Saturday evening the Mid Ohio Cruisers hosted their April Cruisin' with the King at the Marysville, Ohio Burger King.
A steady Northeast wind quickly turned fairly comfortable temperatures at the start of the show into an April chill by the end. It got cold enough to break out the gloves. A number of participants couldn't take it and left early. Fortunately, the club recognized the uncomfortable conditions and presented the awards 30 minutes early so everyone could go home and warm up.
A total of 50 cars registered for this month's show. Per usual, a fair number of cars showed up but didn't register. I'm always a little puzzled by this since registration is free.
Along with free registration, the show offers door prizes, 50/50 raffle and 10 "Favorite" awards.
The Mid Ohio Cruisers kicked off the 2018 car show season on Saturday with their annual Snow Ball Cruise-In at the Burger King restaurant in Marysville, Ohio.
Much better weather last year saw 20 vehicles show up for the cruise-in. Snow fall earlier in the week made road conditions for this year's cruise-in less than ideal and forced many to keep their cars in winter hibernation. Only nine vehicles, mostly rat rods, braved the messy roads and registered for the show.
Despite the road conditions, the Snow Ball Cruise-In provided an excellent opportunity for a mid- winter "get together". The Burger King dining area was packed wall to wall with car enthusiasts. The crowd had good representation from the Rod Knockers Club of Marion, Ohio and the Vintage Auto Club of Delaware, Ohio.
Door prizes and a 50/50 raffle were offered along with trophies for three "Favorite" vehicles selected by the members of the Mid Ohio Cruisers.
Here are this year's trophies winners:
The Mid Ohio Cruisers will begin their monthly cruise-in schedule for 2018 on April 21. For those of you who may not know, the cruise-ins are held on the third Saturday of the month from 6-9 PM, April through October at the Marysville, Ohio Burger King. Registration is free and open to all makes, models and years. So mark your calendars, it's a great way to spend a Saturday evening.
Editors Note: I was unable to attend this year's cruise-in due to a death in the family. A special shout out goes to my good friends Jeff Shankle and Frank Sanborn for their on-site reporting in my absence.
As I wrote in last week's Upcoming Events post, my goal this past weekend was to participate in four events. With rain showers cancelling the Der Dutchman cruise-in on Thursday evening, that left three shows in three days to do! Here's the big report I promised from those shows.
FRIDAY NIGHTS UPTOWN
After attending the first two Jack Maxton Friday Night Cruisin', I decided to change things up this month and attend the final Marysville Friday Nights Uptown.
The Friday Nights Uptown is a monthly community block party put on by the city of Marysville from May through August. The August event has traditionally included a car show organized by the Mid-Ohio Cruisers car club.
I estimated a crowd of well over 1000
people attended the event Friday evening.
Along with the cars, there were 11 food trucks to satisfy everyone's culinary tastes, bounce houses for the kids, and live entertainment from the band Wille Phoenix and the Soul
With a $10 registration fee, the car show registered 72 automobiles. There were no door prizes, however, the show did have a 50/50 raffle.
One of the first things I noticed about this show were number of vehicles I was seeing for the first time this summer.
The Mid Ohio Cruisers held their April cruise-in Saturday evening.
For those of you who don't know, the club hosts a cruise-in the third Saturday of the month from April through October at the Burger King in Marysville, Ohio. They also put on a "Snow Ball" Cruise-in the third Saturday in January for those of us that need a "car show fix" in the dead of winter.
The monthly cruise-ins feature door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and music from the 50's and 60's. Ten awards are presented to the favorite cars and trucks picked by the club members. Best of all, there is no charge for registration. Read more
The Mid Ohio Cruisers will be holding their annual Snow Ball Cruise-in at the Marysville Burger King located at US 33/36 this Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 2-4 pm.
Saturday's forecast is calling for cloudy skies with highs in the upper 50's. The unusually balmy weather should bring out a few more cars than normal for this event.
I've been to multiple monthly cruise-ins hosted by the Mid Ohio Cruisers, however, this will be my first snow ball cruise-in. If it holds true to the monthly shows, there will be music from the 50's and 60's, door prizes, 50/50 drawing and 10 awards. Registration is free.
Dress warm and expect a crowded dining area. Hope to see you Saturday.
