NEWS AND NOTES
I'm starting off this week's News and Notes with a "Better Late than Never" entry.
Last Sunday Brett Gearhart was kind enough to send me information on the Battle of the Brands Car Show that took place on Saturday (July 29) in Sunbury, Ohio. Unfortunately, I didn't see Brett's email until Wednesday so it missed last week's News and Notes. Oops!
Without further ado, here's the scoop on the show.
There were a total of 109 cars registered. Brett Gearhart's 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS received the Best of Show award.
Congrats to Brett and mea culpa for not seeing his email on Sunday.

Der Dutchman Cruise-In:
Attendance jumped back into the three hundred (303 to be exact) this past Thursday at the Der Dutchman Cruise-In in Plain City, Ohio.
The rocking chair and die-cast cars Wayne received as birthday gifts last week were on display in the barn.

Downtown Delaware First Friday Cruise-In:
Twenty-nine cars participated in the First Friday Cruise-In in downtown Delaware, Ohio on Friday evening.

The highlight of the cruise-in was a rare sighting of Dan Varner's 1991 Camaro Z/28 1LE with only 4800 miles on the odometer. In my opinion, it's one of the best if not THE best car in Dan's "Survivor" collection.

Richwood Bank Coffee and Cars Cruise-In:
The Delaware, Ohio branch of the Richwood Bank hosted its monthly Coffee and Cars Cruise-in on Saturday morning. There were 30-plus cars in attendance.

The volunteers working the coffee bar inside the bank offered a treat called a "Buckeye" to everyone that brought a car. I have no idea what was in the treat. The concoction definitely had peanut butter and chocolate in it. Whatever the ingredients, it tasted awfully darn good!
At the end of the cruise-in, the bank raffled off four door prizes. The top prize was a bucket of car care products along with a fifth of Henry McKenna's bourbon whiskey. The winner cannot only clean their vehicle but have a good time doing it.

Vettes, Rods, & Classics Charity Car Show:

The Capital City Corvette Club hosted its 21st Annual Vettes, Rods, & Classics car show on Saturday. The show is always held on the first Saturday in August unless rained out. The location is the Creekside district in Gahanna, Ohio, a wonderful venue for a car show.

All proceeds from the show go to benefit Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Live entertainment was once again provided by the band Reelin' in the Years.

The club presented more than 80 awards at the end of the show. The unique thing about Vettes, Rods, & Classics is awards are presented for both the Rods/Classics and the Corvettes. There was an assortment of "Specialty" awards and Best of Show winners for each category.
This year the show registered a total of 247 cars.
Here is the list of "Specialty" Award winners:
The Best of Show for the Rods & Classics went to Antoine Davis and his 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The 1963 split-window Chevy Corvette belonging to Melody Thomas took home the Best of Show honors for the Vettes.

Here's a sampling of cars that participated in the Vettes, Rods, & Classics Charity Car Show:
Vineyard East Car, Truck, and Bike Show:
The Crossroads Events team was in Pickerington, Ohio on Saturday hosting the Vineyard Columbus East Campus Car, Truck, and Bike Show.
Thirty-Five awards were presented at the end of the show.
The Larry Bickers Daily Driver Award went to Bob Salters with a 2014 Chevy Camaro LS2.

The "Spotlight" car of the show was a 1981 Pontiac Trans Am belonging to David Grove.

Bill McCulloch and his 1937 International D-2 pickup took home the Best of Show award.

Commercial Point Karting Classic Car, Truck, Jeep & Bike Show:
The 6th Annual Commercial Point Karting Classic Car, Truck, Jeep, & Bike Show took place Saturday evening in downtown Commercial Point, Ohio.
Issues with insurance eliminated the Go Kart racing through the streets of Commercial Point this year. There was, however, a free concert from the band McGuffey Lane.
The show registered 126 vehicles. Awards were presented after the McGuffey Lane concert which ended around 9 PM.
Chad Herrick's 2018 Dodge Charger Daytona 392 received a "Premium Choice" award.

Dave and Jackie Hiles' 1962 Dodge D100 pickup received the Best Truck award. Kenny G's 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat received one of the three 2001 to Present awards.

The Best of Show award went to Ron Leibrock and his 1969 Restomod Camaro SS.

The Point on Main Bar & Grill Car Show:
Shaun "Big Dawg" Sanders and the C-Town Cruisers were at the Point on Main Street Bar & Grill on Sunday hosting its August show.

Mark Mitchell organized a get-together of members from the ssrFanatic.com forum for Sunday's show. In all, 19 members showed up with their Chevy SSR. Some traveled from as far as Tennessee and Pennsylvania to attend.

The threat of rain didn't deter 81 cars from registering. Awards were presented to the "Top 30" plus a Ladies Choice, Rat Rod/Mopo (most potential), and Best of Show.
Jeanne Whitling and her 2015 RHD Jeep Wrangler (aka Cookie Monster) received the Ladies Choice Award. Jeanne drove her Jeep all the way from Pennsylvania to participate in the show. The C-Town Cruisers seem to be getting quite the national attention.

The Best Rat Rod/Mopo award went to the 1974 Chevy Camaro Z/28 belonging to Blake Lipkey.

Eddie Smith's 1974 Plymouth Road Runner received the Best of Show honors.

Eldorado's Food & Spirits Car, Truck, & Bike Show:
Frank Russell and the Crossroads Events team literally traveled across town on Sunday to host the monthly car show at Eldorado's Food & Spirits located at the corner of Morse Road and High Street.
The Crossroads team presented 30 awards.
The Larry Bickers Daily Driver award went to Shannon Williams and his 1956 Buick Super all original.

The show's "Spotlight" car was the 2020 Ford Mustang GT belonging to Anthony Green.

Best of Show honors went to Sophie Patch and her 1929 Ford Model A. Sophie also received the Mayor's Choice award at the Vettes, Rods, & Classics Charity Car Show the day before.

Other Area Shows:
- On Friday evening the Hosanna Lutheran Church in Pataskala, Ohio registered just under 100 cars for its annual car show. Jesse Bickell with a 1947 DeSoto received the Best of Show award.
- The Rhythm & Rib Fest Cruise-In in downtown London, Ohio on Saturday evening had about 75 cars in attendance.

- On Sunday, Dick "Hot Dog" Ryman was back at the Heart of Ohio Antique Center in Springfield, Ohio spinning the tunes and passing out wooden nickels at its monthly cruise-in. There were just under 60 cars in attendance.
