NEWS AND NOTES

I'm sad to report we lost another Central Ohio cruiser last week with the unexpected passing of Thad Lee Roberts. Thad was 59 years old.

Many of you will recognize Thad from his cars. He most often drove his 1973 Chevy Camaro RS/Z28 to shows. He also showed a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger and a 1972 Chevy Nova.

Our condolences go out to his family. Here is his obituary with information regarding visitation and funeral service.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

It was another big evening at the restaurant's weekly cruise-in. Attendance this past Thursday reached 280 cars.

This week's unique/unusual car is the 1940 Ford pickup belonging to Jack Leffel. I think you'll understand from the photos why the pickup is so unique.

If there was a Best of Show award, in my opinion, it would go to this 1960 Chevy Impala.

A Ford Bronco Raptor Edition made an appearance on Thursday. I have to admit it was a damn cool SUV.

The Heart of Grove City Car, Truck, & Bike Show:

Shaun "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were in Grove City, Ohio on Saturday for the first of three Heart of Grove City Car, Truck, & Bike Shows this season.

The show registered 70 cars.

Live music was provided by the 3C Highway Band during the first half of the show.

Awards were presented to the Top 35 cars and trucks along with awards for MOPO (Most Potential)/Rat Rod, Best Bike, Best Truck, and Best of Show.

The MOPO/Rat Rod award went to Brian Black and his 1976 "Chebby" G10 Van.

The Best Bike award would have gone to this 2024 Yamaha MT-07 but the owner left before the end of the show.

Doug Glassburn's 1972 Chevy C-10 Stepside pickup received the Best Truck Award.

The Best of Show honors went to Jim Loftus with a 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Show at Earthworks Cafe at Newark Station:

Frank Russell and his Crossroads Events team hosted their first-ever car show at Earthworks Cafe at Newark Station in Newark, Ohio on Saturday.

The team presented 34 awards at the end of the show.

The Veteran Owned Award went to Dave Byers and his 1989 Chevy Corvette.

For the second week in a row, David Anderson took home Best of Show honors with his 1949 supercharged Ford Tudor convertible.

Next up for the Crossroads Events Team is a show at the Chubby Hawaiian in Baltimore, Ohio on Saturday, June 1st.

Feast of the Flowering Moon Car Show:

Downtown Chillicothe, Ohio was the site of the Feast of the Flowering Moon Car Show on Saturday.

The show presented awards to the Top 25 plus eight "Special Category" awards including "Feast Choice" aka Best of Show.

Attendance totaled 130 cars with 118 of them registered.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, took home the Feast Choice Award along with a Top 25 for his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup.

The Scioto Post did a nice write-up on Dale and his truck. You can read the article posted on its website here.

1972 AMC Gremlin X - Owner: Mark Jasinsky

Here are the Central Ohio car events for the month of March. The Miller's Spring Swap Meet and Car Show in Chillicothe, Ohio has the distinct honor of being the first "Judged" show of the 2024 season.

As in past years, the weekly list of events will begin the first week of April.

Fingers crossed for an early spring in Ohio.

NEWS AND NOTES

I'm sad to report we lost another Central Ohio cruiser last month. David Hiles from Reynoldsburg, Ohio passed away on February 20. A member of the Old Goats Car Club, David drove a gold 1966 Pontiac GTO. He always displayed his GTO with a stuffed tiger on the roof or hood. Our condolences go out to his family. He will be missed.

2013 Ford Mustang - Owner: Brandon Taylor

The Central Ohio car show season "officially" (by my standards anyway) begins this weekend. Now get those vehicles out of storage, if you haven't already, and let's start having fun in 2023!

It's another good week of Central Ohio Car events.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The weather couldn't have been any better this past weekend and it showed in attendance. As someone said, Central Ohio finally had a spring this year instead of going directly from winter into summer.

Der Dutchman had another strong showing. More than 270 cars turned out for the Thursday cruise-in at the restaurant in Plain City, Ohio.

Friday evening in Marysville, Ohio, The Creative Automotive/Advanced Auto Parts monthly show registered 29 vehicles.

The show raised $173 for the Milford Center Trinity Chapel Food Pantry.

Here are the cars that received awards this month:

Overflow parking was needed for the Empty Pocket Cruisers Armed Forces Day Show on Saturday afternoon. The club registered 178 cars at the VFW Post 4931 in Columbus, Ohio.

The Most Patriotic Award went to Frank Deering and his 2000 Corvette. The 1953 Chevy 3100 pickup truck belonging to Dean Maisenbacher received the Best of Show award.

For more photos from the Armed Forces Day Show, Click Here.

Larry Waters was kind enough to send some photos from the Harvey West Memorial Cruise-In at Alumcreek State Park beach on Saturday. Approximately 50 cars turned out for the event.

The 1948 Chevy Pickup owned by Sam and Barbara Parks in the bottom photo was built by Harvey West.

The Mid Ohio Cruisers hosted their second show of the season at its new Burger King location off State Route 31.

The club registered 72 cars, however, closer to 90 cars showed up during the evening. The Burger King doesn't have an abundance of parking so there was some concern as to where all the cars were going to park. The club did a good job of spreading the cars to part of the lot at Turkey Hill next to Burger King, and the street and daycare facility behind the restaurant.

The Hilliard Historic Village at Weaver Park in Hilliard, Ohio was the venue for the inaugural Conkey Classic Car Show on Saturday. The show registered 65 cars. The show presented eight awards from Shiniest Wheels, Kids Choice, to Best Exterior. All voting was done using a QR code through a smartphone (interesting). All proceeds from the show went to the Conkey Charity for Covid Victims. Congratulation to Tim Foremen and his 2016 Camaro SS convertible for winning the Best Exterior award.

Cruis'in the O'Reilly Auto Parts on Harrisburg Pike in Columbus is the final show in this week's News and Notes report. Approximately 60 cars participated in the show on Sunday. Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC 40 took home the Best of Show award.

Unless some events are announced this week, it's an unusually light schedule for the last weekend of April. I've included a few events that would normally be considered outside of the Central Ohio area just because the schedule is so light. There really isn't much in the way of car events throughout the entire state this weekend. Weird?

Der Dutchman is hosting a pre-cruise-in dinner at the restaurant on Thursday (see link below) so everyone can get reacquainted with each other after the winter layoff.

NEWS AND NOTES:

The weather wasn't quite as cooperative Saturday evening as everyone had hoped for. Folks attending Cruisin' with the King in Marysville and the First Delaware Cruise Night had to dodge some rain showers throughout the evening. Despite the rain, the Delaware Cruise Night raised $200 for the Humane Society of Delaware County.

The Ninja Xpress Car Meet in Lewis Center was a rather laid-back affair Saturday afternoon. I counted between 25-30 cars during the hour I was there. Most were late model cars.

Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Pepsi Auto Smarts Cruise and Ride gang held their first show of the season on Saturday at the Sandalwood Boulevard Elks Club in Columbus. The Best of Show award went to Chris Kraner with a 1970 Ford Torino GT.

Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted their Spring Warm-up Car Meet at the American Legion Southway Post in South Columbus on Sunday. The meet registered more than 80 cars. All proceeds went to the American Legion post. Stacy Longenette and her 1948 Chevy Thriftmaster pickup took Best of Meet honors.
