NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Last weekend was the annual London Cobra Show held between London and Dublin, Ohio. About 40 of the Cobras in for the show attended the Der Dutchman Cruise-In on Thursday. Total attendance reached 245 cars.

Remembering the Classics at Verena at Hilliard:

The Verena Senior Living Community in Hilliard, Ohio hosted a Remembering the Classics event on Thursday evening.

The theme of the event was a celebration of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. A small "classic" car show and Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Marilyn Monroe musical tribute impersonators were part of the celebration.

The residents of Verena were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite car. Trophies were presented to the three cars with the most votes.

Jeff Tolley's 1959 Chevy Biscayne received the third-place trophy. Tom Obert's 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang finished in second place.

Dale Pearce and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received the most votes. The walker displayed right next to his truck gave Dale a huge advantage over the other cars. 😎

Everyone who participated in the car show was treated to a prime rib or chicken dinner compliments of the Verena.

London Strawberry Festival Car & Motorcycle Show:

Downtown London, Ohio was the scene of the annual Strawberry Festival Car & Motorcycle Show on Friday Evening.

The show registered about 40 cars.

One of my pet peeves is window cards with just a number to identify the car. Spectators and car show reporters like me find it beneficial to know the owner, year, make, and model of the vehicle. Especially when it comes to time to present awards.

Here's the Best of Show winner.

PTFD's Fish Fry & Friday Cruise-In:

It was one owner night at the Prairie Township Fire Department Fish Fry and Cruise-In on Friday evening in Columbus, Ohio.

The show registered 50 cars. There were 50 awards including the Fire Chief's Choice and Best of Show.

The Fire Chief's Choice Award went to Bud Norris and his all-original, one-owner 1965 Ford Mustang

Best of Show went to the one-owner 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS of Russ Annis.

Earth Angel Foundation Super Cruise-In:

The Earth Angel Foundation held its 36th annual Super Cruise-In at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds in Lancaster, Ohio on Saturday.

The event registered over 225 cars. There were a total of 84 awards (80 + four special) presented at the end of the show.

The "Special" awards went to Bob Randolph with his 1970 Dodge Challenger (Kids' Choice). John Nuckles' 1940 Ford Woody received one of the two Goodguys awards. The other went to a T-Bucket from Indiana. Best of Show honors named after the late president of the Foundation, Neil Redd, went to the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner Hemi of Jim Bickel.

Here are some of the cars and scenes from this year's Super Cruise-In:

Pinecrest Car Show, Cruise-In:

On Saturday, the Reformation Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio was the site of the 3rd Annual Pinecrest Car Show, Cruise-In. The show was sponsored by the Pinecrest Civic Association and the C-Town Cruisers.

The awards included "Top 30", Pastor's Choice (aka Best of Show), and Club Participation.

Congratulations to The Old Goats Car Club for its third club participation award this season.

American Legion Canteen Post 144 Car Show:

Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted their first of four car shows this season at the American Legion Canteen Post 144 on South High Street in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday.

Unfortunately, some rain showers passing through the area just about the time registration opened kept some cars home in the garage. The show registered 33 cars.

Best of Show honors went to Steve Shaeffer with a 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible.

The next show the C-Town Cruisers will host at the American Legion Post on South High Street will be the Labor Day Car Show on September 4th.

Other Area Shows:

  • The Buckeye Region Plymouth Owners Club hosted its 20th Annual All Mopar Car Show at the Plaza Inn Family Restaurant in Mount Victory, Ohio Saturday morning. Thirty-four cars turned out for the event. In lieu of trophies, everyone who registered a vehicle was treated to a free buffet luncheon at the restaurant.
  • Walmart, Empty Pockets, and Nationwide Children's Hospital hosted a car show on Saturday afternoon at the Westpointe Plaza Walmart. Sponsored by Walmart and Nationwide Children's Hospital with help from the Empty Pockets Car Club, the show registered around 50 cars. All proceeds went to the Children's Miracle Network. Awards were presented to the "Top 40" Cars along with three "Special Awards". Here are the Special Award winners:

  • The Marysville Mustang Club hosted its Summer Event Saturday at C&N Motor Cars in Marysville, Ohio. About 75 cars attended the afternoon car meet.
  • Anthony Musick's 2017 Dodge Challenger finished in 1st Place for 2001 to 2023 Modern Cars at the Permco Grand Prix at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.

