NEWS AND NOTES

Lots of sunshine and cool temperatures led to strong attendance at most car events this holiday weekend.

Cars 'N Condos:

A large crowd of participants and spectators turned out Saturday morning for Cars ’N Condos at Horsepower Farms garage condos in Powell, Ohio.

Dan “Boots” Longenette and Auto Smarts Radio broadcast their Saturday morning show live from the Horsepower Farms clubhouse.

Some of the resident garages and car collections are impressive.

Here’s a sampling of the many cars that made it out to Cars ’N Condos:

Memorial Day Car Show Honoring our Veterans:

On Saturday, the Memorial Day Car Show Honoring Our Veterans took place at 1600 Long Street in Columbus, Ohio. Space was limited, so parking spots were preassigned, and preregistration was required to display a car. As a result, only 20 to 25 cars were in attendance, which included some of the best vehicles in the city.

Dr. Ron Rogers received the People's Choice and Second Place Awards for his 1968 Dodge Charger.

Dale Pearce's 1967 Corvette Stingray took home the First Place Award and Veterans Pick.

Best of Show went to Fred Williams and his 1969 Ford Mustang 5.0 Coyote.

Mershon's Classic Cruise-In:

Mershon’s World of Cars in Springfield, Ohio, hosted a cruise-in Saturday evening—and according to Jeff Shankle, the place was packed!

Check out this video slideshow featuring some awesome photos from the event, taken by Tom Lawrence and Jeff Shankle.

Revive Baptist Church Car & Bike Show:

The Revive Baptist Church in London, Ohio hosted its second annual Car and Bike Show on Sunday.

The show featured 27 cars and 11 motorcycles in attendance.

Judging was conducted through People’s Choice voting. There were a total of five awards, which included:

  • Best Bike
  • Best Car Pre 1949,
  • Best Car 1950 - 1969,
  • Best Car 1970 - 1989
  • Best Car 1990 - Present.

Door prizes consisted of car care products and tools. Winners were drawn from the registration forms.

Here are the award winning cars and bike.

Revved Up Fun Car Show @ O'Reilly's:

Revved Up Fun Events held its second car show of the season this Sunday at the O’Reilly Auto Parts on Harrisburg Pike in Columbus, Ohio.

A total of 52 cars were registered, and 20 unique “Nice Ride” trophies were handed out, along with a Best of Show award.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the Best of Show winner. If you know who received BOS, please share it in the comments.

Here are some of the cars featured at the show:

New Straitsville Moonshine Festival Car Show:

The City of New Straitsville, Ohio, held its 54th Moonshine Festival this past weekend.

A car show is part of the Sunday festivities. This year, the show registered 61 vehicles.

Dave Hiles and Lynn Raduege received the Queen's Choice Award.

Best of Show honors went to Steve Kidwell and Nancy for their 1938 Chevy Business Coupe.

Ye Olde Mill Rod Run & Picnic:

The Newark Rodders Car Club hosted the 54th Ye Olde Mill Rod Run and Picnic at the Velvet Ice Cream Ye Olde Mill in Utica, Ohio, on Sunday.

As I mentioned in last week's post, if the weather is nice, you can expect a big turn out. Attendance this year was well over 300 cars.

The Newark Rodders presented 40 awards. There was no Best of Show.

Springfield Swap Meet and Car Show:

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Springfield Swap Meet and Car Show that took place on Friday and Saturday at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ohio.

Rumor has it the car corral was packed with cars for sale.

Jeff Shankle was there both days and took over 500 photos! If you’d like to browse Jeff’s photos, here are the links (a Facebook account is required).

Friday:

Saturday:

Mt Victory Car Show and Petroliana Swap Meet:

The Memorial Day Antique Car Show & Petroliana Swap Meet in Mount Victory, Ohio, is a cherished annual tradition that brings together classic car enthusiasts, collectors, and families for a day of nostalgia and community spirit. Held each year on Memorial Day, the show takes place along Taylor Street in Downtown Mt. Victory. This is a non-judged car show but does offer the option to register to enter a grand prize drawing.

By noon, the show had registered 168 cars, with at least another 100 cars in attendance that were not registered.

Every year, the show features an impressive array of antique and classic vehicles, along with a few unique and unusual ones. There's also displays of gas, oil, and automotive memorabilia available for show and sale. It’s well worth the drive to Mt. Victory on Memorial Day if you’ve never been.

This video slideshow captures the essence of the show.

Rogers Garage Memorial Day Car Show:

Rogers Garage in Johnstown, Ohio, hosted its annual Memorial Day Car Show on Monday. This family-friendly event showcased an impressive lineup of classic cars, hot rods, muscle machines, and modern marvels.

Highlights included:

  • Dozens of vintage and custom cars on display
  • Live music and food trucks
  • Raffles, giveaways, and contests
  • Kids’ zone with activities for the little ones

Once again, the turnout for this year’s event was huge.

This slideshow features photos taken by Bryan Mauger and Jeff Tolley at the show.

Lithopolis Memorial Day Car Show:

Hosted by the C-Town Cruisers, the annual Memorial Day Car Show in downtown Lithopolis, Ohio, took place on Monday.

The show featured approximately 130 cars, with both sides of the downtown street lined with vehicles.

Awards were presented to the Top 40 entries, along with special honors including the Firemen’s Choice, C-Town Cruisers Pick, and Best of Show.

The Best of Show Award went to the 1960 Ford Edsel Ranger owned by Shawn Kellner.

This concludes this week’s News and Notes.

There were other shows in the area this past weekend that weren’t reported on. If you attended any of them or have information to share, please feel free to post in the comments.

Here’s an interesting tidbit to leave you with: the Car Shows and Cruise-Ins Facebook Group reached a milestone this week — 100,000 members! Here’s a breakdown of participants by city. It just confirms what I’ve always believed: Central Ohio is the car-craziest area in the state by a wide margin.

Special thanks to Dale Pearce, Jeff Tolley, Dave Bratton, Jeff Shankle, Tom Lawrence, Bryan Mauger, Lynn Raduege, Dr. Ron Rogers, and Shaun Sanders for contributing their photos and write-ups for this report.

Until next week, stay safe out there.

      Hi Chris,

Thanks for the offer. I'm pretty much done with this week's report and ready to move on to next week. I generally need photos from an event to include in the weekly report by Sunday evening or early Monday morning. After saying that, I would be interested in a photo of the BOS winning car if you have that.
