NEWS AND NOTES
Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
It only took five weeks, but we finally had a Thursday evening with sunshine, summer-like temperatures, and completely dry fields for parking. The combination proved to be the perfect recipe for a turnout of 471 vehicles, including 32 first-timers, which established a new record for first-time participants at the cruise-in.
The restaurant also added a little extra fun to the evening. Free ice cream and hamburgers were awarded to the first person to arrive at the registration table wearing a Der Dutchman Cruise-In ball cap, a 2026 Der Dutchman Cruise-In t-shirt, or both. It was a simple promotion that generated plenty of interest among regular attendees.
The Volkswagen group, which postponed its gathering last week because of the wet field conditions, finally got its opportunity to meet this week. About nine Volkswagen-related vehicles turned out, adding another unique element to the evening’s lineup.

As always, the variety of vehicles on display was one of the evening’s highlights. From pristine classics and muscle cars to modern performance vehicles, hot rods, trucks, and imports, there was something to catch the eye of every automotive enthusiast. Then again, a few of the evening’s most eye-catching attractions didn’t have engines at all.

Combined with ideal weather and strong attendance, it was one of the most enjoyable Der Dutchman Cruise-Ins of the season so far. 😄

Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars:
Richwood Bank in Delaware held its first Coffee and Cars cruise-in of the year on Saturday morning.

Despite rain showers moving through the area, approximately 20 vehicles turned out for the event. Participants were treated to complimentary lemonade freezes or a beverage from the bank’s in-house coffee bar.

With the threat of severe weather looming, organizers elected to wrap up the cruise-in about 30 minutes earlier than planned but not before raffling off a variety of door prizes. Giveaways included Amazon and Advance Auto gift cards, pizza coupons, a basket of car care products with a special item designed to make cleaning that prized vehicle just a little more enjoyable.

While the weather may have limited attendance, those who braved the forecast were rewarded with good company, refreshments, and the chance to spend a few hours talking cars before the storms arrived.
Wheels for Meals Charity Car Show:
Staying in the Delaware area, Jeff Shankle left the Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars cruise-in and headed over to SourcePoint on Cheshire Road for the Wheels for Meals Charity Car Show.
Approximately 29 vehicles were on hand before rain showers and a few rumbles of thunder moved into the area.
Fortunately, Jeff’s timing was perfect. His photos showcase the show while the grounds were still dry and participants weren't running for cover from the rain.
Ashville Car & Motorcycle Show:
The Ashville Business Association’s 2nd Annual Car & Motorcycle Show was one of several Central Ohio events keeping a close eye on the weather radar Saturday afternoon.
Kudos to the show’s judges for completing their work before the storms arrived, something few other Central Ohio shows were able to accomplish. Despite the threatening weather, organizers successfully completed the awards presentation before the rain moved in.
A total of 41 participants received 19 awards.

Among the local winners were Rusty Blades, who earned a Top Ten award with his spectacular split-window Corvette.

Dave Heil, who took home Second Place with his Plymouth Duster.

Rod Scott's Dodge Sweptside pickup captured First Place honors.

Here are more cars from the show thanks to Rod Scott for sharing.
Veterans Celebration 2026 Car Show:
A brief rain shower did little to dampen spirits Saturday at the Veterans Celebration Car Show held at Fryer Park in Grove City.
Despite the unsettled weather, more than 40 vehicles registered for the event. Participants and spectators were treated to live entertainment from a Blue Grass band, while a variety of historical displays and exhibits provided plenty to see beyond the vehicles themselves.
When the awards were handed out, Dale Pearce’s beautiful 1967 Corvette Stingray claimed Best of Show honors.

The combination of classic cars, live music, and a patriotic atmosphere made for an enjoyable day celebrating both automotive history and our nation’s veterans.
Bryan Lewis Memorial Car Show:
The annual Bryan Lewis Memorial Car Show took place Saturday at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church in Hilliard. Under normal circumstances, the event attracts well over 100 vehicles, but the threat of severe weather kept many participants at home, resulting in a registration count of 44 vehicles.
Those who chose to brave the forecast were rewarded for their perseverance. After waiting out the storms that passed through the area, every registered vehicle remaining received an award plaque.

