As we head into the second to last week of October, the Central Ohio car and motorcycle season isn’t finished just yet. The schedule is definitely thinning out, especially during the week, as more of the regular weekly cruise-ins and bike nights wrap up for the year. Still, there are plenty of opportunities to get the car or bike out before the season comes to a close.

Saturday remains the busiest day with a dozen events on the schedule, including several Cars & Coffee gatherings, cruise-ins, shows, and a couple of Trunk or Treat events. Sunday adds another six events, with Halloween and Trunk or Treat themes becoming more prominent as we approach the end of the month. With November just around the corner, take advantage of these remaining October events while you can.

NEWS AND NOTES

Empty Pockets Trunk or Treat Car Show:

The Empty Pockets Cruisers Car Club hosted its annual Trunk or Treat Car Show at Hilliard Presbyterian Church in Hilliard on Saturday.

With temperatures in the mid-40s in the morning and barely breaking 50 degrees in the afternoon, this year’s show was a little more low-key than in years past. Attendance reached 77 vehicles by the close of registration, while the number of children trick-or-treating was about one-third of what the club normally sees.

If that wasn’t enough indication of how subdued things were, not a single adult entered the Best Costume competition this year. Fortunately, the kids came through, with plenty competing for Best Kids Costume.

This little bumblebee stole the show and was the crowd favorite.

The Club presented plaques to the Top 40 along with four Specialty Awards. The Specialty Awards included DJ's Choice, Sponsor's Choice, Empty Pockets Cruiser Choice, and Best Car Decoration.

As in past years, Jim McGruder served as the show’s DJ and selected Pete Lieb’s 1962 Dodge Dart Hemi station wagon for the DJ’s Choice award.

Sponsor's Choice went to Mark Evans with a 1969 Camaro SS.

Nick Barr's 1969 AMC Rebel received the Empty Pockets Cruisers Choice Award.

The Best Car Decoration went to Betty and Tom Lawrence with their 2008 Volkswagen Beetle. They also won the raffle for the 32" Visio Smart TV.

Here's a look at the rest of the cars from the show:

Southeast Conservation Club Car & Bike Show:

Originally scheduled for September 12, the Southeast Conservation Club in Grove City rescheduled its annual Car and Bike Show for this past Saturday, which, given the weather we had that weekend, probably comes as no surprise.

Doug Glassburn arrived at the show a little before 9 a.m. to an empty and rather chilly field. Fortunately, things picked up from there.

By the close of registration, the show had 47 entries, eight of which were motorcycles. All money raised from the event will go toward improvements to the club.

Doug’s 1972 Chevy C-10 Stepside pickup was selected Best of Show. Along with his Best of Show award, Doug received a pair of commemorative Route 66 coins celebrating the 100th anniversary of the historic highway.

Doug shared these photos of some of the other vehicles that were in attendance.

Cruisin' with the King:

The Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club held its final Cruisin’ with the King Car Show of the season on a chilly Saturday evening at Burger King in Marysville.

There were 54 cars in attendance for the final show. As always, the club presented award plaques to its 15 favorite—or, in this case, “Freaky 15”—registered vehicles.

Here's are two happy award winners.

Our good friend, Jeff Shankle was in attendance and as always shared these photos from the evening.

Car-Tober Fest Car Show:

The Lancaster Car Scene (LCS), in conjunction with Trident Customs, hosted the 6th Annual Car-Tober Fest Car Show at Braden Cadillac/GMC in Carroll on Sunday.

Registration was $20 and included one door prize ticket. There was also a 50/50 raffle, with proceeds from the show donated to the Lancaster Fire Department Toy Drive. Food and refreshments were available from the Da Que food truck, and I understand the brisket was very tasty.

This year’s show registered 86 vehicles. Awards were presented to the Top 50, along with Specialty Awards for Best Truck, Best Import, Best Rat Rod, Best Jeep, Best Decoration, Best Bike, Best Muscle, and Best of Show.

Here are the Specialty Award winners:

The Best of Show honors went to Steve and Angella Boyer's 1967 Chevy Camaro SS.

Congratulations to all of this year’s Car-Tober Fest award winners!

Here’s a video slideshow featuring more of the vehicles from Sunday’s Car-Tober Fest Car Show.

MRCBX Bike & Car Show:

Bryan Mauger attended the first MRCBX Bike and Car Show at the MRCBX shop in Granville on Sunday.

Father-and-son owners Jan (pronounced “Yahn”) and Robby Ringnalda, along with event organizer Christy, did a great job putting together the event, especially considering this was their first show. The shop was open for everyone to look around and featured an eclectic mix of motorcycles, cars, and even a few off-road vehicles. Some were for sale, while others were undergoing work at the shop.

There was no registration fee for participants and admission was also free for spectators. Two coffee and beverage trucks were on hand, but both scheduled food trucks canceled at the last minute. Rather than leave everyone hungry, MRCBX went out and bought Jersey Mike’s subs and handed them out for free. That was a very classy gesture by the shop.

The inaugural show attracted 40 cars and 25 motorcycles. Awards were determined entirely by fan voting. Everyone entering the show received two ballots—one for their favorite car and another for their favorite motorcycle—which were deposited in a ballot box at the registration table.

There were just two awards, Best Car and Best Bike, but each winner received a pretty cool trophy along with $250 in cash.

And Bryan didn’t just attend the show to take photos and send me a report. His 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was voted Best Car. Chris D’Andrea took home Best Bike with his 1976 Kawasaki ZK900.

Congratulations to Bryan and Chris!

Bryan shared these photos of the cars, bikes, and shop from Sunday’s show.

I asked Bryan if he was taking us all out to dinner with his winnings, but he gave me some excuse about his girlfriend wanting dinner. What a car buddy! 😀

Whitehall Founders Day Car, Truck & Bike Show:

Shaun “Big Dawg” Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were in Whitehall on Sunday helping host the First Annual Whitehall Historical Society Founders Day Car, Truck, and Bike Show.

The event took place at Whitehall Community Park on Hamilton Road. Along with the car show, there were food trucks, a beer garden, live music, and games for the kids.

There were 49 cars in attendance. Top 35 winners included Hi-Way Starz members Jeff Tolley, Dave O’Brien, and Bill Mason. Kevin Foust and Mark and Mary Lester also took home Top 35 awards. Mark and Mary even had a little fun in the photo booth during the Founders Day festivities.

Best Bike went to Kenny and Janie Jones with a custom airbrushed 2007 Harley-Davidson Road King.

Neal Thomas and his 1960 Chrysler 300F took home the Best of Show honors.

I’m going to wrap up this week’s News and Notes with some photos Anthony Musick shared from the Iconic Ohio Trunk or Treat meet held on Sunday.

About 70 vehicles turned out for the event, with the Mario-themed truck taking home Best Display. Anthony said it was a lot of fun, and judging from the photos, it certainly looks like everyone had a good time.

Thanks to Anthony for sharing the photos!

This week’s contributors to News and Notes include Jeff Shankle, Doug Glassburn, Bryan Mauger, Kevin Foust, Mark and Mary Lester, Anthony Musick, Scott Ferguson, and Trident Customs. A big thank you to everyone for all the reports and photos. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.
