NEWS AND NOTES
Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
The Der Dutchman Cruise-In just can’t seem to catch a break with the weather this season. It’s either been a field too wet for cars, temperatures hotter than a pizza oven, or, in Thursday’s case, a monsoon.
The rain hit around 5:15 PM, and boy, did it come down hard.

Despite the wet forecast, 94 vehicles still showed up for the cruise-in before Mother Nature took over.
LeaveAMark Motor Sports Car & Motorcycle Show:
Leave A Mark Church in South Columbus hosted its second annual Motor Sports Car & Motorcycle Show on Friday evening. The event drew more than 95 registered cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

Along with the vehicles on display, the evening included a silent auction and 50/50 drawing, with hot dogs, chips, and water available for anyone looking for a bite to eat.
Awards were presented to the Top 10, along with Best Ford, Best Chevy, Best Mopar, Best Motorcycle, Best Truck, Pastor’s Choice, and Best of Show.

Here are the Top 10 winners:
The six Specialty winners:
The Best of Show honors went to Steve Kidwell and Nancy with and their 1954 Chevy Corvette.

It was a great evening with great cars and great friends. My only complaint was the number of lifted pickup trucks.

Apparently, I either need to grow another eight inches or start carrying a step ladder so I can photograph the window placards. 😁
Uptown Classic Auto Show:
On the second Friday of each month from May through September, the City of Marysville hosts Friday Nights Uptown, a family-friendly evening featuring food trucks, live music, and activities in Uptown Marysville. Traditionally, the final Friday Nights Uptown of the season also includes the Uptown Classics Auto Show.

Bryan Mauger made the trip to Marysville this past Friday and reported that 79 cars filled the streets of Uptown for this year’s show.
By Bryan’s account, the organizers and volunteers did a fantastic job. Everything from parking and check-in to the awards ceremony ran smoothly. Registration moved quickly, with a separate line for those who had pre-registered, and the awards ceremony started on time and was handled efficiently.
There was plenty happening besides the cars. Around 10 food trucks were on hand, The Groove Brothers Band provided the live music, and plenty of people made their way through Uptown to check out the cars and enjoy the evening.

The show presented Top 20 awards along with three specialty awards:
Best of Show: Jared Kortsen — 1970 Chevrolet Corvette
Cleanest Car: John and Carol Woods — 1958 Chevrolet Impala
Best Late Model: Randy Lyons — 2003 Chevrolet Corvette
Proceeds from the show benefited Main Street Marysville, a local nonprofit dedicated to preserving, promoting, and enhancing historic Uptown Marysville.
Beautiful cars, great music, plenty of food, and a well-organized group of volunteers made for a great final Friday Nights Uptown of the season.
Along with Bryan, Jeff Shankle and Tom Lawrence also attended Friday evening’s event. Between the three of them, they captured plenty of photos from around Uptown Marysville. Here’s a combined look at some of the cars that turned out for the evening.
Saturday Shows:
No surprise, the rain returned Saturday morning. It started around 8:30 AM and continued throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, resulting in multiple cancellations and postponements. For the shows that decided to stick with the schedule, the wet weather pretty much killed attendance.
The rain certainly took its toll on the Motts Military Museum Driving for Daisy Car Show, hosted by Auto Smarts Radio. Just 13 vehicles braved the weather and turned out for Saturday’s show.
Dale Pearce took home Best Truck, pretty much by default. His truck and the pickup Jim McGruder uses to haul all of his DJ equipment were the only two trucks in attendance. 😁

Steve Schaeffer received Best GM with his Pontiac GTO. With only 13 vehicles on hand, Boots decided not to award a Best of Show.
Saturday was the annual Der Dutchman Coffee and Donuts Cruise-In. I had every intention of going and enjoying my annual cream-filled Long John and a cup of coffee, but one look at the weather radar convinced me to stay home.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one. Wayne Nisly, who manages the cruise-ins, said just 13 people showed up. With the rain putting a damper on the cruise-in part of the morning, everyone gathered inside the barn, enjoyed some coffee and donuts, and spent the morning enjoying each other’s company.
The annual Lite the Nite Car Show in Newark managed to draw 209 entries despite Saturday’s wet weather. While that would be a great turnout for most shows, it was less than half of what Lite the Nite normally attracts.

