NEWS AND NOTES

The rain on Saturday and Sunday canceled several shows and created confusion for one.

Around 10:30 AM on Saturday I received a Facebook notification that the #1Ricart, Car, Truck, and Bike Show at Picktown Palooza was canceled. Turns out the show wasn't canceled only that registration was delayed until the rain stopped. If you didn't go to the show on account of it being marked canceled here, I apologize.

Der Dutchman Thursday Cruise-In:

This week 282 cars attended the cruise-in on Thursday evening at the Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio.

Saturday morning would have been the first of two Coffee and Donuts Cruise-ins this season. I was looking forward to seeing cars and sucking down a big fat cream-filled long john donut and a cup of coffee. The rain quickly shattered my dreams forcing me to eat a relatively healthy breakfast at home. Oh well. The next coffee and donuts cruise-in is scheduled for September.

Sizzlin Summer Season Series Car Show:

The Crossroads Events hosted its second of four scheduled car, truck, and bike shows at the Hidden Lakes Winery in Canal Winchester, Ohio on Friday evening.

Live music was provided by Dwane Haggy & "Shades of Puddy" band (they were really good!). The winery provided a food truck at the car show entrance. The combination of the restaurant, lake, and nice weather made for a great evening for a car show.

The event registered 70 vehicles. Thirty-two awards were presented in a variety of categories. The Best of Show winners for the evening were:

Music in the Park and Cruise-In Car Show:

A second car show took place in downtown Canal Winchester on Friday evening as part of the Music in the Park Concert Series. This is the seventh year the C-Town Cruisers have hosted the free car show in the park. The Gas Pump Jockeys played live oldies music.

Fifty-plus cars attended this year's event.

The Peoples Choice award went to David and Karen Oiler with a 1935 Chevy Master.

Cruisin' with the King in 2022:

Mother nature paused the rain on Saturday in time for the Mid Ohio Cruisers July car show at the Burger King in Marysville, Ohio.

The club registered 67 cars Saturday evening. There were another 15-20 cars that stopped by the Burger King but did not register.

Award plaques were presented to the club's "Favorite 15" vehicles.

The rain turned Sunday into a literal washout. I received cancellations for three of the five shows on the schedule. One show was postponed to a later date. And the show I didn't receive any info on, I'm sure was canceled or had very low attendance. Thank goodness that kind of day doesn't happen very often.

Here are the events scheduled for this last weekend of September. Once again it's a big one! If past history is any indication, the two biggest shows of the weekend will be the Sunbury Lions Club Country Cruise-in and the North Hills Car and Bike Show. Both are on Sunday.

Der Dutchman:

The Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio held two cruise-ins this week. Their weekly cruise-in on Thursday evening attracted 347 cars. It turned out to be a wonderful evening to hang out with friends.

Saturday morning the restaurant hosted its annual Coffee and Donuts cruise-in. More than 80 cars stopped in for a cup of coffee and a famous Der Dutchman donut. By 11 AM everyone was experiencing a pretty good sugar and caffeine buzz.

Farrow Hot Rods and Handlebars:

Saturday evening the Farrow Harley Davidson Dealership in Sunbury, Ohio hosted their second Hot Rods and Handlebars Car and Bike Show of the season. The event was sponsored by Rabid Customs, Ricart Automotive, and of course, Farrow Harley-Davidson.

The Parking lot was divided into two sections, one for the motorcycles and the other for the cars. Two food trucks and a beer garden provided refreshments. A live band (sorry, don't know the name) entertained the crowd.

Entry to the show was free for spectators and motorcycles. If you wanted your car included in the judging for a trophy, a $10 donation to charity was requested. With the $10 donation also came a 16 oz bottle of Jax Wax Hawaiian Shine, microfiber towel, and air freshener. Not a bad deal.

On the car side, there were trophies for the top 25, third and second place, and Best of Show. I believe there were three awards for the motorcycles.

