This week we finish out the month of April and start a new month of the season. Looking ahead, May is going to be a big month for events.

A nice list of events is on tap for both Saturday and Sunday.

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone interesting in participating in the Spring Fling Car & Truck Show on Saturday morning should take note that the Ohio Health Marathon will be going on at the same time a few blocks away from the show. NEWS AND NOTES:

It was crazy April weather in Ohio this past week. At the Plain City Tuesday Evening Cruise, temperatures were in the 40s with wind chills in the 30s.

By Saturday they had warmed into the 80s.

Friday Gathering at Sonic:

The Sonic Drive-In in Heath, Ohio had almost 40 cars turn out this week for their Friday Gathering.

Columbus Cars & Coffee:

The two Columbus Cars & Coffee groups held simultaneous meets on Saturday morning. The one held their weekly Saturday morning affair at the City Apartments on Olentangy River Rd in Columbus while the other held their first meet of the season at the Midwest Auto Group (MAG) dealership in Dublin, Ohio. Both groups had a packed house thanks to the nice weather.

Flavor 91 Bistro Car, Truck and Bike Show:

Shaun ”Big Dawg” Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers hosted their first car show of the season on Saturday at the Flavor 91 Bistro on East Main Street in Columbus, Ohio.

The show registered 90 cars. There were trophies for the Top 25 along with Best Truck, Best Bike, and Best of Show.

The Best Truck award went to Charlie Benson with a 1950 Chevy pickup. Jeff Potts and his 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide took the Best Bike honors. The Best of Show award went to the 1970 Ford Torino GT belonging to Chris Kraner.

Toy Barn Spring Car Show:

Sunday morning the Toy Barn in Dublin, Ohio held their spring car show. The dealership pre-registered 270 vehicles for the event. Thanks to the nice weather, the show drew a huge crowd of spectators.

Someone, I won’t name names, used the event to polish his car. Boots from Auto Smarts Radio provided expert supervision.

The big event this weekend was the sold out Import Face-Off at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. I don’t own an import nor do any of my friends so, unfortunately, I don’t have anything to report. I would really like to hear from anyone who attended the event. If you were there, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section.

Special thanks to Dave Bratton and Jeff Shankle for sharing their photos for this week's report.

Here’s the list of Central Ohio car events for this third week of April 2022.

I'll be heading back to Ohio this week just in time to get a few shows in on the weekend. Of course, that assumes the weather cooperates which sounds like it hasn't been very cooperative so far in April.

NEWS AND NOTES:

It sounds like the weather in Central Ohio was pretty ugly this past week. The inaugural Plain City Tuesday Evening Cruise-In was completely rained out.

Rain also affected the monthly Creative Automotive/Advanced Auto Parts Car Show in Marysville on Friday evening. Eight cars braved the cold, wet weather for this month's show.

The 13 or so cars that showed up for the Columbia Center Community Church Car Show on Saturday in Pataskala, Ohio had to put up with not only the cold and rain but snow and sleet. Steve Schaeffer's GTO won the People's Choice Award. A "do over" show has been scheduled for Friday, June 3, 2022 when the weather will be a bit warmer and hopefully a bit dryer.

The weather did improve on Sunday. As a result, the Lancaster Car Scene Car Show held at the Outerbelt Brewery in Carroll, Ohio registered 100 cars. From what I understand, they weren't expecting that large a turnout. Our good friends, Dale Pearce and Tom Stewart, received Top 10 awards.

Special thanks to Jeff Shankle and Dale Pearce for help with the week's report.

NEWS AND NOTES:

There's a very good chance the weather in early April will be less than ideal for a car show or cruise-in. You even might have to dodge a few snow flakes.

Attendance turned out pretty good for the first weekend of April. The Rod Knockers Car Club out of Marion, Ohio registered about 50 cars for their first show of the season.

Sixty cars turned out for the first DJ Dick "Hot Dog" Ryman's cruise-in at the Heart of Ohio Antique Center just outside Springfield, Ohio.

And finally, there was a decent turn out Saturday morning for Columbus Cars and Coffee at the City Apartments.

Special thanks to Jeff Shankle for the photos.

NEWS AND NOTES:

Mike Gibson, a member of the Central Ohio Car show community, was laid to rest last week. Some of you will recognize Mike by his 1947 Buick Super Convertible.

I first met Mike at the 2017 West Jefferson Ox Roast Car Show where his Buick received the Best of Show Award. This was Mike's second or third show with the Buick following its restoration.

I always enjoyed speaking to Mike and his wife Sandy whenever I saw them at an event.

Several members of the community brought their rides to the funeral on Friday to pay their last respects to Mike. He will be very much missed.
