The weather these first two weeks of May hasn't been very kind to car shows and cruise-ins. As I reported last week, the weather for the inaugural Ruby Tuesday's cruise-in was cold and rainy. The May cruise-in of the Vintage Auto Club of Delaware was washed out last Friday because of rain. My plan to attend the Rod Knocker's cruise-in on Saturday was cancelled due to pockets of rain and hail between my house and Marion.
The start of this week didn't see any better weather. Scattered showers around 4 pm on Tuesday kept cars away for the second week at Ruby Tuesday's cruise-in.
Thursday evening saw a little better weather for the Summer Cruise Night at Wholly Joe's Chicago Eatery on East Powell Rd in Lewis Center, Ohio.
Close to 20 cars turned out for this week's event, which is held every Thursday from 6-9 pm, May 4 through September 28.
The cruise-in is only open to cars and trucks 25 years old and older (no 4x4's or motorcycles).
Even though I don't own a car 25 years old, I still decided to pay a visit to Wholly Joe's and experience the cruise-in as a spectator.
Parking for the participants is "coned off" along the side and rear of the restaurant. It was more than adequate for the 20 vehicles that turned out this evening, but could be tight if more were to show up.
There are no door prizes or 50/50 drawings, and I don't believe a food discount is offered at the restaurant for cruise-in participants. It's strictly a gathering for car enthusiasts who enjoy talking about and showing off their cars. It's a relaxed atmosphere, and great opportunity to meet new friends.
If you're looking from something to do on a Thursday evening, and you own a classic car or have an interest in classic cars, checkout the Summer Cruise Night at Wholly Joe's.
Here are some of the cars from tonight's cruise-in.
ON TAP FOR THIS WEEKEND
The Chosen Few Vette Club will be holding their Spring Fling All Corvette Show on Saturday (5/13) at the Quaker Steak and Lube on Polaris Parkway.
Saturday will also see the 1st Annual UA Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association car show at the Kingsdale Center in Upper Arlington, OH.
If you can convince the moms in your life that you must go to a car show on Sunday, The Cruis'in for the Blue show will be going on at the Firestone Service Center at Great Southern Shopping Center.
Until next time, I hope to see everyone out there cruising.
