NEWS AND NOTES
Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
Attendance was down just a touch from last week, but the 263 cars that rolled into Thursday evening’s cruise-in still brought plenty of variety and energy. Among them were 7 first-timers.
One of my favorite moments was having a 1959 Porsche park right next to my 2024 Porsche — a striking side-by-side of classic curves and modern lines.

Pete Lieb pulled in with his beautifully kept 1962 Dodge Dart station wagon, a time capsule on wheels.

And while there were plenty of head-turners, my pick for “most unique” of the night went to a 1995 Toyota Supra — a rare sight and a true crowd-stopper.
From vintage gems to modern marvels, it was another Thursday evening well spent with fellow car enthusiasts.
Uptown Classics Auto Show:
The Friday Night Uptown Founders Car Show returned to Marysville, Ohio on Friday evening under a new name — the Uptown Classics Auto Show. Registrations were open to vehicles 2001 and older.

Main Street was packed with people, making it difficult to move from one end to the other.
The awards ceremony wrapped up earlier than scheduled, with Best of Show going to Jeff Irwin for his 1963 Corvette Grand Sport.

No official car count was announced, but the turnout appeared to be around 100 cars.
A big thanks to Dave Bratton for his report and photos from the show.
The Charlie Baker Mound City Under the Lights Car Show:
The Mound City Little League field in Newark, Ohio, was the site of the Charlie Baker Mound City Under the Lights Car Show on Friday evening. The event drew about 70 cars.
Hi-Way Starz members Mike Marcum, Joe Estes, Justin Seymour, Dave O’Brien, and Bobby Pig all drove home with awards, while Jeff Tolley’s 1959 Chevy Biscayne earned the coveted Ed’s Sleds Pick.

Battle of the Bands Car Show:
The Franklin Heights High School Band Boosters, led by booster members Jim McGruder and his wife, Dormee’, hosted the Battle of the Bands Car Show at the high school on Saturday. Jim not only helped organize the event but also served as DJ, keeping the music and energy going throughout the day.
Show participants enjoyed door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and plenty of food and refreshment from vendors. With temperatures climbing above 90 degrees, the boosters also sold water to help keep everyone cool and hydrated.

A total of 61 cars registered for the show. At the conclusion, awards were handed out to the Top 40 cars, along with 26 specialty awards, including the coveted Best of Show.

Adding to the lively atmosphere, the Franklin Heights High School Bands performed two live sets during the afternoon, blending music, cars, and community spirit into a fun-filled day.

Here are the cars and owners that received a "Specialty" award.
The Best of Show award went to Craig Grunkenmeyer for his stunning black 1969 Chevy Corvette.

The Battle of the Bands Car Show proved to be a fun and successful event, bringing together great cars, lively music, and community spirit on a hot summer afternoon.
Logan Elm Music Boosters Car, Truck, Motorcycle & Jeep Show:
Saturday seemed to be the day to support high school music programs. Thirty-five miles south of Franklin Heights High School, the Logan Elm Music Boosters hosted their Car, Truck, Motorcycle, and Jeep Show in Circleville, Ohio. Proceeds from the show benefited the school’s music programs.
Registration was $15 for adults and $5 for students with a valid ID. The show drew 82 vehicles. Unique custom trophies were presented to the Top 50 entries, along with five Specialty Awards, including 2nd Place Best of Show and Best of Show. The top honors stood out with trophies marked by the numbers “1” and “2,” creatively crafted from chain links.

It was a well-supported community event that blended a love of cars with a passion for music education.
Doug Glassburn was on hand with his camera, capturing some of the standout rides from the show.
Doug Mullens and Dave Hiles took home Top 50 Awards for their Corvette and Plymouth Duster.

Best of Show went to our good friend, Russ Annis, and his 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS. The trophy was so heavy, Russ discovered that even a muscle car owner sometimes needs a little muscle… and a chair to put it on!

Canaan Land Church Car Show:
Shaun "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were in Grove City Saturday helping the Canaan Land Church host its annual Car Show.
Beards, shades, and trophies—Jeff Tolley and Dave O’Brien looked like they scored “Best Cool Factor,” but in reality they were both Top 30 winners.

Jeff Tolley also captured a great selection of other cars from the show.
Cruisin with the King Car Show:
The Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club returned to the Burger King in Marysville, Ohio, Saturday evening for their August car show.
This month’s meet drew about 50 cars, filling the lot with a mix of classics and crowd favorites. Among the “Favorite 15” winners were Kelly Roberts, Dave Lamb, and Frank Sanborn, who each took home well-deserved recognition.
A special thanks goes out to Marty Ruiz for capturing and sharing photos from the evening.
Powell Cruize-In & Pig-Out 2025:
The Powell/DT Sertoma Club hosted the 17th Annual Powell Cruize-In & Pig-Out Car Show on Sunday in downtown Powell, Ohio. Proceeds from the event benefit the Powell-Liberty Historical Society, the Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center, and the Powell Sertoma Club.

This year’s show drew approximately 136 registered vehicles. Larry Coolidge, who has spearheaded the event since its beginning, was unable to oversee the show this year due to serious health issues and is currently in rehabilitation. Larry traditionally handled ordering the award plaques, but with his absence that task wasn’t reassigned. As a result, no plaques were presented this year—only the 11 Specialty Awards and the Best of Show trophies were handed out.

Here are this year’s Specialty Award winners:
Best of Show – 1995 Ford Mustang GT owned by Tom Perevosnik, who drove in from Parma, Ohio and headed home the same day—proving his Mustang is no trailer queen.

In the end, the Powell Cruize-In & Pig-Out kept its tradition alive, supporting local causes and honoring the spirit Larry Coolidge helped create.
Igniters Rod Run & Car Show:
The Igniters Car Club of Chillicothe, Ohio, hosted its 45th Annual Rod Run & Car Show at Yoctanghee Park on Sunday, drawing the largest crowd of any Central Ohio car event this past weekend with 309 official entries.

Awards ranged from Best of Class and Top 50 to Specialty Trophies and the coveted Jim Bucy Memorial Award.

To keep the excitement rolling, attendees could jump into a variety of fun games and activities throughout the day.

Doug Glassburn made the trip to Chillicothe and captured some fantastic shots. It’s always a treat to see cars from outside the area—Dragon Slayer Z06 Corvettes aren’t exactly common around Columbus!

Here are more highlights from Doug’s coverage of the show.
Old School Car Show:
The next stop on this week’s report is the Old School Car Show in Fredericktown, Ohio, on Sunday, where a strong turnout of 204 vehicles filled the show field.
The Hi-Way Starz Car Club was well represented with eight members participating. Jeff Grindrod brought home some hardware, earning 3rd place in the Ford division with his Thunderbird.

A big thanks goes out once again to Robert “Bubba” Hettinger for capturing and sharing photos from the event.
Other Area Shows:
- Best of Show at the Knights of Columbus Council 11187 ‘Knight Cruise’ in Pickerington, Ohio, on Sunday went to Dr. Ron Rogers with his Chevy Chevelle.

That’s a wrap on this week’s shows—another round of great cars, great people, and plenty of trophies.
This week’s events had a little something for every car fan.
Contributors this week include Dale Pearce, Jeff Shankle, Robert "Bubba" Hettinger, Doug Glassburn, Dave Bratton, Russ Annis, Marty Ruiz, Jeff Tolley, Lynn Raduege, Phil Monroe, Dr Ron Rogers, and Frank Sanborn. A big thank you to each of them for their contributions!
Stay safe, stay cool, and keep those wheels rolling!
