Central Ohio Car News and Notes for November 8 – 14, 2021

If you're coming here for a list of car events still on the schedule for November, the only thing remaining is the Ohio Ford Expo SuperSwap in Columbus on November 27 and 28.

Columbus Cars and Coffee will continue to hold Saturday morning meet-ups throughout the winter at the parking lot of The City apartments weather permitting.

NEWS AND NOTES:

I participated in two car shows this week to finish out my season.

American Legion Southway Post 144 Veterans Day Cruise-in:

On Thursday, Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers hosted their Veterans Day Cruise-In at the American Legion Southway Post 144 on South High Street in Columbus, Ohio. For the C-Town Cruisers, this was their last show of the year.

The American Legion Southway Post provided a bean dinner free to all the veterans. Those that weren't veterans could enjoy the meal by making a donation.

The show registered 50 cars. Awards were presented to the top 30 cars along with a Cry Baby award and Best of Show.

The Cry Baby award went to No One Cares! The Best of Show award went to Carol Benson with a 1977 Pontiac GT. Many of you may recognize Carol by her 1963 Chevy C10 Pickup. Another beautiful vehicle that receives a lot of attention.

Big Dawg passed out the awards early so everyone could get on their way before the rain started.

Creative Automotive Group/Advanced Auto Parts:

Jeff Shankle's Creative Automotive Group and the Advanced Auto Parts store in Marysville, Ohio held their final show of the season on Friday evening.

The wheelbarrow fire pit has become a tradition for the final show. Once again it was forced into action Friday evening. To say it was cold is a bit of an understatement. You could describe the 12 folks that brought their vehicles to the show as either dedicated car show enthusiasts or just plain nuts! Both descriptions are very fitting.

The show raised $145 for the local food pantries. In all, the monthly Creative Automotive/Advanced Auto Parts shows raised more than $1400 this year for the food pantries in Marysville and Milford Center. A big thanks to everyone that participated!

The manager's three favorite picks this month went to Haley Benjamin with a 2016 Camaro SS convertible, Tom Stewart with a 1982 Chevy C10 pickup, and Tony Kristoff with a 1970 El Camino SS.

Ron Smith picked up the Cruiser of the Year award and yours truly received the Runner-Up Cruiser award. Ron attended all nine monthly shows. I made it to all but the first two shows when I was in Florida.

Jeff is looking at a bigger place for the shows next year and also partnering with Auto Smarts and the C-Town Cruisers for a couple of events in 2022. Stay tuned...

Cruising for Carter Benefit Car Show:

Several Rusty Lug Nutz members braved the cold weather and drove over to Cambridge, Ohio on Saturday to participate in the Cruising for Carter Benefit Car Show. The show was held at the Deerassic Park Education Center in Cambridge.

Seven-year-old Carter Campbell was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in the spring of 2020. After a year in remission, his cancer has returned. All proceeds from the show went to support the Carter family.

Our good friend, Dale Pearce, and his 1950 Chevy 3100 pickup received Carter's Crew's Best in Show pick. Carter's pick was a 1929 rat rod.

One of the great things about the car show community is the willingness to give of their time to help others in need.

This is it for weekly reports until next year. I will be posting a 2021 season wrap-up next week so stay tuned for that.

I think that is well deserved. You're going to have to start prepping that Corvette for it's trip soon as well...lucky dog!

7 Weeks from tomorrow we're on the road to the Florida. Corvette is going to be picked up Jan 3rd. If all goes well, I should be driving it with the top down by Jan 5.

Thanks for all the great reporting and pictures this year, Kim !! Have a safe Winter. BTW, did you talk to anyone that went to Cars and Parts Saturday, Nov. 13th ? I didn't go. Did anybody on this site go and would care to comment ? Thanks !!

Hi Clement, Thanks for the kind words about the side. I plan to post a review of 2021 next week. That will be my last post until next year unless there is something major to report.

When you say Cars and Parts are you talking about the Springfield Swap meet? If so, Jeff Shankle went on Saturday. He posted photos on his Facebook page. Doesn't look like there were more than 25 cars at the show because of the weather.

You are welcome. Ok, looking forward to that. Yes, Springfield. Ok, thanks. I figured it was going to be a really slim turnout. Too cold and windy for me, unfortunately. Hated to not go, but my common sense kicked in . LOL

  4. Dale Pearce

Thanks Kim for all the hard work and kindness you put into this . Really love reading your comments and thoughts. Keep up the awesome job. Happy Holidays to you and yours. "Ole Blue"

Thanks, Dale! I appreciate all your help this season. I couldn't have done it without your photos and reporting from the shows I didn't attend.
