C-Town Cruisers Celebrate Independence​ Day with Cars, Potluck, and Custom Trophies

The C-Town Cruisers hosted their annual Independence Day car show on Thursday at the American Legion Southway Post 144 in Columbus, Ohio.

The past two years I've driven to Skelly Lumber in Urbana, Ohio to participate in the Champaign Cruisers Car Club annual Firecracker Car, Truck and Bike show. This year, however, I decided to stay a little closer to home.

It also helped my decision about which show to do that the C-Town Cruisers planned to present awards between 2:30 - 3:00 PM. All the other shows advertised awards at 5:00 PM. The thoughts of spending all afternoon in July's heat and humidity did not have much of an appeal to me.

The show registered a total of 36 vehicles. I figured the number would be closer to 50 cars based on the Veterans Day show last November. I guess heat and humidity are a bigger deterrent to car show participation than cold and salt.

Inside, members of American Legion Post 144 put together a very nice potluck for the cruisers. Cost was based on whatever you felt like donating. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta and potato salad, chips, and plenty of deserts.

Just like the Veterans Day show, the C-Town Cruisers created custom trophies to celebrate our great country's birthday. The trophies included 25 "Favorite" and a "Best of Cruise".

The Best of Cruise award went to Carol Benson and her 1963 Chevy C10 pickup

Two very interesting cars showed up shortly before the awards presentation. One was a fairly rare Chevy 409 Impala and the other a Chevy Chevelle with a LS2 motor out of a Corvette. Not sure what the situation was for their appearance at the end of the show, but it made Big Dawg come over and take a look.

Despite the heat and humidity, there are not many betters ways to celebrate Independence Day other than with cars, a potluck, and custom trophies.

Firecracker 4th of July Car, Truck & Bike Show

The Champaign Cruisers Annual Firecracker 4th of July show at Skelly's Lumbar Yard in Urbana, Ohio registered 514 vehicles. This is up from the 472 from last year but nowhere close to the record 640 that registered in in 2017.
