NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Jackets and long pants were the required attire for the first Der Dutchman Cruise-In of the season in Plain City. Even with temperatures hovering in the 50s, it didn’t stop 232 cars — including 18 first-timers — from turning out for the season opener.

Wayne looked rested and ready for another fun-packed 2026 season, greeting attendees as the lot quickly filled with everything from classics and muscle cars to modern performance rides and trucks.

As always, the variety of vehicles on display was one of the highlights of the evening.

Carroll Lions Car Show:

With the help of Shaun “Big Dawg” Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers, the Carroll Lions hosted its annual downtown car show on Saturday. Proceeds from the event help support a variety of local Lions community projects.

After a slow start caused by morning rain and wet roads, the show eventually rebounded to register 54 vehicles. Attendees competed for Top 25 awards along with four sponsor trophies, a special auction trophy, and the coveted Best of Show award.

The Lions also sold event t-shirts that included a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of four buckets filled with car care products. The auction trophy drew plenty of interest, with the winning bid eventually reaching $70.

The four Sponsor Trophy winners were:

  • Astrografx: Dave & Jackie Hiles - 1973 Plymouth Duster/Twister
  • Auman Landscape: Mr Jimmy - 1986 Toyoto pickup
  • Carroll Cup Coffee House: Bill Justice - 1986 Porsche 944
  • 1BDCustomz Custom Trophies: Mike Woods -1966 Ford F100

The Best of Show honors went to Bret Ruff and his 1967 Chevy Camaro SS

Here are the rest of the cars that attended the show:

Fostering Further Car Show:

The fourth annual Fostering Further Car Show took place Saturday at the Newark F.O.E. 387 in Newark. The Fostering Further organization was created to help support healthy, supportive relationships between community members and those involved in Central Ohio foster care.

This year’s show registered 88 vehicles, with the Hi-Way Starz taking home the Largest Club Participation award. Club members Roy Frazier, Mike Marcum, Carrie Gleckler, Dave O’Brien, Jessica Ralston-Henry, and Jeff Tolley all earned awards during the event.

Bubba Hettinger and Jeff Tolley captured much of the action and many of the cool vehicles from the show in the following slideshow video.

Music To Our Ears Car Show:

The Elgin Music Boosters hosted its annual fundraising car show at the high school in Marion on Saturday afternoon. Dave Bratton attended the show and graciously sent the following report and photos.

Despite windy conditions, about 65 vehicles turned out for the event. The photos are of the more interesting rides that were in attendance.

The show featured several 50/50 raffles, including one called the “Chicken Poop” 50/50 — yes, really. There's a photo of the sign explaining the rules.

One of the more unique aspects of the show was the participant judging system. Instead of traditional paper ballots, attendees scanned a QR code with their phones that directed them to a dedicated website where they selected their top three two-wheeled entries and top three four-wheeled entries. The winners were then calculated directly through the website — a pretty nifty setup.

Top award winners included:

• Best 2 Wheels: Larry Austin — Harley 83 XD1000
• Best 4 Wheels: Mark Shepard — 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible
• Students Choice: Chuck Reegles — 1955 Ford Thunderbird

The show also featured a nice silent auction with around 30 items along with roughly 20 vendors selling automotive-related merchandise and other goods.

Spring Fling All Corvette Show:

The Chosen Few Vette Club held its annual Spring Fling All Corvette Show at Quaker Steak & Lube in Columbus on Saturday. Estimates placed attendance somewhere between 300 and 400 Corvettes, making for an impressive display of America’s sports car across multiple generations.

Awards were handed out to the Top 150 entries, although there was no formal Best of Show award. Dale Pearce received a Super Bowl-sized ring for his 1967 Corvette, while his daughter Jayliegh handled the 50/50 drawing duties and walked away with a medal and $10.

Here’s a video Dale put together showcasing some of the Corvettes that attended the event.

It’s a little shorter News and Notes this week thanks to the lighter Sunday schedule because of Mother’s Day.

This week’s shoutout for contributing photos, videos, and event coverage goes to Jeff Shankle, Jeff Tolley, Bubba Hettinger, Dale Pearce, and Dave Bratton. As always, their help covering events around Central Ohio is greatly appreciated.

Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.
