Cruisin’ with Auto Smarts and The King

The Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride 2017 Tour made a stop on Saturday at Cruisin Classics Auto Sales for their 11th show of the season.

Despite the extremely warm temperatures, 76 vehicles turned out for the show.

Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smarts team in conjunction with Crusin Classics raised more than a $1000 for the USO. Great job!

The show presented the opportunity to see some cars I haven't seen this year.  A prime example is Benny Hall's 1952 Chevy Deluxe.

Here are some other examples.

This 1970 Nova owned by Bob Conrad was a real beauty.

This photo reminded me of the song Ebony and Ivory.

The "Best of Show" award went to Phil Traylor and his 1934 Cabriolet.

CRUISIN' WITH THE KING 2017

Saturday evening I made the drive to Marysville, Ohio for the June cruise-in hosted by the Mid Ohio Cruisers at the Burger King on Delaware Avenue.

Construction of a car wash along with the west side of the restaurant reduced cruise-in parking by more than half, and forced parking the overflow on the street behind the restaurant.

I have to hand it to the club,  they did a great job of managing the parking.

Despite the reduced parking and warm temps, the cruise-in registered 71 cars and trucks. The total reached well over 80 with club members and unregistered vehicles.

I got my first opportunity to see a Mustang Shelby GT 350 in person.
The exhaust sound of that flat plane crank engine is awfully sweet!

A couple of cars I was surprised to see at the cruise-in were this 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo and a new Acura NSX.

This Nissan with bright gold wheels made a pass around the restaurant. I was skeptical about the claim made by its license plate.

As always, the cruise-in attracts a nice mix of "classic" cars from around the area.

Along with door prizes and a 50/50 raffle, the Mid Ohio Cruisers pick 10 favorite vehicles each month to receive a trophy. This month the trophies went to:

  • Tom Payne and his 1968 Ford Mustang
  • Jim and Lisa Crist with a 1972 Chevy Vega GT
  • Steve Maddox with a 1967 Ford Mustang GT
  • Dave Whitline and his 1967 Pontiac GTO
  • Dan Bailes with a 1969 Dodge Dart
  • Larry Darnell and his 1976 Ford Grand Torina (Starsky and Hutch)
  • Gile Myers with a 1968 Pontiac Firebird
  • Amy Rosepilar with a 1965 Cobra kit car
  • James Graham and his 1963 Chevy SS
  • Ben Leware with a 1950 custom Chevy flatbed pickup

I always have a good time at the Burger King cruise-ins and this evening was no exception. I'm already looking forward to the one next month.