The car registration forms were not numbered so I don't have an accurate count of registered cars. I'm guessing somewhere around 100 cars with another 50 that showed up but didn't register. All I can say about the bikes is there were a lot of them! I didn't spend much time in the bikes section. There was a lot to keep up with the cars. I did, however, discover (as did many others) a "Legends of Rock" themed bike that was absolutely amazing. You'll have to check it out on the show's PHOTO PAGE. Let me know how many rock legends you can name.

Coughlin Chevrolet of Pataskala Car Show:

Coughlin Chevrolet of Pataskala, Ohio held its 12th annual car show on Saturday. Advertised as "Ohio's Best Free Car Show", the event registered close to 200 cars.

The show attracted mostly Corvettes with maybe 40-50 cars being other makes and models. Trophies were presented to the Top 100 cars. There was no Best of Show award.

All Oldsmobile Car Show and Swap Meet:

On Sunday, the Mid-Ohio Chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America held their 34th Annual All Oldsmobile Car Show and Swap Meet at Quaker Steak and Lube in Columbus, Ohio.

The club registered 75 Oldsmobiles. Trophies were presented to the Top 20 cars as voted on by those participating in the show.

Even though I don't own an Oldsmobile, the first car my wife and I bought as a married couple was a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme so I have a little soft spot in my heart for the brand. Unfortunately, I only saw one 1977 Cutlass. It was a 442 not a supreme.

Other Area Shows:

Reports are the Jax Wax Car Show on Saturday registered close to 400 cars. Steve Andrix and his 1954 Chevy Bel Air received the Best of Show award.

The turn out for Pepsi's Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride at Columbus Auto Resale on Saturday was between 50 and 60 cars.

The Cupola Classic Car Show in Johnstown, Ohio on Sunday had 160 cars in attendance.

Another HUGE week of car events in Central Ohio. No less than 20 events on the schedule for Saturday.

The marquee events this week will be Jegs Speed Week at National Trail Raceway, The Performance Charity Car Show in downtown Delaware, and Ohio Car Shows & Cruise-Ins Facebook Group Show in Mount Vernon.

UPDATE: The Performance Charity Car Show scheduled for Saturday in downtown Delaware, Ohio has been canceled because of weather. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

NEWS AND NOTES:

After a two-year absence, Chesrown Chevrolet, Buick, GMC in Delaware, Ohio was back with a cruise-in Thursday evening. The event drew more than 100 cars and dozens of spectators.

Food trucks provided refreshments, and the crowd of cruisers and spectators enjoyed music from The Conspiracy Band. Best of all the rain stayed away during the cruise-in.

The July Creative Automotive/Advanced Auto Parts Show in Marysville, Ohio registered 27 cars on Friday. The show raised $115 for the Trinity Chapel Food Pantry in Milford Center, Ohio. The four award winners this month were:

Our friend, Dale Pearce, and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup had another good weekend. Dale's truck took the Best Truck award at the second annual Average Dude's Nationals hosted by the C-Town Cruisers on Saturday. On Sunday, his truck received the Peoples Choice Award at the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club Show. The Yacht Club registered 45 cars. Not bad considering the weather on Sunday.

The Average Dude's Nationals Best of Show winner was Charlie Seymour of Chillicothe with a 1967 Nova SS.

Those of you that spend time on Facebook have probably seen lots of photos from the Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals held at the Ohio Expo Center this weekend. Rumor has it Jeff Shankle has been diagnosed with a severe case of camera phone finger after taking 450 photos at the event. Jeff was last seen icing his hand.

I won't bombard you with more photos from Goodguys, but I would like to point out something awesome that happened there this weekend. If you've ever attended an Empty Pockets Cruisers show, you may have seen Valeria Dresbach running around. She's an active member of the club and plays an important role in making their shows run smoothly. A big shout-out goes to Valeria's mom, Julie Hendrix, and her husband Dave Miller. Their 1971 Oldsmobile 442 won the Goodguys Restored Award. Congrats!
