NEWS AND NOTES
Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
Attendance was over 300 cars Thursday evening at the restaurant in Plain City, Ohio.
This coming Thursday is the LAST cruise-in for 2023. The following week (Thursday, October 5th) is the banquet, and then another season of Der Dutchman cruise-ins will be in the books.
If you'd like to attend the banquet, you can still sign up next Thursday.
Grace Chapel Church Wednesday Night Cruise-In:
The Pastor of the Grace Chapel Community Church in Westerville, Ohio has allowed the use of the church parking lot for a Wednesday evening Cruise-In all summer long.
I stopped by this past Wednesday to check it out before it shut down for the season. Dan's Deli has been there each week offering food and refreshment.
I'm guessing close to 50 cars rolled through the cruise-in by the time I left around 7 p.m. The parking lot was full with only a few parking spots still available.
This Wednesday is the last cruise-in according to the flyer but one of the regulars told me they may go into October if the weather stays nice.

If the Pastor allows the use of the parking lot next year, you can bet I will stop by more often than once.
Columbus Cars and Coffee Meet at Esoteric:
For the second time this season, the corporate-sponsored Columbus Cars and Coffee hosted a meet at Esoteric Fine Auto Finishing in New Albany, Ohio.
Beautiful weather on Saturday morning resulted in a great turnout of cars and spectators.
The vehicles inside the Esoteric shop were just as interesting as the ones outside it.
Columbus Cars and Coffee will be hosting another meet this coming Saturday at Meyer Shank Racing in Pataskala, Ohio. The following Saturday they will be at Associated Insurance Agencies in Uptown Westerville, Ohio. The season finale will be October 28th at the Midwestern Auto Group (MAG) in Dublin, Ohio.
MMC's Last Big Event of the Year:
The Marysville Mustang Club hosted its final meet of the year at C&N Motor Cars in Marysville, Ohio.
Open to all makes, models, and years, the meet had close to 50 cars roll through on Saturday afternoon.
Seeing the collection of cars, old-time gas pumps, and automotive memorabilia inside the C&N Motor Cars building made the trip out to Marysville all worthwhile.

Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride at Columbus Auto Resale:
The Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride schedule took Dan "Boots" Longette and the team to Columbus Auto Resale on Saturday.
The Show registered 45 cars.
The top winners were Dave Bratton and his 1937 Wild Rod Ford for Best Paint.
Jim McGruder's 2020 Corvette received the Kid's Choice Award.
Best Engine went to Dick Sephano with a 1967 Chevy Impala. The Best of Show winner was the 1963 Chevy Nova Wagon belonging to Scott Alvin.
This coming weekend will be the last two shows of the season for the Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride Tour. On Saturday they will be hosting a show at Masseys Pizza in Grove City, Ohio and the final show will be Sunday at Moose Lodge 1427 in Columbus.
Still Electric Mods, Rods, and Classics Car Show:
Still Electric and the C-Town Cruisers teamed up on Saturday for the 2nd Annual Mods, Rods, and Classics car show at Alum Creek Baptist Church.
The show registered 171 cars and gave out over 40 trophies ranging in size from 2 1/2 to 5 feet tall.
The Best Truck Award went to Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC 40 Weapons Carrier.
Steve Bechtel and his 1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible took home the Best of Show honors.
I spoke with Steve on Sunday about his car. He told me the previous owner spent four years restoring the car and passed away unexpectedly before he got a chance to drive it. The car was neglected for nine years before Steve bought it. It took Steve about a year to get back into running order.
Burnzies Green Cable Cruise-In:
Burnzies Old Trail Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio hosted its 4th Annual Green Cable Cruise-In on Saturday.
About 50 cars turned out for the cruise-in.
The first-place award went to Ed Evans with a 1950 Chevy Bel Air. The 1935 Ford Coupe of James Dylan received second place. Tim Hooten's 1964 MGB took third place.
Best of Show honors went to Frank Short with a 1970 Volkswagon Bus.
Chubby Hawaiin Grill Car, Truck, and Bike Show:
The Chubby Hawaiin Grill in Baltimore, Ohio teamed up for the second time this season with Crossroads Events to host a car, truck, and bike show.
There were 37 trophies awarded at the end of the show.
The "Spotlight" car for this show was any Chevrolet Model and the award went to Cliff Warner for his 1957 Chevrolet 210.
Dan J.'s 2012 Jeep Wrangler received The Larry Bickers Dailly Driver Award.
Best of Show went to the 2014 Chevy Corvette belonging to Jeff Dixon.
The Crossroads Events' next show will be this coming Sunday at the Eldorado's Food and Spirits on North High Street in Columbus, Ohio. The Spotlight car will be the AMC/Rambler.
North Hills Church of God Car Show:
The North Hills Church of God in Springfield, Ohio hosted its 7th Annual Car Show on Sunday.
Because of Issues with the septic system, the church wasn't able to use the entire field in the front of the church to park cars. Despite the inconvenience, the church did a good job of parking the 140 cars and bikes that registered for the show.
Dick "Hot Dog" Ryman provided the music. The church offered hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bratwursts, corn on the cob, chips, cookies, water, and soda pop for a small donation. There were also door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and a pie auction.
The judging was done by the show participants. As you know, that kind of judging is not my favorite. However, the North Hills Church does it better than anyone. The registration fee is collected before you park your car. You receive an envelope containing ONE ballot and voting instructions when you register. Ballots are only accepted at the end of registration so everyone voting has the opportunity to see your vehicle. The ballot has your car number on it so If you vote for your car, it will not be counted.
This year the awards were laser cut steel trophies. The two Best of Show awards were clocks.
Awards included Top 40, Ladies Choice, Cooks Choice, Pastor's Choice, Best Custom, Farthest Traveled, Kids Choice, Mandy McCleary Tribute, Top Five Bikes, Top Three Cars 2000 and Up, Best of Show for cars, and Best of Show for bikes.
Here are the Special Award winners:
- Ladies' Choice: Dave Bratton and his 1937 Ford Wild Rod
- Best Custom: Steve Bechtel's 1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible
- Best Original: 1929 Ford Model A - Owner: Mark Lewis
- Kids Choice: Radio Flyer Red Wagon - Owners: Zot & Judy Barazzotto
- Patrick and Faith Rowland both took home awards. Patrick received the Cooks Choice for his 2016 Corvette Z06. Faith's 2016 purple Dodge Challenger was selected for the Mandy McCleary Tribute Award.
- Pastor's Choice: - 1975 Corvette convertible - Owner: Jerry Arms
- Farthest Traveled went to Billy Agee and his 1934 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Billy drives up from Newport, North Carolina to participate in the show every year.
The Best of Show Winners:
For the bikes, it went to Doug Stratton and his 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King.
Mark and Patty Enyart's 1962 Chevy Impala received the Best of Show honors for the cars. This may have been the quickest turnaround in car show history. Their Impala went from most potential to Best of Show in just over 24 hours.
2023 FC Fall Cruise-In:
Fish Catholic High School in Lancaster, Ohio hosted its 2023 Fall Cruise-In on Sunday.
The event had 60-plus cars in attendance.
Dale Pearce's 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received second place in the truck category.
Jim Cook's 1968 Chevy Chevelle was selected Best of Show.
