Here are the car events for the first week and weekend of July. Even though there is no Champaign Cruisers Firecracker or Union County Fairground shows this year, there are still plenty of events scheduled for July 4th.

Last week there were several last-minute cancellations and location changes. I try to update the list as soon as I know about any changes, however, it's always a good idea to contact the organizers to confirm the event is still on before heading out.

News and Notes:

The second week of the Der Dutchman Cruise-In turned out to be a big one. More than 200 cars showed up for what turned out to be a beautiful Thursday evening weather-wise. Starting this week, I believe the restaurant is going to start selling ice cream and soft drinks at the cruise-in.

The inaugural Grace Chapel Wednesday Night Cruise-in attracted about 20 cars. Just like the Hilton Cruise-In last year, it was after 6 pm when the majority of cars arrived. Chad Schirtziner is working to get a food truck on the premises each week.

Two big events, Cruise the Ville and Vettes, Rods, And Classics at Creekside, were canceled last week. Fortunately, there were twice as many new events anounced. To see the most complete list of future Central Ohio shows and cruise-in, logon to the Save the Dates for 2020 page.

BREAKING NEWS: Dan "Boots" Longenette and Pepsi's Auto Smarts Radio have released their 2020 Cruise and Ride schedule. I will be adding these events to the Save the Dates page.

Here are the car events this week in Central Ohio. Saturday is jam-packed with events from morning to night. Of course, the big event on the schedule is the three days Springfield Swap Meet and Car Show.

News and Notes:

Those that attended the first Der Dutchman Cruise-In of the year on Thursday evening got a little wet. While everything and everybody was still dry, Marty Ruiz managed to get in some photos from the cruise-in.

On Saturday, I stopped by the Ninja Express Car Wash Cruise-In during the afternoon and the Delaware Cruise Night that evening. Both events had good turnouts. Here's a sampling of some of the cars that made it out to each event.

This year's Grace Chapel Car Show in Westerville, Ohio registered 94 cars on Saturday. This was the best-attended show the church has ever hosted.

Best of Show went to the 1957 Ford Thunderbird belonging to Rich Robbins. Henry Ours with a 1940 Ford Panel Delivery truck received the Pastors Choice.

On a related note, Chad Schirtzinger who was the driving force behind the Hilton Polaris Tuesday Night Cruise-Ins last year has received permission from the Pastor at Grace Chapel to hold a weekly cruise-in at the church. The first cruise-in will be this Wednesday (6/24) starting at 5 PM.

For the first time this year, more events were added to the Save the Dates for 2020 page than were canceled. Check out the page for an up-to-date list of upcoming events.

BREAKING NEWS: It was just posted that the Vettes, Rods & Classics show at Creekside in Gahanna, Ohio slated for August 1st has been canceled this year. This show has been rated as one of the top car events in Central Ohio for the last three years. What a bummer!

For the first time this season, there's a Central Ohio car event every day of the week. As per usual, the events could change as we get closer to the weekend.

This week will see the return of the Der Dutchman cruise-ins. Since this will be a special kickoff to the cruise-ins, Wayne Nisly is asking everyone interesting in attending to RSVP via email to wayne@wnisly.com.

News and Notes:

There is positive news regarding the 38th Annual Classic Auto Show and Cruise-In scheduled for August 20-22 in Dublin, Ohio. Last week the Dublin City Council approved all permit requests along with doubling their grant to help procure PPE and market the event. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the show is a GO!

Creative Towing and the Advanced Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio hosted their third show of the season on Friday. With picture-perfect weather, the show had a good turn out with 47 registered cars. Over $500 was raised to help with medical expenses for Jeff Shankle's business partner. CLICK HERE, for photos from the show and this month's award winners.

On Sunday, Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted a show at the VFW Post 8794 in Whitehall, Ohio. The event registered 139 vehicles. Best of Show honors went to Pam Shankle with a 1936 Plymouth Business Coupe.

We should learn the fate of the Goodguys PPG Nationals this week. A decision as to whether or not the event will take place as scheduled will be made no later than June 17 according to the GoodGuys website.