The show’s highest honor, the Bryan Lewis Award, was presented to Matt Rich and his beautiful 1981 Pontiac Trans Am.

While attendance was down from previous years, the dedication of both the organizers and participants ensured the event remained a fitting tribute to Bryan Lewis and another enjoyable gathering for the local car community, despite the challenging weather conditions.
Here are the photos Tom Lawrence took at the show before and after the rain.
Moose Lodge 1427 Classic Car Show:
Dan “Boots” Longenette and the team from Tattletale’s Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride ’26 were at Moose Lodge 1427 in Columbus on Sunday for the first of two classic car shows scheduled at the lodge this year.

The event attracted 58 registered vehicles, with all proceeds benefiting Honor Flight, an organization dedicated to transporting veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor.
Under sunny skies and summer-like temperatures, participants enjoyed a day of classic cars, fellowship, good music, and supporting a worthy cause. Here are the top award winners from Sunday’s show.
The coveted Best of Show Award went to Buddy Glassburn and his stunning 1966 Chevrolet Corvette, which is powered by a GM LSA supercharged engine.

Congratulations to Buddy and all of the award winners who helped make this first Moose Lodge 1427 classic car show of the season a success.
Here are the rest of the registered vehicles from Sunday’s event:
The Point on Main Car Show:
Shaun “Big Dawg” Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were back at The Point on Main Sports Bar for the second car show of the season at the establishment..

The event attracted 42 cars and trucks, with awards presented to the Top 35, Ladies Choice, Mopar/Rat Rod, and Best of Show winners.

Congratulations to Jeff Tolley, Dave O’Brien, Bill Mason, and Gerald Wicker on their award-winning day. Jeff’s Cadillac earned the Mopar/Rat Rod trophy, while Dave, Bill, and Gerald each received Top 35 honors. Not to be left out of the winner’s circle, Bubba Hettinger took home the 50/50 raffle prize.

A big thank you to Bubba Hettinger for sharing his photos from the show and helping capture another enjoyable afternoon with the C-Town Cruisers.
Lancaster Spring Festival Car Show and Swap Meet:
The Lancaster Old Car Club hosted is 62nd Annual Spring Festival Car Show and Swap Meet this weekend at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. Sunday's car show had 234 entries. Dave Hiles, Chuck McKeever, Steve Kidwell, and Steve Boyer took home Top 50 Awards.

Matt Hadden Memorial Car Show:
The 3rd Annual Matt Hadden Memorial Car Show, sponsored by the Urbana Cruisers Car Club, took place Sunday at the Rittenhouse Resort in Urbana.
The show is held each year in memory of Matt Hadden, a longtime member of the club and a well-known figure in the Urbana-area car community. In addition to honoring Matt’s memory, the event serves as a fundraiser supporting local causes and community projects.
Despite the weather challenges that affected many events the previous day, participants were greeted with sunshine and summer-like (hot) temperatures on Sunday. The favorable conditions helped attract an impressive 143 registered vehicles, making it one of the larger shows of the weekend.
Tom Lawrence was on hand throughout the day and captured many of the outstanding vehicles that were in attendance. Here are his photos from the 3rd Annual Matt Hadden Memorial Car Show.
That’s a wrap for this week’s News and Notes. It was a crazy weekend across Central Ohio, with car show organizers, participants, and spectators keeping one eye on the vehicles and the other on the weather radar throughout Saturday. Despite repeated rounds of rain, thunderstorms, and severe weather warnings, many events managed to carry on, proving once again that it takes more than a little bad weather to keep car enthusiasts at home.
Fortunately, Mother Nature provided a much-needed reward on Sunday. Sunshine, summer-like temperatures, and blue skies greeted participants as they headed out to cruise-ins and car shows across the region. The result was another outstanding weekend for Central Ohio’s automotive community.
This week’s contributors include Jeff Shankle, Dale Pearce, Tom Lawrence, Bryan Mauger, Jeff Tolley, Bubba Hettinger, Dave and Jackie Rolfe Hiles, and Rod Scott. As always, thank you to everyone who submitted photos, results, and event information this week. Your contributions help tell the story of Central Ohio’s automotive community and make News & Notes possible.
Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.
