NEWS AND NOTES

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:

Attendance this week was quite a contrast from the previous week. Only 147 cars turned out. I think the weather forecast kept a lot of folks home. It called all day for a 40% chance of rain around 6 PM. The rain did eventually come, but it was well after the cruise-in was over. Wayne drew the raffle tickets early so everyone could get home before the rain.

Market District Grandview Yard Giant Eagle POP-UP Car Show:

The Giant Eagle in the Market District in Grandview, Ohio was the site of a pop-up car show on Friday evening hosted by Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers.

Awards were presented to the "Top 25" cars plus Best of Show.

The Best of Show award went to David Elliott and his 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

Cruisin' With the Mayor:

Cruisin' with the Mayor was another show that took place on Friday evening in West Jefferson, Ohio.

The show registered 66 cars. There were four awards, Mayor's Choice, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place. All the winners received plaques and gift cards to Flyers Pizza.

The Mayor's Choice went to Eric and Beth Vacheresse and their 1969 F100 Ford Ranger.

First Place went to Mike Sullivan and his 1953 International R-132.

Second place went to a 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Sorry, I don't have the owner's name.

Our good friend, Russ Annis, picked up the Third Place award with his 1967 Chevy Chevelle SS.

Commercial Point Homecoming & Fish Fry Car and Bike Show:

The Commercial Point, Ohio Men's Club set an attendance record on Saturday with 175 registered cars. Add in the cars that didn't register and attendance was well over 200 cars.

Three-foot trophies for the "Top 25" attracted a lot of really nice vehicles.

My only complaint with the show was the 35 minutes I stood in line to register. That process really needs to be streamlined for next year. Although in all fairness, I don't think the Men's Club expected that many cars.

Everyone that registered a car received a sheet of paper with the list of criteria used for judging. Vehicle cleanliness and presentation were two of the top criteria. To get the best score, the hoods had to be open and if the vehicle had a trunk it also had to be open.

Here are the top award winners:

TOP BIKE: 2011 Harley Davidson Street Glide - Owner: Jay Bethel
TOP TRUCK: 1946 Chevy Pickup - Owner: Kevin Marshall

MEN'S CLUB CHOICE: 1946 Ford Coupe - Owner: Bob Kirst

The BEST OF SHOW award went to Kevin Foust and his 1941 Dodge WC40 Military Pickup

Here are some of the other beautiful rides that attended the show:

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Car Show:

The Mountain View Christian Church in Upper Arlington, Ohio held a car show on Saturday to help raise money for a hurricane relief mission to Puerto Rico.

The show registered 57 cars. There were 16 Sponsor's Choice awards. The door prizes were awarded after the trophy presentation and after many of the participants had already left.

Here are some of the cars from the show.

Leon's Garage Dad's Day Car Show:

Leon's Garage in Marysville, Ohio hosted its first-ever Dad's Day Car Show on Sunday.

Parking was limited so pre-registration was requested by the restaurant. As it turned out, there were a few spaces available at the start of the show so some cars were able to register the day of.

The band Radio City played classic rock music on the patio during the afternoon.

There were games and kids' activities. And of course, food and beverages could be purchased from the restaurant.

The total number of registered cars reached 37. The show presented awards to the "Top Five" cars along with a Best of Show.

Here are the "Top Five" winners:

James Elsmore took home the Best of Show honors with his absolutely pristine 1964 Plymouth Belvedere Station Wagon.

Auto Smarts Cruise & Ride at Moose Lodge 1427:

Dan "Boots" Longenette and the Auto Smarts Radio Team were at Moose Lodge 1427 in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday hosting a car show to raise money for Honor Flight. A 91-year-old Korean War Veteran spoke to the crowd about how much it meant to him to have gone on an Honor Flight.

The show registered 57 cars.

Boots' Pick went to Dan Varner and his 1963 1/2 Mercury Marauder Fastback S-55.

Craig Grunkemeyer's 1969 Chevy Corvette received the Best of Show honors.

Dave Bratton was kind enough to share the photos he took from the show. Here's a slideshow of his photos. Pay close attention, you just may see your car.

Other Area Shows:

  • David Fravel and his 1963 Chevy Impala SS received the Best of Show award at the Outerbelt Brewery Father's Day Car Show in Carroll, Ohio on Sunday.
  • Farrow Harley-Davidson in Sunbury, Ohio had another big turnout for its Hod Rod and Handlebars Show on Saturday evening.

Thanks to Dave Bratton, Anthony Musick, Craig Grunkemeyer, Arch Mayer, and Russ Annis, for contributing to this week's report.

I hope everyone has a great week.