Among the day’s award recipients was Dave O’Brien, who received the Jim Matheny Memorial Award with his 1970 Dodge Coronet 500. Congratulation, Dave!

The Hi-Way Starz Car Club had a large contingent that wasn’t about to let a little rain keep them away. Club members Jeff Tolley and Bubba Hettinger were among those who braved the weather and shared their photos from the show.
Gerald Wicker attended a soggy 15th Annual Son Shine Car Show hosted by the Marengo Christian Church and brought home a Top 20 Award with his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

All Ohio Ford Show 2026:
The United Ford Owners Ford Club hosted its 15th Annual Ohio Ford Show Sunday at Pastime Park in Plain City. This year’s show registered 55 Ford cars and trucks.
Trophies were presented in seven year-based classes ranging from 1900 through current models. In addition to the class awards, the show presented a Survivors Award and Best of Show.

Dustin Bowers picked up a Best in Class trophy with his 2008 Mustang GT/CS.

Jeff Shankle participated in Sunday’s show and shared these photos from the event.
Rodmasters Mill St Grains & Gatherings Car Show:
The Rodmasters Car Club held its Car Show Sunday at a new location the Mill St. Grains & Gatherings in Utica. The show registered 80 vehicles, and according to Dave Bratton, the Rodmasters’ years of experience hosting car shows were evident. Everything was well organized and ran on schedule.

The show handed out 59 trophies. Thirty were designated as Top 30 awards, while approximately 25 were recycled trophies from previous events.

The awards weren’t differentiated by placement; some winners received a Top 30 trophy while others went home with one of the recycled trophies. Dave noted that the recycled trophies were actually quite nice.
Despite handing out nearly 60 trophies, along with door prizes and the 50/50 drawing, the entire awards presentation took only about 45 minutes.
Among the specialty award winners were:
Westerville Auto Pick: Dan Varner — 1977 Malibu Wagon
Club Pick: Jack Huber — 1967 Chevelle
Watts Restaurant Pick: Steve & Nancy Kidwell — 1965 GTO
Best of Show: Mary Marti — 1956 Chevy Bel Air

The 2 PM start for the awards turned out to be especially good timing. Dave had been watching rain on the radar during his drive home and had barely gotten his car safely into the garage when Mother Nature struck again. About 20 minutes after he arrived home, the sky opened up.
Dave shared these photos from Sunday’s show.
Pony Wagon Days Car Show:
Kevin Foust attended the Pony Wagon Days Car Show in New Paris on Sunday, where 68 vehicles were registered.
What made this show a little different was the awards—or, more accurately, the lack of them. There were no trophies handed out. Instead, the winners went home with cash. While I’ve seen shows offer cash prizes along with trophies, it’s pretty unusual to find one where the awards consist entirely of cash payouts.
Keith and Karen Young received $100 for Best Classic with their 1937 Chevy Master Deluxe 2 Door Sedan.

Kevin had a particularly profitable afternoon with his 1941 Dodge WC 40 taking home $500 for Best of Show.

Thanks to the Street Elite Corvette Club, I'm going to wrap up this week's News and Notes with some photos from Sunday's Corvette Gathering XXI in Lancaster.

After a beautiful Friday evening, the rain returned and washed out much of Saturday. Fortunately, it stayed away long enough on Sunday to keep most events dry.
In my 15 years of attending car shows and cruise-ins, I don’t remember a wetter or more disruptive season. I guess all we can do at this point is blame the Super El Niño out in the Pacific for all this water. 😁
Hopefully, Mother Nature gives us a break as we head into the final weeks of the 2026 show season.
This week’s list of remote reporters includes Jeff Shankle, Bubba Hettinger, Dale Pearce, Bryan Mauger, Jeff Tolley, Dave Bratton, Tom Lawrence, Gerald Wicker, Tony Oliver, Wayne Nisly, Kevin Foust, and the Street Elite Corvette Club. A big thank you to all of you for contributing photos, videos, and information from the events you attended.
Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.
