. I haven’t seen any final attendance numbers posted, so I’m not sure how many vehicles ultimately showed up.
Thanks Kim!
I wonder why only 4, giggle giggle! Charging 35 bucks for entry is totally ridiculous, if it's over 20 there better be some good benefits for the entry. More greedy than it needs to be, completely unjustified!
The original registration fee was $50 before they dropped it to $35. If only four cars registered, that’s $140 raised. Had they charged $20 and doubled attendance to eight cars, they would have raised $160. High registration fees don’t always translate into more money for the cause if they discourage people from attending in the first place.