I especially want to thank everyone who contributed to this week's report. This includes Dave Bratton, Jeff Shankle, Anthony Musick, Dale Pearce, Arch Mayer, Russ Annis, Phil Monroe, and Frank Sanborn.

My wife had a bad fall at Star Lanes at Polaris Friday afternoon and broke her left shoulder. I'll be playing Nursemaid for a while.

I hope everyone has a great week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Attendance this week was quite a contrast from the previous week. Only 147 cars turned out. I think the weather forecast kept a lot of folks home. It called all day for a 40% chance of rain around 6 PM. The rain did eventually come, but it was well after the cruise-in was over. Wayne drew the raffle tickets early so everyone could get home before the rain.

Market District Grandview Yard Giant Eagle POP-UP Car Show:

The Giant Eagle in the Market District in Grandview, Ohio was the site of a pop-up car show on Friday evening hosted by Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers.

Awards were presented to the "Top 25" cars plus Best of Show.

The Best of Show award went to David Elliott and his 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Cruisin' With the Mayor:

Cruisin' with the Mayor was another show that took place on Friday evening in West Jefferson, Ohio.

The show registered 66 cars. There were four awards, Mayor's Choice, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place. All the winners received plaques and gift cards to Flyers Pizza.

The Mayor's Choice went to Eric and Beth Vacheresse and their 1969 F100 Ford Ranger.

First Place went to Mike Sullivan and his 1953 International R-132.

Second place went to a 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Sorry, I don't have the owner's name.

Our good friend, Russ Annis, picked up the Third Place award with his 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS.

Commercial Point Homecoming & Fish Fry Car and Bike Show:

The Commercial Point, Ohio Men's Club set an attendance record on Saturday with 175 registered cars. Add in the cars that didn't register and attendance was well over 200 cars.

Three-foot trophies for the "Top 25" attracted a lot of really nice vehicles.

My only complaint with the show was the 35 minutes I stood in line to register. That process really needs to be streamlined for next year. Although in all fairness, I don't think the Men's Club expected that many cars.

Everyone who registered a car received a sheet of paper with the list of criteria used for judging. Vehicle cleanliness and presentation were two of the top criteria. To get the best score, the hoods had to be open and if the vehicle had a trunk it also had to be open.

Here are the top award winners:

TOP BIKE: 2011 Harley Davidson Street Glide - Owner: Jay Bethel
TOP TRUCK: 1946 Chevy Pickup - Owner: Kevin Marshall

MEN'S CLUB CHOICE: 1946 Ford Coupe - Owner: Bob Kirst

The BEST OF SHOW award went to Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC40 Military Pickup

Here are some of the other beautiful rides that attended the show:

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Car Show:

The Mountain View Christian Church in Upper Arlington, Ohio held a car show on Saturday to help raise money for a hurricane relief mission to Puerto Rico.

The show registered 57 cars. There were 16 Sponsor's Choice awards. The door prizes were awarded after the trophy presentation and after many of the participants had already left.

Here are some of the cars from the show.

Leon's Garage Dad's Day Car Show:

Leon's Garage in Marysville, Ohio hosted its first-ever Dad's Day Car Show on Sunday.

Parking was limited so pre-registration was requested by the restaurant. As it turned out, there were a few spaces available at the start of the show so some cars were able to register the day of.

The band Radio City played classic rock music on the patio during the afternoon.

There were games and kids' activities. And of course, food and beverages could be purchased from the restaurant.

The total number of registered cars reached 37. The show presented awards to the "Top Five" cars along with a Best of Show.

Here are the "Top Five" winners:

James Elsmore took home the Best of Show honors with his absolutely pristine 1964 Plymouth Belvedere Station Wagon.

Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride at Moose Lodge 1427:

Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smarts Radio Team were at Moose Lodge 1427 in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday hosting a car show to raise money for Honor Flight. A 91-year-old Korean War Veteran spoke to the crowd about how much it meant to him to have gone on an Honor Flight.

The show registered 57 cars.

Boots' Pick went to Dan Varner and his 1963 1/2 Mercury Marauder Fastback S-55.

Craig Grunkemeyer's 1969 Chevy Corvette received the Best of Show honors.

Dave Bratton was kind enough to share the photos he took from the show. Here's a slideshow of his photos. Pay close attention, you just may see your car.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

As many of you already know by now, Der Dutchman set a record in attendance last Thursday with 617 cars! Of those 617, 89 were first-time participants in the cruise-in.

The cruise-in was a Memorial to Wayne Nisly's late wife, Luella, who passed away in December.

