Upcoming Central Ohio Car Events (May 16 – 17)

Here's the list of car events for this weekend in Central Ohio.

I reached out to the Mid Ohio and C-Town Cruisers regarding the status of their events. I haven't heard anything back from either club as of this posting. I did hear it from a friend who heard from another friend that the Mid Ohio Cruisers were planning to have another cruise this month instead of a show. I don't have any info on the cruise other then it will take place Saturday evening (Click the Mid Ohio Cruisers link below for cruise info).

UPDATE: The C-Town Cruiser events for this weekend have been canceled.

I contacted the folks at Geer Gas on Monday. Their show is still on for Saturday but it will be a food drive car show. They are sending me a new flyer on Tuesday. UPDATE: The Geer Gas show has been rescheduled to May 23.

In a sign that things may be getting back to some semblance of normal, online registration for the 38th Annual Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show in Dublin, Ohio is now open. Click Here to pre-register your vehicles.

And finally, check out the Save the Dates for 2020 page for an up-to-date list of cancellations, postponements, and rescheduled events. I'm updating this page almost daily.

In case anybody is interested.....I have emailed the Governor's office, The Ohio Dept. of Health, and Fox 28 news. My email talked about how the antique/classic car hobby is very active in the State of Ohio, and how we effect the economy. We are proud of our vehicles, we love to drive them , show them, etc. Also, how we purchase gasoline, parts, food at restaurants before a show, food at a show, and how most places give the left over proceeds to charities. You see where I am going with this.

I got a " form " email from the Governor office, nothing back from Health Dept, or Fox28.

I see now where swimming pools are open. Great, so we can go sit in a cesspool with others, and God knows what diseases they have, but we can't go to a car show, park every other car apart, wear masks, keep our distance, etc. Makes NO sense whatsoever !!!

Drive in movie theaters are open now also. Car shows are so similar as far as being outside and doing the same things they do to keep safe. This whole thing is so stupid my head is ready to explode. I don't want to stir up a hornets nest, but good grief, doesn't anybody in Government have a lick of common sense ???

I know we are ALL frustrated.......what else can we do ?? Thank you.

Clement, I understand your pain. My daughter is a self-employed hairstylist. Until yesterday, she had been without any income since March 18. I emailed the governor several weeks ago. In the email, I discussed her plight and how she was unable to get any unemployment benefits because of being self-employed. I also received a "Form" email probably similar to yours.

I'm just as frustrated as you and so are most car show enthusiasts. Until the governor eases the restriction of no more than 10 people per gathering, I think we're going to see more shows canceled. As I've mentioned previously, organizers don't want the liability. Especially if their event exceeds the 10 person limit. I keep hoping by mid-July the rate of infection slows enough that some shows and cruise-ins will return. I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime, I'm getting lazy and fat without anything to do.

Wow ! Hope she gets back on track soon. That's crazy. Imagine that, getting a form letter back. LOL

I know we are all frustrated. What doesn't make sense to me is, what is their definition of a " gathering " . Drive in movie theaters could be considered that, yet they are open. Guess it's all open to interpretation.

I hope you are right, and things can get back to normal soon. Sad to see Urbana cancelled their July 4th show...was really looking forward to that. Thanks for the response, Kim. You take care, and hope to see you and everybody soon !!

No question the government's definition of essential and non-essential has been pretty inconsistent.

Some of the photos I've seen from these cruises going on haven't shown much in the way of social distancing. It looks to me like everyone drives around for a little bit and then goes and hangs out in a parking lot the rest of the time. Cars are parked right next to each other. No one is wearing a mask and staying 6 ft away from the other person. I'd be more inclined to participate if I was confident everyone would follow the recommended guidelines. I'm sure the reason some of these shows are being canceled is that it's too difficult to ensure any sort of social distancing. No one wants their show to be a vector for the spread of the virus. And I don't blame them.
