The Central Ohio car scene continues to be red hot for a second straight week. With events taking place every day, mowing the lawn may have to take a back seat to car or bike shows this week. Sunday is Father’s Day, and there’s no shortage of car and bike events for Dad to enjoy.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

The heat got turned up for Thursday evening’s Der Dutchman Cruise-In, and apparently a bunch of Corvette owners got the memo. A total of 257 vehicles filled the lot, including 28 Corvettes ranging from classics to late-model performance machines. Among the highlights was the Top Dog of the C8 lineup and a 1,250-horsepower ZR1X that drew plenty of attention throughout the evening.

Here are more of the cars and trucks that turned out for Thursday’s Der Dutchman Cruise-In despite the oven-like temperatures.

Harry and Mary Wise Memorial Car Show:

The parking lot of the Big Walnut Grill in Sunbury was the site of the 5th Annual Harry and Mary Wise Memorial Car Show. Registration was free, although donations were accepted to support the event. This year’s show attracted 165 registered vehicles.

Among the top award recipients was Annette Lieb, whose Hemi-powered 1962 Dodge Dart station wagon, affectionately known as “Big Booty Judy,” earned one of the show’s Top 20 Awards.

Capturing the coveted Best of Show award was a beautifully restored 1959 Chevrolet Corvette.

Bryan Mauger was on hand to photograph the event and shared these images of some of the cars that participated in the show.

The Heath Taste of Summer Car Show:

If you were in Heath on Saturday, you would have found the Heath Taste of Summer Car Show tucked behind the Walmart. Presented by the City of Heath and the Heath Community Arts Council of the Davis-Shai House, the show attracted 98 registered vehicles.

Dave O’Brien took home some hardware with his 1982 Chevrolet pickup, better known as “Orange Crush.”

The Hi-Way Starz Car Club was well represented at the show, with Bubba Hettinger and a number of other members in attendance. Bubba shared these photos from the event.

It was another weekend with a 90% chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday and about the same on Sunday. But once again, the rain never really showed up—though not before three shows got canceled and another three were postponed.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It was a huge Thursday evening at the Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio. Not only was the restaurant packed with guests, but the cruise-in outside saw 420 cars in attendance. Thirty-seven of the 420 were first-time participants.

The Der Dutchman cruise-in is one of those rare events where you can see a Porsche, a Challenger, a Mustang, and a Volkswagen parked side by side.

Sprinkle in a ’33 Auburn, a Rolls-Royce, and a 1930s Buick, and you end up with the best variety of cars at any event in Central Ohio.

This week featured two particularly unique and unusual cars. The first was a heavily modified and nearly unrecognizable Miata, and the second was a Triumph Spitfire with a small-block engine—both set up for racing.

Whether you’re a die-hard car enthusiast or just someone who appreciates a good cruise-in, Thursday nights at Der Dutchman continue to offer an unforgettable mix of machines, memories, and community spirit.

Danbury Senior Living Car Show:

The Danbury Senior Living Center in Columbus, Ohio, hosted its second annual Car Show on Friday. The show featured just over 20 cars.

Everyone who brought a vehicle received a goody bag containing all the ingredients—minus the meat—to make a spaghetti dinner.

In addition to the goody bag, participants were treated to lunch, which included barbecue ribs and chicken, potato salad, chips, and a beverage.

The event offered a fun and flavorful afternoon for car enthusiasts and residents alike.

Creative Auto Group/Advance Auto Parts Car Show:

The Creative Auto Group/Advance Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio, hosted its June Car Show on Friday evening. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t kind to the event—only six cars braved the steady drizzle to attend. However, the show still managed to raise $40 for the Milford Center Food Pantry.

One positive outcome of the rain was that it gave everyone a chance to hang out inside the Advance Auto Parts stockroom and shoot the breeze.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

As many of you already know by now, Der Dutchman set a record in attendance last Thursday with 617 cars! Of those 617, 89 were first-time participants in the cruise-in.

The cruise-in was a Memorial to Wayne Nisly's late wife, Luella, who passed away in December.

Wayne was hoping to see 500 cars and got a whole bunch more.

I was told cars started showing up as early as 10:30 in the morning and had to be asked to move so Wayne could cut the grass. A steady stream of cars entered the cruise-in throughout most of the evening.

It was a perfect evening to celebrate the life of Luella who was an integral part of the cruise-in for so many years.

Everyone who brought a car took home a tire gauge in her memory.

I think I can safely say it will stand out as a cruise-in we'll all remember.

Creative Automotive/Advance Auto Parts Monthly Car Show:

Creative Automotive/Advance Auto Parts hosted its third show of the season at the Advanced Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio on Friday evening.

The show had 23 cars in attendance and raised $200 from door prizes and 50/50 raffle money for the local food pantries.

The store manager's three picks this month were Wesley Bach (Grandson of the late Cal Rowland) with a 1952 Chevy pickup, Russ Annis with a 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS, and Mike Bonczak with a 1999 Pontiac 30th T/A.

Immaculate Conception Parish Car Show:

Forty-four cars turned out for the Immaculate Conception Parish Car Show in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday.

The entry fee was $10. Dash plaques were passed out to the first 25 cars to register. There was also a 50/50 raffle.

There were Five People's Choice awards. They included Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Interior, "Cutest", and Best Overall. In addition, there were five "Show Favorite" trophies.

The People's Choice BEST OVERALL award went to Tim Hooten and his 1973 Chevy Nova SS with factory "Skyroof".

Cruise-A-Palooza:

Amanda, Ohio was the scene of the 5th Annual Cruise-A-Palooza on Saturday.

The show registered 125 Cars.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, received a Top 20 award with his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup.

Best of Show went to the 1933 Ford Vicky belonging to Jim Deal.

Car, Truck, and Bike Show at Walmart:

Thanks to an approaching line of rain showers, the Car, Truck, and Bike Show at Walmart in London, Ohio on Sunday ended early.

The Best Truck award went to Dale Pearce with a 1950 Chevy 3100 Pickup. Anthony Musick's 2017 Dodge Challenger TA received Best Mopar. Best Ford went to Tyler Combs with a 2003 Ford Mustang GT. My 2021 Corvette was picked Best GM.

Jeremy Ewing and his 1965 Ford Fairlane took home Best of Show honors.

Other Area Shows:

  • On Friday evening, the Oorang Bang Car Show took place in front of the LaRue, Ohio United Methodist Church. The show registered 83 cars. Award plaques were presented to the "Top 10" cars.

  • The 2nd Annual Harry and Mary Wise Car Show registered 170 cars on Saturday at the Walnut Grill in Sunbury, Ohio. Awards were presented to the "Top 20". Here's a sampling of the cars from the show.
  • Twenty-28 cars attended the Jim Allen Memorial Orphan Car Show at High Banks Metro Park in Lewis Center, Ohio on Saturday. Cash awards instead of trophies or plaques were presented to the "Top 6" cars.

Executive Storage Estates Open House:

The last item on this week's report has nothing to do with car shows or cruise-ins but a lot to do with cars.

Dave Bratton and Lou were invited to an Open House on Saturday at the Executive Storage Estates Condominiums in Plain City, Ohio.

As you can imagine from the name, these are "high-end" storage units that one can buy to store cars, boats, RVs, and memorabilia. As Dave described it, "Man caves for high rollers".

Dave sent me some photos from the open house that I thought might enjoy seeing. These units sure beat the heck out of the 10' x 20' unit I have to store my cars.