UPDATE: It's official. The Goodguys PPG Nationals has been canceled for 2020. https://ohioexpocenter.com/event/goodguys-18th-ppg-hot-rod-custom-car-nationals/

The Save the Dates for 2020 page underwent a major clean up this week. ALL the canceled events have been removed. This should make it easier to find shows and cruise-ins still on the schedule as the page was becoming a sea of red cancellations.

When I posted last week's list of events, there wasn't much on the schedule at the start of the week. By the end of the week, however, two events had been canceled and five new events added. I think this is going to be the norm for the rest of the season so check back often, especially towards the end of the week.

News and Notes:

BREAKING NEWS: I Just received messages from two readers that there will be NO Jack Maxton Friday Night Cruise-Ins this year. Word has it the dealership will be under new ownership soon.

The one and only cruise I've done so far this year is the Senior Celebration Street Cruise and Great Garage Door Contest in Obetz. The purpose of the cruise was to honor the Senior Graduates of Hamilton Township High School and the senior citizens of Obetz. It was an interesting cruise in that it offered awards for Best Paint, Most Unique, Best Modern, Best Classic, Best Overall, and Best Motorcycle as voted on by the spectators along the cruise route. There was also a participation award advertised for all those that registered for the cruise.

My car wasn't selected for any of the special awards, however, I did receive a $25 BP gas card in the mail this week for participating in the cruise. Not bad for a 45 minutes drive around Obetz!

The beautiful weather this weekend, especially on Sunday, made it all but impossible to shelter at home.

Two car meets on Sunday, one at the Target store in Powell, Ohio, and the other at the Coldstone Creamery on Polaris Parkway in Columbus, took advantage of the nice weather to attract more than 130 cars. I stopped by both meets to take photos and reconnect with friends.

After a two month absence, Dick "Hot Dog" Ryman and the Heart of Ohio Antique Center in Springfield, Ohio held it's first cruise-in of the year. With 148 vehicles in attendance, the cruise-in has the distinction of being the biggest event so far in Central Ohio.

Cars & Coffee: After shutting down for twelve weeks due to the coronavirus, Columbus Cars and Coffee at Lennox Town Center is considering starting back up this weekend. Nothing has been officially set in stone so stay tuned. The other Columbus Cars and Coffee has the Esoteric Open house on its schedule. I spoke with a team member from Esoteric on Monday and they're still undecided about hosting the event this Saturday. I hope to post updates on both events later in the week.

Der Dutchman Plain City: Just received a text from Wayne Nisly Monday evening. He's got approval to start the Der Dutchman cruise-ins on June 18. Yippee!

A few more events were added to the Save the Dates for 2020 page this week. The most notable of these is the Empty Pockets Cruisers Armed Forces Day show. The show has been rescheduled for August 8. Unfortunately, there were also some cancellations. This page is still updated pretty much daily so check-in often.

Not much on the agenda for this coming weekend. Most everything has been canceled. I've reached out to both the RoundTown Cruisers and Boy Scout Troop 382 to confirm the status of their events. As of this posting, neither organization has gotten back to me.

UPDATE: Contacted the president of the Roundtown Cruisers. Their cruise-in for this Friday has been canceled.

News and Notes:

This past weekend saw the return of a couple of "traditional" car events. I stopped by the Marysville Car Meet on Sunday. I estimate somewhere between 150 and 200 vehicles showed up during the afternoon. Here are some of the photos I took at the meet.

Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted their first show of the season at the Point On Main Street Sports Bar & Grill. The show registered 78 cars, however, more than 100 cars turned out for the event. Best of Show went to Steve Beal and his 1951 Chevy Suburban.

On the way home from Marysville, I happened to drive by some members of the AMMO (All Modern Mopars of Ohio) who were having a "mini cruise-in" at the LaScala Restaurant on 161. The club members had just finished participating in a graduation cruise. I took a few minutes to stop and introduce myself.

Goodguy PPG Nations: With the 2020 Ohio State Fair officially canceled, I called Goodguys last week for an update on the status of the PPG Nationals. The woman I spoke to stated that as of this time the event is still on. She said contractually the Ohio Expo Center must give Goodguys 30 days notice if they cannot host the event at the Fairgrounds. I was told to check back again around June 10th for a more definitive answer on the status of the event.

A few events were added this week to the Save the Dates for 2020 page. Check out this page for an updated list of future events, cancellations, and postponements.
