NEWS AND NOTES
Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
What a difference 10 degrees can make. With Thursday evening temperatures in the mid-80s instead of the mid-90s, attendance jumped from 162 vehicles last week to 295 this week. Even with the cooler weather, people were still looking for any patch of shade they could find—even if it was next to a porta-potty.

As always, the variety of vehicles on display was outstanding. From a Ford GT to an Ineos Grenadier powered by a 3.0-liter BMW engine, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Here are the combined photos from Jeff Shankle, Tom Lawrence, and me from the evening.
Picktown Palooza Car, Truck, & Bike Show:
Even with Goodguys being the main attraction this weekend, there were still plenty of car and motorcycle events taking place around Central Ohio. One of those was the Picktown Palooza Car, Truck & Bike Show, part of the annual Pickerington Picktown Palooza Festival. Hosted by the Rusty Lug Nutz, the show was held in the parking lot at Pickerington Central High School.

There were 95 full-size vehicles in attendance. Add in the 10 pedal cars, and the total came to 105 entries.

The show featured impressive 3-foot trophies for the Top 30, along with 10 Special Awards: Best Chevy, Best Ford, Best Motorcycle, Best Mopar, Best Truck, Best 2000 & Newer, Best Project, Sponsor’s Choice, and Best of Show. The pedal cars also had two awards of their own.

Jim McGruder served as the DJ and once again did an outstanding job spinning the tunes and keeping everyone informed with announcements throughout the day.
The trophy for the Pedal Car Champion was just about as tall as the young winner.

Here are the cars and motorcycles that received the Special Awards.
Hi-Way Starz members hauling home some hardware.

The show's Top Award went to Ted Tickle's 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7.

After last Saturday’s excitement at the American Legion Fourth of July Car Show, it was a little anticlimactic when this week’s show got underway without a parade of police cruisers rushing into the parking lot. Fortunately, the arrival of an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser added just enough excitement to keep the streak alive.

Congratulations to the Rusty Lug Nutz for putting together a very good car show. Now if they could have just controlled the rain, it would have been just about perfect.
Goodguys All American Sunday:
After fighting scattered showers on Friday and Saturday, the skies finally cleared for Goodguys All American Sunday, presented by Meguiar’s.

For those not familiar with All American Sunday, any American-made or American-powered vehicle, regardless of model year, is eligible to enter the show. However, to be judged for one of the seven All American Sunday Awards, the vehicle must be model year 2000 or newer.
The awards include All American Chevy, All American Ford, All American Truck, All American Mopar, and three All American Sunday Picks.
Central Ohio cruisers were well represented among this year’s winners. Jim McGruder’s 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray received the All American Chevy Award.

Arch Mayer’s 2003 Ford Mustang GT earned the All American Ford Pick. (Arch Mayer joked it’s really his wife’s car!)

The All American Truck Pick went to Tony Leming’s 2022 Ford F-150. The distinctive mosaic pattern covering the sides and rear of the truck is made up of hundreds of individual pieces of vinyl representing Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), a condition Tony lives with. Each piece was added by spectators and fellow participants at car shows, making the truck a unique rolling tribute to the support of the automotive community.

Dave Bishop’s 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT was selected as the All American Mopar pick.

Finally, yours truly’s 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing was honored with one of the coveted All American Sunday Picks.

Other area winners included William Brown, whose 1979 Ford Mustang Pace Car received the Ford Fox Body Pick. This marks the third time William’s Mustang has earned that award.

Joel Charriel’s 1993 Mazda RX-7 received the Import Madness Pick.

Kurt Finton’s 1937 Studebaker, powered by a Hellcat engine, was named one of the 2026 Street Rod of the Year Top 10.

Our good friend Chris Kramer received a Goodguys Staff Pick for his 1970 Ford Torino GT.

Rounding out the local winners, Dennis Bleile’s 1929 Ford Model A with its stunning custom paint job was selected for the Traditional Homebuilt Heaven Pick.

Here are some of the other Central Ohio cruisers who had their vehicles on display Sunday:
One of the advantages of attending Goodguys on Sunday is that the crowds are a little lighter, but all of the award-winning vehicles are still on display awaiting the afternoon awards ceremony. Here are some of the outstanding builds that received the show’s top honors.
Another Goodguys Summit Nationals is in the books, and other than the weather, it did not disappoint. I heard the southern end of the Expo Center was still a little dusty, but the areas north of the Celeste Center were in much better shape this year than they were last year. Let’s hope all of the construction is finally finished by next year.
There continues to be some inconsistency among the Goodguys staff regarding which model years are eligible for judging on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Bryan Mauger emailed Goodguys to ask about All American Sunday judging and was told that vehicles of any model year could be judged if the owner requested it. However, when I spoke with one of the judges on Sunday, he told me only model year 2000 and newer vehicles were eligible for judging. That actually makes sense, since 1999-and-older vehicles can be judged on Friday and Saturday, while 2000-and-newer vehicles are only eligible to compete on Sunday.
This was my fourth Goodguys All American Sunday in the past seven years, and I would have to rank it as my favorite. I think sharing the experience—and winning awards—with your friends adds a little something extra to the day.

Cruise-in at the Yacht Club:
The Buckeye Lake Yacht Club hosted its annual car show on Sunday.

By all estimates, this year’s event attracted well over 100 vehicles, with some estimating the final count between 125 and 150. The show filled the paved parking lot, the gravel lot, and all available grass parking. Fifteen members of the Hi-Way Starz Car Club were in attendance.
Despite the hot weather, the show featured Captain’s Hats for the Top 25, along with several special awards. Dewayne Cobb’s 1970 Chevrolet Camaro received the People’s Choice Award, while Greg Howard’s 1933 Essex earned the Judges’ Choice Award. Chuck Herr’s 1965 Porsche 356 SC was selected for the Commodore’s Choice Award.
The Best of Show Award went to Fred Williams and his outstanding 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. Here’s a photo of Fred’s award-winning Mustang taken at Goodguys in 2024.

A big thank you to Dave Bratton for providing the report and photos, and to Jeff Tolley for also sharing his photos from the show.
I want to thank everyone who tagged me on Facebook and sent me photos from Goodguys. Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to go through all of them—especially on a big weekend like this past one. I’ll even admit that by 9:00 p.m. Sunday, I’m starting to run out of steam.
Jeff Shankle posted photos from all three days of Goodguys. If you’re interested in seeing even more vehicles from the event and have a Facebook account, be sure to check out Jeff's Facebook page.
I’m going to finish this week’s report with an award I’m calling the “Tough Guy…or Maybe Just Plain Stubborn” Award.
It goes to Bobby Wong, who recently slipped on wet grass and broke his leg. Despite the injury, he was determined enough to make the drive all the way from Cincinnati to Pickerington by himself to participate in the Picktown Palooza Car, Truck & Bike Show.
Whether you call it dedication or just plain stubbornness, I think it deserves a little recognition. Congratulations, Bobby!

This week’s roaming reporters for CarShowTalk.com include Jeff Shankle, Jeff Tolley, Dave Bratton, Arch Mayer, Phil Spangler, Bobby Wong, and Kevin Foust. A BIG thanks to everyone who submitted photos, results, and event information this week. Your contributions help tell the story of Central Ohio’s automotive community and make News & Notes possible.
Have a great week, stay safe and keep those wheels rolling.
