NEWS AND NOTES

Ten shows from this past week are covered in this week's News and Notes. I spent a good bit of my weekend on Rt 33 between Columbus and Marysville.

Verena at Hilliard Celebrating America Event and Car Show:

The Verena at Hilliard 55+ Independent Senior Living Community held its Celebrating American Event and Invitational Car Show on Thursday.

Live entertainment was provided by the band Driving Guitars.

Along with providing dinner for everyone who participated in the car show, the Verena at Hilliard presented trophies for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cars as voted on by the residents.

3rd Place went to Steve Elam with his 2016 Chevy Colorado pickup and 1945 James military motorcycle.

The 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang of Tom Obert received the 2nd Place award.

For the second year in a row, Dale Pearce and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received the most votes. Some car owners have privately complained that the walker Dale places next to his truck gives him an unfair advantage regarding voting. 🤣

Arthritis Foundation 41st Charity Auto Show:

The big event this past weekend was the Arthritis Foundation 41st Charity Auto Show at the Metro Place in Dublin, Ohio.

The Friday open cruise-in registered 377 vehicles.

The evening's "live" music was provided by the band British Invasion.

At the end of the evening, six-foot trophies were presented to the Top 100 cars and trucks.

I was able to get photos of most of the Central Ohio cruisers who received one of the six-footers.

Not pictured:

  • Kevin Martin - 1962 Chevy Pickup
  • Andrew Van Ert -1968 Chevy Chevelle
  • Charlie Seymour - 1967 Chevy Nova SS
  • David Erickson - 1969 Plymouth Sport Fury & 1939 Plymouth P8 Coupe

If I missed anyone please let me know.

The class-judged show on Saturday had around 700 cars in attendance.

Here are some of the 1100 cars from both days of the show.

Robin Wahlenmaier had the little model car of her Chevelle she displays on the front of her car taken at the Arthritis show on Friday. The car has significant sentimental value. If anyone's child picked this car up please return it to Robin. You can reach her on Facebook. She will not ask any questions. She just wants it back.

Cruisin with the King in 2024:

The Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club held its July show at Burger King in Marysville, Ohio on Saturday evening.

This month the club registered 45 vehicles.

The club presented award plaques to its "Favorite 15" from the vehicles that registered.

Here are this month's "Favorites":

The Mid Ohio Cruisers will be back at Burger King for the August show on August 17th.

Groovy's Cruise-In/Car Show:

Groovy's Plant Ranch in Marengo, Ohio hosted a cruise-in/car show on Saturday. There were 83 cars in attendance.

There was no registration fee to participate in the cruise-in/car show. Groovy's gave out awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place vehicles. First place received a $200 gift card to Groovy's Plant Ranch.

Here are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners:

Purple Door Car Show:

The United Methodist Church in Grove City, Ohio hosted its 21st Annual Purple Door Car Show on Saturday.

This year's show registered 141 cars.

There were 100 trophies given out along with a six-foot Best of Show.

Kevin Foust's 1941 Dodge WC 40 Military Weapons Carrier received the Sponsors Choice Award.

Dan Varner's 1956 Chrysler Newport received the Original Survivor Trophy.

Best of Show went to David Anderson and his 1949 Supercharged Ford Tudor Custom Convertible.

Here are more cars from the Purple Door Car Show:

Crossroads Car, Truck, & Bike Show at Steak 'n Shake:

The Crossroads Event team hosted its monthly show at the Steak 'n Shake in Newark, Ohio on Saturday.

Everyone who participated in the show received a 40% discount at the restaurant.

The 1991 Chopt Chevy S10 of Justin S. received the Veterans Owned Vehicle Award.

The Best of Show award went to Tim Davidheiser with a 1948 International Harvester KB-1 pickup.

The Crossroads team will be back at Steak 'n Shake on August 17. Next weekend they will host shows on Saturday at Earthworks Cafe in Newark and Sunday at Air Force One in Dublin, Ohio.

Marysville Motorfest:

On Sunday, the Marysville Mustang Club hosted Marysville Motorfest at C&N Motor Cars in Marysville, Ohio.

The event had approximately 60 cars in attendance.

Inside the C&N Motor Cars building was a rare Ford GTX1.

For those unfamiliar with the GTX1, it is the roadster version of the first-generation Ford GT. It was created as a show car for the 2005 SEMA show. There was enough demand to produce it in limited numbers with Ford's full blessing and a factory warranty. Key features were the removal of the roof, a custom interior, and race seats. Only 40-50 units were built before production ceased in 2006. The cars are valued well over six figures.

Another rare vehicle showed up at the Motorfest before I left. This rare bird was a supercharged Honda Odyssey minivan. I guess you could say it was one of one. Talk about a sleeper.

Rams & Rhinos Charity Car & Bike Show:

The 3rd Annual Rams & Rhinos Charity Car & Bike Show took place on Sunday at Ramsey's Pizza & Pub in Marysville, Ohio.

Registration was $15 with all proceeds going to local non-profit organizations. There were door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. One of the door prizes was a bucket full of liquid one would only find for sale at a state store.

Live music throughout the afternoon was provided by the Dudley Creek Band.

The show registered 46 cars and bikes. Six awards were presented at the end of the show. The awards included Best Domestic, Best Import, Best Project, Best Bike, Ramsey's Pick, and Crowd Favorite "Man of the Match".

Here are the award-winning vehicles:

River Valley Athletic Boosters Car Show:

The River Valley Athletic Boosters held its annual fundraiser Car Show at the high school in Caledonia, Ohio on Sunday.

This year the show registered 240 vehicles and raised $19,261 for the Athletic Boosters.

There were 75 Sponsors Choice Awards and 10 "Specialty" Awards.

Our good friend, Chad Herrick, received one of the Sponsors Choice Awards for his 2018 Dodge Charger Daytona 392.

The Farthest Traveled Award went to Dennis from Maryland. He received a unique hand-crafted award from Mad River Mobile Welding made out of car parts.

There is no Best of Show Award per se, however, the big award from the show is the Doug Martin Memorial Award. This year it went to Bret Gilmore and his 1953 GMC Truck.

Here are more of the cool cars, trucks, and bikes from the River Valley Athletic Boosters Show:

Other Area Shows:

  • The 2nd Annual Bob Helsel Car Show in Thornville, Ohio registered 93 cars on Sunday. Mike Lingafelter took 2nd Place in the 2001 and Newer Category with his 2018 Chevy Camaro SS.
  • Mark Farmer was kind enough to send some info and photos from the Waldo Tire & Automotive Summer Festival Cruise-In in downtown Waldo, Ohio on Saturday. There were close to 300 cars in attendance. The event presented 30 plaques and some good vendor giveaways. Mark said it was a well-managed and organized event.