Wayne was hoping to see 500 cars and got a whole bunch more.

I was told cars started showing up as early as 10:30 in the morning and had to be asked to move so Wayne could cut the grass. A steady stream of cars entered the cruise-in throughout most of the evening.

It was a perfect evening to celebrate the life of Luella who was an integral part of the cruise-in for so many years.

Everyone who brought a car took home a tire gauge in her memory.

I think I can safely say it will stand out as a cruise-in we'll all remember.

Creative Automotive/Advance Auto Parts Monthly Car Show:

Creative Automotive/Advance Auto Parts hosted its third show of the season at the Advanced Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio on Friday evening.

The show had 23 cars in attendance and raised $200 from door prizes and 50/50 raffle money for the local food pantries.

The store manager's three picks this month were Wesley Bach (Grandson of the late Cal Rowland) with a 1952 Chevy pickup, Russ Annis with a 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS, and Mike Bonczak with a 1999 Pontiac 30th T/A.

Immaculate Conception Parish Car Show:

Forty-four cars turned out for the Immaculate Conception Parish Car Show in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday.

The entry fee was $10. Dash plaques were passed out to the first 25 cars to register. There was also a 50/50 raffle.

There were Five People's Choice awards. They included Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Interior, "Cutest", and Best Overall. In addition, there were five "Show Favorite" trophies.

Here are the "Show "Favorite" winners:

Here are the "Best" award winners:

The People's Choice BEST OVERALL award went to Tim Hooten and his 1973 Chevy Nova SS with factory "Skyroof".

Cruise-A-Palooza:

Amanda, Ohio was the scene of the 5th Annual Cruise-A-Palooza on Saturday.

The show registered 125 Cars.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, received a Top 20 award with his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup.

Best of Show went to the 1933 Ford Vicky belonging to Jim Deal.

Car, Truck, and Bike Show at Walmart:

Thanks to an approaching line of rain showers, the Car, Truck, and Bike Show at Walmart in London, Ohio on Sunday ended early.

The Best Truck award went to Dale Pearce with a 1950 Chevy 3100 Pickup. Anthony Musick's 2017 Dodge Challenger TA received Best Mopar. Best Ford went to Tyler Combs with a 2003 Ford Mustang GT. My 2021 Corvette was picked Best GM.

Jeremy Ewing and his 1965 Ford Fairlane took home Best of Show honors.

Other Area Shows:

  • On Friday evening, the Oorang Bang Car Show took place in front of the LaRue, Ohio United Methodist Church. The show registered 83 cars. Award plaques were presented to the "Top 10" cars.

  • The 2nd Annual Harry and Mary Wise Car Show registered 170 cars on Saturday at the Walnut Grill in Sunbury, Ohio. Awards were presented to the "Top 20". Here's a sampling of the cars from the show.
  • Twenty-28 cars attended the Jim Allen Memorial Orphan Car Show at High Banks Metro Park in Lewis Center, Ohio on Saturday. Cash awards instead of trophies or plaques were presented to the "Top 6" cars.

Executive Storage Estates Open House:

The last item on this week's report has nothing to do with car shows or cruise-ins but a lot to do with cars.

Dave Bratton and Lou were invited to an Open House on Saturday at the Executive Storage Estates Condominiums in Plain City, Ohio.

As you can imagine from the name, these are "high-end" storage units that one can buy to store cars, boats, RVs, and memorabilia. As Dave described it, "Man caves for high rollers".

Dave sent me some photos from the open house that I thought might enjoy seeing. These units sure beat the heck out of the 10' x 20' unit I have to store my cars.

A big thanks to Dale Pearce, Dave Bratton, Anthony Musick, Jeff Shankle, Tim Inscho, Russ Annis, Phil Monroe, Larry Walters, and Bryan Mauger for contributing to this week's report.

I hope everyone has a great week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Thanks to the warm temperatures attendance was down a little this week at 297 cars.

The weekly cruise-in at the restaurant in Plain City, Ohio has become so popular even the police are attending.

Also in attendance this week was the first mid-engine Corvette with a Lingenfelter Supercharger Package. This package takes the LT2 engine in the C8 Corvette from 495 HP up to 700 HP.

Two other cars really stood out at this week's cruise-in. Bryan Mauger's 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo and a deep red second-generation Corvette convertible. Both cars were every bit worthy of Best of Show status.

There will be a celebration of life for Wayne's late wife, Luella, this Thursday, June 8. The long-range forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 70s. Wayne would love to see 500 cars attend.

Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars:

Between 30 and 40 cars turned out Saturday morning for the Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars Cruise-In in Delaware, Ohio.

Participants could enjoy a free cup of coffee or latte from the coffee shop inside the bank. A donuts and coffee truck was set up in the parking lot for those wishing a little more than coffee.

The cruise-in ended with a door prize raffle. The top prize was a bucket of car cleaning products and a fifth of Old Forester Bourbon.

Bryan Lewis Memorial Car Show:

Carz and Causez hosted its first-ever car show on Saturday at the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church in Hilliard, Ohio. The show was in honor of Bryan Lewis, a member of the Empty Pockets Car Club, who passed away in 2021.

Despite the very warm temperatures, the event registered 154 cars. Food and refreshments were available from the Corn Dog Castle food truck. DJ Ronnie Wineka spun the toons during the afternoon. All proceeds from the show will benefit the Learning 4 Life Farm.

Awards were presented to the "Favorite 45" cars along with DJ's Choice, Sponsor's Choice (Vienna Door Company), Church's Choice, Charity's Choice, and the Bryan Lewis Memorial Award.

Here are the "Choice" winners:

The Bryan Lewis Memorial Award was presented to Derek Hayes and his 1983 Zimmer Gold Spirit.

Here are some of the "Favorite 45" from the show:

It turned out to be a pretty good day for some of the members of the Rusty Lug Nutz Facebook Group.

Left to right: Dr. Ron Rogers, Cindy Rogers, Dale Pearce, and William Brown

Auto Smarts Radio Cruise & Ride at Grove City Baptist Church:

Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smarts Radio Crew hosted their second car show of the season at the Grove City Baptist Church Saturday afternoon.

The show registered 120 cars. A line of thunder showers moved through the area around 5 PM soaking everyone and everything. The rain moved out allowing Boots to hand out the awards early. Unfortunately, the Best of Show winner, Chip Cooper, and his 1968 Camaro left the show early so he didn't receive the trophy.

Here's a little slideshow of some of the cars from the show before and after the rain.

Trisha's Rescue Car and Bike Show:

The Newark Eagles Club in Newark, Ohio was the site of Trisha's Rescue Car and Bike Show on Sunday.

Proceeds from the show hosted by Trisha Wilson go to rescue, spay, and neuter stray dogs and cats.

With slightly cooler temperatures on Sunday than on Saturday, the show registered 103 cars.

There were door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Everyone who registered a car got a door prize ticket.

Bounce houses were set up for the kids to have some fun.

The show presented awards to the "Top 30". In addition, there were awards for Best GM, Best Ford, Best Mopar, Best Truck, Best Bike, Best Import, and Trisha's Pick.

Here are the Best Of winners:

Greg Everingham took home Trisha's Pick with his 1954 Cadillac Series 62.

Other Area Shows:

  • Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted a show at The Point On Main Street Sports Bar and Grill on Sunday. The show registered 68 cars. The Best of Show honors went to Ted Tickle and his 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7.

  • There were 85 cars in attendance Saturday evening at the Rod Knockers monthly show at the Rural King in Marion, Ohio. Here are a few of the cars that attended the show.
  • Although technically not an area show, our good friend, Chris Kraner, participated in the Ford Nationals at Carlisle, Pennsylvania with his Torino this weekend. There were approximately 4000 cars in attendance.

That's it for this week's report. As I mentioned, next week, especially Saturday, has a ton of events. I'll try to report on as many shows as possible.

I want to thank Dale Pearce, Dave Bratton, Anthony Musick, Jeff Shankle, Chad Herrick, and Chris Kraner for contributing to this week's report.

I hope everyone has a good week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

For the third week in a row, attendance at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio broke the 300 mark. This week it was 325 to be exact.

Once again lots of great-looking cars and trucks were in attendance.

Mark your calendars. There will be a celebration of life for Wayne's late wife, Luella, on Thursday, June 8. Wayne would love to see 500 cars attend.

Heart of Grove City Spring Warm-Up Car Show:

Shaun "Big Dawg" Saunders and the C-Town Cruisers were in downtown Grove City, Ohio on Saturday hosting the Heart of Grove City Spring Warm-up Car Show.

The event had a good turnout registering 108 vehicles during the afternoon.

Quite a few heads were turned when Dale Pearce pulled up in a new mid-engine Corvette.

Rumors began circulating that Dale had lost his mind and traded in "Ole Blue" for the new Corvette. Those rumors were quickly put to rest when everyone realized Dale was driving Dan "Boots" Longenette's new Corvette. The best part was watching Dale try to get out of the car.

Getting back to the show, awards were presented to the "Top" 35 cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The "Best Of" awards included Best Bike, Best Truck, Best MoPo(Most Potential)/Rat Rod, Best Club Participation (Larry Bickers Memorial Award), Junior Cruiser Award, and of course Best of Show.

Here are the "Best Of" winners:

The Larry Bickers Award for Best Club Participation went to the Old Goats Car Club. Larry along with Paul and Lynn Raduege and Frank Russell were the original founding members of the club which is now around 240 members strong. Larry passed away several years ago and Paul passed away last year leaving Lynn and Frank as the remaining founding members.

Kenny G and Lynn Raduege accepting the Larry Bickers Memorial Award

The Best of Show Award went to our good friend, Dan Varner, with his 1964 "Survivor" Chevy Impala.

Here are the Top 35:

Moonshine Festival Car, Truck, and Bike Show

About 90 cars attended the Moonshine Festival Car, Truck, and Bike Show in downtown New Straitsville, Ohio on Sunday.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, and his 1950 Chevy 3100 took home the Best GM award.

Best of Show went to the 1954 Corvette belonging to Steve Kidwell and Nancy.

Ye Olde Mill Rod Run & Picnic:

The Newark Rodders Car Club hosted its 52nd Annual Rod Run & Picnic at the Velvet Ice Cream Ye Olde Mill in Utica, Ohio on Sunday.

The beautiful weather and ice cream brought out hundreds of cars to the event. Dave Bratton said he arrived at 9:45 in the morning and was number 369! The final registration number ended up being well over 400 cars.

The horse-drawn carriage arriving and departing did create a lot of dust for cars parked close to the road. And of course, this time of year the fuzz balls from the cottonwood trees are not car-friendly.

There was no Best of Show, however, there were two memorial trophies. One in honor of Barb Wilson who started the show 52 years ago and one for her grandson. The Barb Wilson Award went to Barry McPeek and his 1932 Ford Sedan. William Brown and his 1979 Mustang Pace Car received the Memorial Award for the grandson.

Dave Bratton was kind enough to share the photos he took at the Rod Run & Picnic.

Antique Car Show and Petroliana Swap:

I had the pleasure of attending my first Memorial Day Antique Car Show and Petroliana Swap in Mount Victory, Ohio on Monday.

What a nice way to spend Memorial Day. Registration was free and optional. There were 192 cars registered by 1 PM with probably another 50-75 cars in attendance that didn't register. There were door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Food trucks and the Methodist Church across Rt 31 were available for food and refreshments.

Almost all the residences around the show area allowed cars to park at the end of their front yard and driveway. There was one grumpy neighbor, however, who had his entire front yard taped off.

Mount Victory is best known for its antique shops. However, the most impressive display of memorabilia is the oil and gas collection contained in the outbuildings on Donald Houchin's property. It's definitely a walk back in time.

Here are some of the cars and scenes from the Mount Victory show:

Rogers Garage Memorial Day Car Meet:

Another Memorial Day car meet took place at Rogers Garage in Johnstown, Ohio. It's estimated that 200 or more cars attended the meet on Monday. Someone compared it to Der Dutchman on a slower night.

Here's a slideshow of the cars from that event:

Other Central Ohio Car Events:

  • The Memorial Day Car Show in downtown Lithopolis, Ohio hosted by the C-Town Cruisers registered 175 vehicles. Best of Show went to Bob Kraft and his 1955 Chevy 210.

  • The Pauley Family Car Show Benefit in Sabina, Ohio on Sunday had about 50 cars in attendance.
  • The New Holland Community Park Celebration Day Car Show registered 75 cars on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, the Feast of the Flowering Moon Cruise-In in Downtown Chillicothe, Ohio broke the 100 mark with 104 cars.
  • I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Springfield Swap Meet and Car Show at the Clark County Fairgrounds. Three days of beautiful weather made for a lot of cars and lots of visitors. Our good friend, Jeff Shankle, posted over 450 photos from the event on his Facebook page. Here's just a small sample of the cars from the weekend.

Whew! A Holiday weekend and great weather made for an exceptionally long report this week. Next week will return to our regularly scheduled Monday posting and a little shorter report.

I want to thank Dale Pearce, Dave Bratton, Anthony Musick, Jeff Shankle, Bryan Mauer, Kevin Foust, and Phil Monroe for their contributions to this week's report.
